To eat cake batter

I'm considering making a cake for the primary aim of eating some mixture - I am alone for the week and I need something sweet without going outside.
Cake mixture is the best bit anyway.
I just googled a recipe for edible cake batter and it suggests you shouldn't eat regular batter - not only because of the eggs, but also bacteria in the flour....
Has anyone heard this?

Same here. Best bit IMO. I know it's not good for you, I mean it's got fat, sugar and raw eggs but it's soo tasty.

I rarely bake though because I've got too much of a sweet tooth and too little willpower, for both raw and cooked cakes.

I took up baking during lockdown and have decided that raw cake batter is definitely my favourite food.

I don’t even have a sweet tooth, but usually don’t eat before I bake, so by the time I’m baking, I’m totally ravenous.

It’s just amazing.

Absolutely love raw cake mix. Yanbu. Go for it.

By the time my cake is ready, I’ve usually eaten so much of the raw mixture I can barely manage any.
But of course I put in a good effort regardless.

Watching my two year discover the joy of cake batter has been one of the best things about all this lockdown baking.

The only thing better than raw cake batter is when you have undercooked the cake so much it collapses within minuites of taking it out of the oven. The warm, liquidy, half cooked batter from the middle is the food of the gods!
Unfortunately the kids have caught onto the fact raw cake and biscuits are better than cooked ones, and I need to fight them to lick the bowl these days.

Ditto! In fact I may even once or twice have just eaten the batter without baking a cake!

I used to love it as a child but put off these days from eating raw egg.

Eaten it for going on 40 years now and never been ill and will never stop. Absolutely love it!

Raw cake batter, raw pastry, raw scones all are delicious. 😋

God yes, it tastes better than cake.

I made cookie dough butter cream once to use in cupcakes. It was nice but very sickly. But was basically like eating a cupcake topped with raw cookie dough.

My local cake shop makes it with baked flour. in a little pot. So good
And puts chocolate chips etc in it

I've never tried uncooked cake mix! Always told it was a no no because of the eggs and even as an adult never dared to try it! Feel like I'm mising out now

This was one of our treats as kids. My mum would holler that she was making a chocolate cake and that meant if we sat at the table we would be given a bowl of raw cake mixture each , it was heaven and she rarely baked one I'm nearly 60 and no harm done.

Licking the bowl is better than the cake 😍

I think licking the bowl is different to eating a whole cake's worth of batter!

I ate it as a child, although in later years I was told that the weevils in the flour, if eaten, can affect the brain and lead to delusions of grandure - but I can't really believe that is true.

I do it every time I make a cake. I let DS(2) lick the bowl too. We’re yet to die.

I have been known to make cake batter and eat it rather than cooking it. It really is better than the cake 😂😂

And FWIW I use our back garden chicken eggs most of the time, not vaccinated lion-stamped shop eggs.

Raw cake batter tastes better than the finished article! Didn't we all fight over who got to lick the bowl when we were kids?!
