I would say the binge drinking culture of the UK

OP posts:
WitchenKitch · 25/08/2020 22:21

"What culture?"

  • New Zealand
CottonEyeJo · 25/08/2020 22:22

The entitlement in the UK

Anordinarymum · 25/08/2020 22:26

@CottonEyeJo

The entitlement in the UK
of what/whom
Mwnci123 · 25/08/2020 22:27

I feel like the UK is bad for littering compared to other places I've been.

Also wearing shoes in the house.

Bellebelle · 25/08/2020 22:27

Already knew that I was going to say the drinking culture before I saw you’d started with that OP.

SuddenArborealStop · 25/08/2020 22:29

The begrudgery - ireland

Pepperwort · 25/08/2020 22:30

Class system, total lack of comprehension from the better off and the mutual antagonism

Pimmsypimms · 25/08/2020 22:33

Teen vandalism. You can't seem to walk past a bus stop without the glass smashed or cigarette burns in the plastic seats.
We lived in Australia for 5 years and frequently used the bbqs in the parks and on the beaches.
I always thought that these wouldn't last 5 minutes in the UK as they would have been vandalised. sad but true Sad

WorraLiberty · 25/08/2020 22:34

I think the binge drinking culture has calmed right down over the years, compared to a lot of other countries.

Not sure I really hate anything cultural about England really. I hate lot of behaviour but it's not necessarily cultural.

Mwnci123 · 25/08/2020 22:36

I agree Pimmsypimms, and I think the vandalism, littering, and dog shit everywhere are part of a general lack of respect for communal spaces that is very depressing.

Mummadeeze · 25/08/2020 22:37

I think it would be good if being self deprecating wasn’t considered so much better than being proud of your achievements in the UK.

thebear1 · 25/08/2020 22:38

Binge drinking, especially when we take it abroad with us.

IncandescentSilver · 25/08/2020 22:39

Scotland - the lack of general fitness in the general population.

  • not a great attitude towards academia at times.
  • political views tend towards one party state and state control of your everyday life and challenge to that can be a bad thing
Bellebelle · 25/08/2020 22:40

@WorraLiberty I think you might be correct about binge drinking, seems to be more awareness about the damage it can do. However for me it’s more about how so many social occasions are centred around drinking, you’re seen as weird if you don’t drink alcohol/don’t want more than one glass of wine etc.

EssentialHummus · 25/08/2020 22:40

The equation of money (or sometimes class) with moral and other superiority, and the consequent acceptance of gross inequality.

Iamthewombat · 25/08/2020 22:41

Whinging.

(Yes, I am British)

Inching · 25/08/2020 22:41

I kind of enjoy the begrudgery and Bono-bashing, @SuddenArborealStop. Grin

Cronyism.

SuddenArborealStop · 25/08/2020 22:44

Bono-bashing is a necessity, FF cronyism, they couldn't hide it for any amount of time Angry

WorraLiberty · 25/08/2020 22:44

Oh yes, I hate that.

People feeling as though they have to make excuses because they're not drinking and people being made to feel they're 'boring' for not partaking.

But in general, I think the 'booze culture' isn't something young people are particularly a part of nowadays. Most (that I know and see) prefer to smoke weed.

WorraLiberty · 25/08/2020 22:46

Having said that, the booze culture is still quite huge amongst Eastern Europeans in my area but again, more the over 30s.

GisAFag · 25/08/2020 22:51

I hate that the English can't be patriotic/proud without being called racist. But other nations can.. Its so bloody annoying.

Rhynswynd · 25/08/2020 22:53

Australia
The blatant racism towards every race apart from white, but especially to Indigenous Australians.

tacoxx · 25/08/2020 22:55

The arrogance of some brits, eg expecting everyone to speak English and not bothering to try speaking local language when abroad

CorianderLord · 25/08/2020 22:59

xenophobia in the UK.

1Morewineplease · 25/08/2020 23:05

I don’t get how brits abroad feel that “foreign food” is ‘ muck’ and that hotels and complexes abroad should sell fried fish/ burgers/pizzas and chips and breakfasts should be full English.

Also don’t get why cyclists need to wear an armour of Lycra but on the continent, people just get on a bike.
