For me it's lorries in the middle lane on motorways, driving parallel to another. Yes I know they have deadlines, but miles and miles side by side? 😡

Short cutters who go turn off into a
lay-by off the main road in a traffic jam, whizz down and expect to be let back in further down - effectively queue jumping

FudgeBrownie2019 · 24/08/2020 19:35

People who don't indicate need to be sent to a faraway island without cars and where the sand is pebbly and uncomfortable to walk on as punishment for their bullshit driving.

I have lost count of the times over the last month or so people driving in front of me haven't indicated. i'm not an up-your-arsepipe kind of driver so I've not driven into anyone, but it's still a shitty way to drive.

AltheaThoon · 24/08/2020 19:36

People who sit in the middle of two lanes when one lane is closing so stop drivers going down the closing lane and "pushing in". All the signs I dictate that both lanes should be used and then MERGE IN TURN. It's not pushing in!

People who can't/ won't reverse or get their cars close enough to the hedges for another vehicle to pass. Don't come to rural Devon if either applies to you!
Cyclists who continue up our admittedly steep hills for mile upon mile and don't give way even though it's a single track road and you can't get passed.
Walkers/cyclist who have headphones in and are totally oblivious to other road users.
Walkers/cyclists/horse riders who don't wear hi vis.
People with loose dogs or kids on narrow lane and don't give way or half go to one side and half to the other making navigating safely between them difficult.
Cyclists who travel in packs. We are on several long distance cycling routes here and we frequently get 30+ cyclists traveling together or spaced out just close enough that you can't get passed!

The80sweregreat · 24/08/2020 19:49

Just people in general!
They hate me as I keep to the speed limit and I do let people out etc!
I hate driving, so I tend not to do it that much if I can get away with it!

AnotherEmma · 24/08/2020 19:56

My DH's driving annoys me, and I wish for the sake of marital harmony that I could be more tolerant, but I hate it. The main problem is that he doesn't ANTICIPATE. We're driving along on the motorway and I can see quite far in advance that we are driving faster than the vehicle ahead of us, because we're getting closer to it quite rapidly - if I was driving, I'd check my mirrors and see if the outside lane was free, so I could move into it well in advance to overtake with a wide berth, or keep an eye out for a safe gap in the traffic, and if I couldn't move into the outside lane in good time, I'd relax the accelerator a bit to start slowing down early and gradually. DH, on the other hand, will continue merrily driving at the same speed until we're right behind the slower vehicle, by which point he may or may not be able to move into the outside lane, and if he can't, he will brake very late. It drives me MAD.

He also frequently uses the wrong lane when approaching junctions - getting into a flap and having to change at the last minute or (horror) on a roundabout, and cursing people for not letting him in (?!). He seems incapable of following a sat nav without me also telling him what to do. And he is always far too nice and will sit for ages letting others go even when he has right of way.

He has many wonderful skills and qualities that I appreciate deeply, but his driving is not one of them!

(Sorry DH!)

Snapchatting when driving. A friend did this driving livestock and then had an issue that ended in a road being shut

It IS pushing in if one lane is virtually stationary though isn't it?

The "merge in turn" only works if both lanes are travelling at the same speed or queuing.

After all, a car moving into the right hand lane because the queue is shorter is only doing it to "jump the queue" aren't they?

I have to agree with Althea, but only as my driving instructor told me that if everybody used both lanes and merged as indicated, the queue would flow faster as there's less distance that's single file...

My pet hate is tailgating when I'm going at the speed limit, although I find saying to myself, "well you should have set off earlier" or "I honestly don't understand why you've bought such an expensive car when you're so desperate to get to your destination and get out of it" quite therapeutic.

Most of the above also gets my goat.

Also indicating too early on a roundabout so it appears you're exiting out when in fact you're staying on it.

And rear fog lights being put on when it's not foggy especially when it's heavy downpour.

Pleasebeafleabite · 24/08/2020 20:19

People who don’t realise that a mini roundabout is still actually a roundabout and same rules apply

People who after overtaking on the motorway and then pulling back in front of me in my lane nearly taking the front end of my car off because they’ve not left enough space in front of me. I cannot cannot cannot understand the mentality of this. Do they like spatial awareness? Why not leave it an extra second before you pull back in?

KarmaStar · 24/08/2020 20:20

Anyone without two hands on the wheel.
Idiots in a long line of slow moving traffic who fail/refuse to drive on a leave a huge gap.
Drivers under the influence of drink/drugs.
Reckless drivers.
Drivers who cause an rtc on purpose to make false injury insurance claims.
Arrogant,rude drivers.
Other than that,I can't think of any....😊

I do this I’m afraid. I have a road coloured car and I’d rather make sure everyone can see me than run up my back end thanks very much

JuniLoolaPalooza · 24/08/2020 20:24

The thing I've discovered with tailgaters is that they are often not looking at the road. If I pull over to let them by, they'll often pull up behind me then get pissed off when they realised they've tucked themselves in for no reason! They're not reading the road at all, just looking at your bumper (or their phone). I usually have the kids in the car so I just let them go by, shame they don't realise what's going on!

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 24/08/2020 20:29

Overtaking on a particular road by me. It's a crap road so if you overtake I'll be right behind you at the end of the road. Like there's no point especially as a good proportion of the road would involve overtaking on a blind spot

AltheaThoon · 24/08/2020 20:37
  • It IS pushing in if one lane is virtually stationary though isn't it?

No. It's not queue jumping. It's using the road properly. If one lane isn't moving and the other one is then the people sitting in the jam aren't using the lanes properly. The whole purpose of it is to make use of the available road and avoid tailbacks. It's the idiots people who sit across both lanes blocking the faster lane (someone in a huge motorhome did this to me recently as I was driving down the closing lane, stopping me in my tracks), or sitting bumper to bumper to not allow people to merge who aren't using the road correctly.

BitOfFun · 24/08/2020 20:41

Kids at my local secondary school cycling home with neither lights nor reflective clothing, even though the days are getting shorter and it's hard to see them once twilight sets in. Some of them (boys) even ride into oncoming traffic so they can ride three abreast pulling wheelies Hmm.

People who drive slower than necessary but then speed up at every potential passing place. This is a man thing only in my experience. Its endemic where I live.

riotlady · 24/08/2020 20:46

Cyclists who don’t signal what they’re doing. Help me help you, guys.

YeahWhatevver · 24/08/2020 20:49

@greenforme

I'm with you on cyclists. IMO anyone using the roads should pay road tax and be insured. I include horses in that too
What about zero tax bracket cars?

Or are you OK for those road users to not pay "road tax"

firecracker69 · 24/08/2020 20:50

People who drive and pick their nose whilst not giving a flying fuck that all and sundry can so obviously see.

EscapingFromWorkStress · 24/08/2020 20:52

People that impatiently overtake in rolling jams only to find yes there is a reason i am going this f-ing slow and now i have to look at your numberplate instead of his

And those that come on the outside of a lane merge to the front and try to force their way in the front of the queue

tobee · 24/08/2020 20:55

Cyclists who think red lights don't apply to them.

Drivers who think 20mph does not apply to them. And overtake to do 30mph in a 20.

Road users who don't understand mini roundabouts.
