how old were you when you had your children

I had ds1 at 21 ds2 24 ds3 at 28. Did you feel too old or too young? Or was the age just right for you. I feel that it would have been better for me if I had had my first at 28.

43 and wouldn't change it

elp30 · 24/08/2020 22:49

21, 27, 30

I only knew one other young mother when I had my oldest. But I felt that I had my children at the right age for me.

I'm 50 now (I'm also a grandmother of three from my oldest) and all my children are grown. My time is now for me and my husband.

Ds1 21
Ds2 22
Dd1 25
Ds2 27

OwlinaTree · 24/08/2020 22:51

First at 34, but was a loss.
Second at 36, third at 38, actually a month off 39!

The plan was first at 32, second at 34 maybe? But best laid plans and all that...

I do feel old at times, and watching my children with their grandparents makes me wonder whether I'll get much of a chance to grandparent. If my daughter has her children at the same age as me I'll be in my 70s!

DS1 25
DD1 28
DD2 33
DS2 due in 2 weeks, I'm 36 now

  1. I wish I'd waited until my 30s but my husband was getting on a bit.

31 now and still only the one.

Ginger1982 · 24/08/2020 22:53
  1. Wish I had been a couple of years younger but didn't meet DH until 29 then marriage and infertility followed.
YerAWizardHarry · 24/08/2020 22:53

19 when I had DS. It was unplanned but we both worked full time so was mostly fine. I struggled as my friends were in totally different places. My DS is almost 8 now and an only and can't see it changing because I don't want a big age gap (and still have two years of uni and probation year!)

Geekster1963 · 24/08/2020 22:56

39 when I had our one and only after six miscarriages I would have been 35 otherwise. I do think I would have had more energy if I was a bit younger but it is what it is.

SapphosRock · 24/08/2020 22:57

34 and 38. No regrets at all. I was having far too much fun in my 20s and early 30s to be tied down by kids.

riotlady · 24/08/2020 22:58

25, she was a surprise! Wish I had been a bit older and more settled but if I had conceived at a different time I would have a different child and I would never want to change her!

recklessruby · 24/08/2020 23:00

19 when I had ds.
25 when I had dd.
I thought I was so grown up but looking back I really was a bit young.
I m 52 now and they are both at home at the moment. We go out together and enjoy living together.
I wish I d been older but they love it that I m still young enough to be interested in the things they like.
Tbh I wouldn't want to have a teenager now. They wear you out in your late 30s!

gumball37 · 24/08/2020 23:03

25, 35, 37. Much better at this as an older mom... Calmer for sure.

WonderWebbs · 24/08/2020 23:03

34 after several rounds of IVF. Glad we didn't wait any longer, 4 years to conceive, would have loved another one but it wasn't meant to be. For me anytime in my 30's would have been perfect.

justjuggling · 24/08/2020 23:05

31 & 35. Probably about right.

sunshineandshowers21 · 24/08/2020 23:05

15 - ds1
23 - ds2
27 - dd1
28 - dd2

Emmmie · 24/08/2020 23:05

DD1 21
DD2 (on the way) I will be 40

Gingerfish91 · 24/08/2020 23:06

Eldest at 27, 2nd at 34 and last at 35. 27 was too young. I wish me and DH had done more travelling and had more time alone before having children. I mean we had 4 years but didn’t do much!

gumball37 · 24/08/2020 23:06

@MercuryRising

I was 25, 28, 35 and 38. I felt young with the first 2 and feel I have been a much calmer more relaxed parent with the last 2. But that could be due to experience rather than age.
Ha. I just replied something similar!
Miseryl · 24/08/2020 23:07

25 and 35. Would have preferred 28 & 33 but life doesn't work out to a perfect timetable.

Bentoforthehorde · 24/08/2020 23:10

25, 27, 31, 32.
Just about perfect for my age and their age gaps for us.
Although my nan when I was 29, she never got to meet my 2 youngest. My daughter is named after her.

Lollypop4 · 24/08/2020 23:11

18,22,30 & 32

Jenje · 24/08/2020 23:13

32 and 38. Neither planned but both welcome.

WitchenKitch · 24/08/2020 23:13

I was 30, 33.

I've sometimes thought I'd have been a better mother if I'd had a baby at 20 - less set in my ways, less used to total independence and doing whatever I want. Those habits can be painful to break.
But I wouldn't have wanted to be tied to any of the guys I was around at that age! shudder
It took me that long to meet my husband, who is perfect for me, and a wonderful father. So no regrets.
(Also, when I was pregnant at 33 I was totally wow, glowing, in my prime - that was fun! Grin )

KarlKennedysDurianFruit · 24/08/2020 23:14

34, just right for me. Married, owned a nice family home in a good area, career going well and stable, had travelled and enjoyed ourselves plenty.
