To be looking forward to Autumn now?

I feel like we’ve had our summer now, and a pretty good one at that.

The weather has turned here today, it’s 16 degrees, 40mph winds and pissing it down. I’m walking the dog but not in my winter coat or waterproof trousers as I’d be too hot so it’s not altogether pleasurable.

I was shopping yesterday abc picked up some joy chocolate and marshmallows, something I haven’t bought/ had since March.

We’ve just had 2 log burners installed and I’m really looking forward to being able to curl up in front of those.

It’s also the first autumn in our new house/ location as we moved in the spring and I’m looking forward to countryside walks when the leaves are falling etc. (We lived rurally before but there were no public footpaths so you weren’t allowed to walk on any of the land whereas now we can walk for miles snd miles on public footpaths and not see a soul)

I’m looking forward to Halloween, bonfire night and Christmas. After Christmas I’m done and will be longing for Spring!

Obviously all of the the above will probably be different this year due to COVID, but I’m still looking forward to it.

I said all this to my friend yesterday who looked at me like I was mad and said ‘err, no way, I’m still enjoying summer.’

OP, I could have written that post myself! I'm looking forward to all the same things plus drinking pumpkin spice lattes and hot chocolate, walks through the crunchy leaves and sitting curled up with a book under a blanket!

Thisismytimetoshine · 26/08/2020 19:01

@userxx

pumpkin candles lit etc

🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮

Why?!
Cam2020 · 26/08/2020 19:55

So many grumps! No-one's forcing anyone to snuggle under blankets, enjoy walking in the brisk air, light candles, snuggle under blankets, or anything else that might be deemed 'cosy'. You're more than welcome to moan and be miserable for the next five or six months! To each their own!

PablosHoney · 26/08/2020 20:01

I do love autumn and if it was a matter of snuggling under blankets I’d say yay but the reality of another lockdown but with shite weather scares me, the kids won’t want to stay in all the time.

LouisBalfour · 26/08/2020 20:04

Me too! I love Autumn so much. Winter clothes, dark nights, no disappointment in the weather. I can smell it in the air - bring it on.

userxx · 26/08/2020 20:06

@Thisismytimetoshine Because they smell rank.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 26/08/2020 20:13

Uh oh! The cosy people are out in force early this year.

You're all nuts Grin. Everyone knows spring is the best season. Two words: grey. fog.

PablosHoney · 26/08/2020 20:14

I love Spring too, it’s my favourite

Thisismytimetoshine · 26/08/2020 20:14

Ah, right. They're not compulsory, though. Nothing pumpkin inspired in this house. Can't get enough of all the rest of it, though Grin

eveningsong · 26/08/2020 20:16

Autumn can be a lovely season so OP YANBU.

IdblowJonSnow · 26/08/2020 20:18

I've really enjoyed this summer (covid aside) but I do love autumn, the leaves changing and nights drawing in. Especially early autumn. Dislike the spiders marching inside tho ... Sad

Ginfordinner · 26/08/2020 20:18

Sounds perfect Manolin, and it's nearer my sister.

Roominmyhouse · 26/08/2020 20:31

I don’t hate autumn but I don’t like it getting dark earlier and the damp chilly mornings. Spring and summer are just so full of light and hope and autumn is the end of that.

howmanyroads · 26/08/2020 21:03

Cosy is the exact right word for autumn, why so much hate. I don't like any other season (much)

Cosy cosy COSY

userxx · 26/08/2020 21:10

Uh oh! The cosy people are out in force early this year.

Very early, autumn isn't until the 22nd September. I'm hoping for a heatwave between now and then. After that I will happily hibernate until the spring.

SantaClaritaDiet · 26/08/2020 21:16

What is so cosy about damp and rainy days, dark mornings and evenings and cold and humidity settling in for the next 8 months or so?

Vintagevixen · 26/08/2020 21:21

I'm with you OP, Me and DD are ridiculously excited about Autumn nearly being upon us. Even thinking about it has cheered me up - can't wait for the dark evenings, I love them. Me and DD think we should be vampires, we love the night so much!

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 26/08/2020 21:27

@MondeoFan

Yes been stocking up on autumn candles and new bedding. Got a new tv, new lounge blinds and a lovely heart made from wool with some little lights around it. I'm already imaging and cosy autumnal evening with new blinds closed, pumpkin candles lit etc
Do you live in a QVC advert?!
JustSaying101 · 26/08/2020 21:27

I'm really looking forward to Autumn, it is one of my favourite seasons.

Saying that, I do really love the Summer and hate when the clocks go back and it's pitch black darkness at 4pm!

I personally choose to 'begin' Autumn from the Autumnal Equinox, think it's usually around 22nd/23rd September to ease myself in gently!

Also, I find the first couple of weeks of September have been (in the past) fairly Summer like, but by mid-September, the leaves are changing, temperature is cooling down, etc.

Anyone else use this Autumnal Equinox date or is it just me?!

Thefab3 · 26/08/2020 21:33

I hear you op, we’ve done loads of work on our house and it’s full of fireplaces and a lovely wood burner.
It’s a really gorgeous old house and it’s fab in winter. I love sleeping and I like when I get into bed at 9 and it’s all dark outdoors, it’s more acceptable 😂
Also Halloween and Christmas are just magic now that we have kids , honestly wasn’t that bothered before children with decorating etc but love it so now, those holidays are a million times better with children and seeing their faces when it snows!

userxx · 26/08/2020 21:35

Anyone else use this Autumnal Equinox date or is it just me?!

Well, that's when autumn begins so yeah maybe everyone should start going by the equinox date. 🤷‍♂️

Thefab3 · 26/08/2020 21:36

But I do also enjoy the sun and have been lucky with really great weather this year and getting out with the kids is so important too.

DilloDaf · 26/08/2020 21:36

No amount of snuggling and cosiness and candles can make up for the short days, and chilly damp gloom. And all the extra work involved in cleaning up after muddy dog walks.
Life is so much easier in summer.

PablosHoney · 26/08/2020 21:41

I love dark mornings, so peaceful somehow

Yep, many go with the official 1st September meteorologist date. Seems a tad early to me though...
