Lovehoney calling open crotch knickers "schoolgirl"?

Mxflamingnoravera · 23/08/2020 21:09

Was I BU to submit a review to Lovehoney for the name of this product on their site. (Schoolgirl open back knickers) .
I've called them out on this in their review section.
Just appalling that a site like that which is for adults would use such a term. It's the last time I buy anything from them.

YADNBU. And to the posters who are just a bit meh about it. WTAF is wrong with you?!

TheChampagneGalop · 26/08/2020 14:46

They really are promoting the sexy school girl thing on their website.

PigglyWigglyWoo · 26/08/2020 14:57

I don’t understand why they didn’t just called them plaid/checked/tartan/whatever and if people are into dressing up as minors they can do that privately, I’m sure they’d still find a ‘suitable’ outfit on the site.

eatsleepread · 26/08/2020 17:07

YANBU. At all.

AKissAndASmile · 26/08/2020 17:13

YANBU

AKissAndASmile · 26/08/2020 17:14

🤮 to the people telling you you are over-reacting

NiceGerbil · 26/08/2020 17:23

Interesting that the 4 groups on that screenshot are groups of women that historically have been well known to get a lot of sexual harassment / coercion.

Interesting. In a bad way.

NiceGerbil · 26/08/2020 17:25

Oops 3 groups.

Fair to say there is a men in uniform thing. I'd argue the power dynamic is very different when women ogle men. And certainly definitely different than underage.

MulticolourMophead · 26/08/2020 17:30

@DianasLasso

YANBU.

Normalizing perving over schoolgirls is grim.

All the people blathering over "oh it's a common fantasy" should have a look at some of the threads where women discuss their experience of being perved over by adult men back when they were 11, 12, 13 and wearing school uniform. Or of watching it happen to their 11, 12, 13 year old daughters.

Some sexual fantasies are horribly screwed up. This is one of them.

This.

I got perved over as a schoolgirl, and saw it happen to my DD. We should not be encouraging any more perving than is already happening.

Just because it's happening, it doesn't make it right.

Charliescar · 26/08/2020 17:32

I agree it’s wrong to call them that . It is making it sound ok to look at school girls undies . I understand it’s an adult website , but this is unnecessary. You don’t know who is looking at theses photos and it could trigger something in a weirdo .

TheChampagneGalop · 26/08/2020 17:44

@NiceGerbil

Yes, the categories for women are subservient roles and even underage girls, while the men get to be "heroes" Hmm I don't see any sexy teacher or sexy female boss outfits.
yesterdayisgone · 26/08/2020 17:55

Does anyone else think that Bonnie Tyler’s total eclipse of the heart video was sexualising schoolboys ? Confused

NiceGerbil · 26/08/2020 19:37

Yes it's very odd all round.

Not sure what that has to do with the thread though?

StillWeRise · 26/08/2020 20:17

OP well done on the search and it will be interesting to see what they come back with
Related to that, I have used google images while at work to find an image of 'a schoolgirl' . That was unpleasant.

longwayoff · 26/08/2020 20:52

Mid life crisis male fantasy knickers surely?

NiceGerbil · 26/08/2020 20:53

They do sizes that will fit men?

Doggybiccys · 26/08/2020 21:16

It’s basically fetishising rape as school girls are too young to consent or at the most 18 years of age. I can’t remember the last time I saw an advert suggesting young boys wear crotch less pants so that adult women can live out their sexual fantasies.

Mxflamingnoravera · 07/09/2020 15:48

Update, I received this from LH today:
I'm reasonably satisfied with this outcome and thanks to you all for supporting this.

Thanks for your patience while we looked into this for you.

We appreciate your feedback on the naming of our products and as a result we will be making the following changes:

•	We will be renaming our Sexy Schoolgirl categoryy_ to Sexy Adult Student Costumes
•	We will also be changing the product names and removing all references to schoolgirls. Specifically in reference to the ‘Lovehoney Schoolgirl Open-Back Crotchless Knickers’ this will be changed to ‘Lovehoney Tartan Open-Back Knickers’
•	We will also be amending the product descriptions for each product.

We will have actioned these changes across the Lovehoney.co.ukk site by next Friday 11th Septemberr.

Please let me know if you would like to discuss this further or if you have any other questions.

Thank you again for your feedback.

Glad that they listened and did something about it!

minipie · 07/09/2020 16:43

That’s a good outcome OP, well done. And well done Lovehoney for listening (hopefully they will have a better radar for this in future)

YourWinter · 07/09/2020 16:49

UGH that's awful, not funny, not clever, definitely not sexy. The 'schoolgirl' reference is atrocious marketing.

The sort of man who likes open-crotch knickers or peephole bras (yes, you, the ex who expected me to find them thrilling) will pursue his cause without help from LoveHoney.

Pelleas · 07/09/2020 16:51

A fantastic outcome, well done.

NiceGerbil · 07/09/2020 16:54

Well done op and well done Lovehoney for not just rolling your eyes and saying get stuffed Smile

FiveFootTwoEyesOfBlue · 07/09/2020 17:01

That's a really good result. They did actually listen! Well done.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 07/09/2020 17:08

I expect they listened and acted fast because they have this weird arrangement with Mumsnet (unique as far as I know) where they do lots of advertising-by-stealth on here with those long running Chat threads. You know the ones "Tell us about your favourite Love Honey products" often with a giveaway thrown in, where hundreds of posters are in a rush to say "oooh me, I'd love a womaniser" etc. Odd and a bit tacky. Don't know why they can't go in the Sex topic but there you go.
