We seem to have adopted a degree of the US phenomenon of "My ignorance is as valid as your fact/science/knowledge"
There's an underclass in Scotland that seem to take pride in being ill-educated, idle, troublesome, and a bloody scourge to other folk who have to try and get on with their lives in the same vicinity as them. It's nothing new, but I think it's growing extra dimensions thanks to Social Media, Celeb culture, the preponderance of exceptionally financially well off people that still identify with that underclass, footballers, their wives and girlfriends etc, so I think there's even less incentive for certain demographics to actually attempt to achieve anything because they see people like themselves who have become wealthy through nothing more than a quirk of physiological accident, or getting lucky and infamous because of reality TV etc.
It saddens me to think that there's a whole generation of children who are growing up wanting to be famous, not in the same manner as their predecessors who may have dreamed of being pop singers, footballers, actors etc, but they're growing up with the ambition of being a 'celeb', someone is who is famous for no other reason than the fact they are famous, or believing that marrying a footballer is actually a career in itself.
I used to despise the paparazzi and feel sorry for the people they hounded, but to be honest, nowadays it's shifted, and I despise even more the people who are so desperate for every bit of exposure just for the sake of exposure itself. I can not fathom what role these people actually play in society.
