Lovehoney calling open crotch knickers "schoolgirl"?

Mxflamingnoravera · 23/08/2020 21:09

Was I BU to submit a review to Lovehoney for the name of this product on their site. (Schoolgirl open back knickers) .
I've called them out on this in their review section.
Just appalling that a site like that which is for adults would use such a term. It's the last time I buy anything from them.

OP posts:

@englishrosie

I have those knickers from LH. Love them. It’s an adult site, a fantasy. YABU.
Having sex with a school girl that is too young to consent is a fantasy? How is wanting to have sex with children (I.e people too young to consent) different from wanting to have sex with children? Which one is ok and which one is paedophilia? Please do explain.
SillyCow6 · 24/08/2020 17:43

YANBU

For those debating the "rape pants" if they did a bundle deal on handcuffs, restraints etc and called it a rape kit - would that be ok?

Benjispruce2 · 24/08/2020 17:43

It’s not completely like a war scenario because soldiers are adults who willingly join and fight. Children who are abused have no say.

Sheknowsaboutme · 24/08/2020 17:43

I think its wrong. Anyone thinking a fantasy about fucking a school girl is pretty grim.

Gurtcha · 24/08/2020 17:44

Of course YANBU OP. There’s 100 other things they could’ve called them without associating children to them.

NiceGerbil · 24/08/2020 17:44

Well there's a handful of posters who think it's ok, one who is super keen and the rest think hell no associating schoolgirls with fucking on a mainstream site (or anywhere) is grim.

So am overwhelming vote for grim as all fuck.

LittleGwyneth · 24/08/2020 17:45

@Chocaholic9 No - I'm a woman. A sex positive woman, at that. You can look at my previous posts, there'll be stuff about my miscarriage etc. Just because I have a more liberal stance on sex and sexuality from you, that doesn't mean that I'm a bloke.

I think probably time to tap out of this discussion. I've posted links and cited peer reviewed evidence, and people have largely responded by suggesting I'm a rape apologist or a nonce. Time to retire for a glass of wine, I think.

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 24/08/2020 17:46

Fantasizing about children isnt 'liberal' ffs.

Benjispruce2 · 24/08/2020 17:47

It’s ethical apparently Hmm.

Gurtcha · 24/08/2020 17:48

Pretty sure wanting to have sex with children isn’t called ‘sex positive’......

MordredsOrrery · 24/08/2020 17:49

@LittleGwyneth if it really is that common why oh why is that, do you think? Could it possibly be because society doesn't view rape seriously? That it's the woman's fault? I'm going to take a stab in the dark that some of these rape fantasies involve the victim dressing or acting provocatively in the 'she deserves it' sense. It's yet another drip drip drip of misogyny that normalises these stupid notions and leaves women afraid to report their attackers.

One day I will read the reports.

While this shit is considered normal and common rape victims will never be taken seriously. That's why I'm so angry and I'd love it if you could at least try and understand why it might be seen as repugnant, regardless of how common or popular it is

Ghislainedefeligonde · 24/08/2020 17:49

Yanbu
That’s completely unacceptable. Wtf if wrong with people Angry

IAmFleshIAmBone · 24/08/2020 17:50

'sex-positive' is just a way of saying "I can't be arsed giving proper consideration to the class/social impact of porn, prostitution, or the normalisation of harmful and deviant sexual behaviours and attitudes. As long as I can do what I want, fuck the consequences."

HoneysuckIejasmine · 24/08/2020 17:53

YANBU OP and it is grim as fuck.

NiceGerbil · 24/08/2020 17:54

1 in 3 women watch porn.

Yeah right.

We are saying woman = all female over 18 till death right?

We have an ageing population... I can't see that many 80yo women getting their jollies with porn...

The most popular type being lesbian is interesting. Possibly because some women want to watch it but mainstream het porn these days is so utterly misogynistic that they look elsewhere...

I thought gay porn was v popular with women as well? As in men.

If the stats on the sex of the viewer and what they watch are gleaned from porn sites then it's all bollocks anyway.

Chocaholic9 · 24/08/2020 17:54
@Chocaholic9 Either your social group is not representative of society in general, or they're not being honest. All research shows that around 1 in 3 women watches porn.

FWIW it's perfectly possible to pay for ethical porn, or to watch socially sourced porn, and keep your conscience clear.
Ethical porn is a misnomer.

I would question these studies. I would imagine rigged by men so they can say "oh, but it's the women who want to watch other women being raped".

You are fully participating in the patriarchy.

Chocaholic9 · 24/08/2020 17:55

@IAmFleshIAmBone

'sex-positive' is just a way of saying "I can't be arsed giving proper consideration to the class/social impact of porn, prostitution, or the normalisation of harmful and deviant sexual behaviours and attitudes. As long as I can do what I want, fuck the consequences."
Yep. Exactly.
StillWeRise · 24/08/2020 17:56

OP YANBU
I may be mistaken but didn't MN link to a recommended sex toy from these people? If so I's suggest now is the time to stop endorsing them
this is normalisation of child sexual abuse

EvaHoffman · 24/08/2020 17:59

I've posted links and cited peer reviewed evidence

Yes of course there is evidence that lots of women and men do this!!! Nobody here is denying it happens! And you can buy special outfits in high street shops and see videos of pop princesses alluding to it. It's common and ubiquitous and lots of people think it's fun. But none of that makes it ok!

It's not ok. So it would be a good idea if people stopped doing it. People really can choose not to act out harmful fantasies.

Acting out sexy schoolgirl fantasies is in NO way liberal. It's an extremely conservative and old fashioned idea of 'sexiness' even mainstream.

IAmFleshIAmBone · 24/08/2020 18:02

Not only is it old-fashioned, seedy, sleazy and morally questionable, its also cliche as fuck, a bit 'Rita, Sue and Bob Too'

EvaHoffman · 24/08/2020 18:16

The following are not justifications for doing things:

 1. It must be fine because I saw it in a high street shop
 2. It's fine because my naice friend does it with her husband when she's had a bit of Prosecco
 3. It must be fine because there's lots of banter about it
 4. It must be fine because I saw it in a sitcom/soap opera/music video
 5. It must be fine because some women choose to do it.

Popularity or commercial success are not markers of morality.

There are so many sexy things you can do in the bedroom but acting out child abuse is not one of them.

noss24 · 24/08/2020 18:21

Awful even given the site is not for under 18s.

HoldMyLobster · 24/08/2020 18:32

@Mxflamingnoravera

Lovehoney are "looking into this matter" and will get back to me.
I'm interested to hear what response they give.

Right now they're probably wondering why they're getting so many people coming into their site from Mumsnet.

Budapestpest · 24/08/2020 18:43

Grim. Yanbu op. Not at all

NiceGerbil · 24/08/2020 18:44

There's another group who Google schoolgirl xyz of course. With more innocent intentions who will get presented with all this sort of stuff.

Cue people saying children must be observed using the internet to age 18 at all times.
