Media blackout on marches happening today

orangesnapples · 22/08/2020 15:23

Is it me or is it not very strange that 1000s of people currently marching though our major cities today and no media coverage?

They are marching for our children's rights, to awareness to trafficking etc

Does the lack of coverage just play into the hands of those that accuse the media of being part of the problem.

They are currently peacefully marching to bring awareness because there sadly is hardly any awareness of trafficking, most people have the completely strep typical idea of what trafficking is, that is all some world wide elite club.
But the sad truth it looks very different, and is probably happening in a home near you right now.

So why no coverage. My SM is flooded with 1000s I f people walking the streets of Liverpool, London etc.

I don't want to believe there is darkness in control of our media and what we see etc but honestly I can't think for the life of me why this isn't being covered.

Yeah, ignoring poorly organized marches about an issue that already has a great deal of international attention... that isnt a sign that anyone's "ignoring" trafficking.

They're probably just ignoring Qanon whackjobs. It's OK to do that. The "saveourchildren" stuff has been identified as a trolling technique to disrupt online conversation about coronavirus, BLM, Kamala Harris, etc etc. It's a good idea to ignore it....

ListeningQuietly · 22/08/2020 16:07

@chomalungma
That does not look like Nottingham.

Looks like it's got links to anti-Muslim sentiments, Donald Trump, British culture being under attack.

Probably got an issue with immigration, 'woke' culture, diversity etc,

No doubt they claim to be good Christian people.

Redcrayons · 22/08/2020 16:11

God bless Donald Trump

That’s because Trump is deep undercover smashing the trafficking rings and will expose all the celebs who eat kids with pizza they’ve ordered through Wayfair.

(I know, I need to go back to work)

MistressMounthaven · 22/08/2020 16:13

I wouldn't get involved in anything that is an issue in the US because this is not the US, we don't have the same problems as the US, we don't have guns like the US, we don't have hundreds of miles of unmanned border like the US, we don't impoverished South American countries across the border from us, in fact we don't have a border we have sea.
I'm sure it goes on in the UK but I would guess under a totally different guise and jumping on the US bandwagon is just a distraction from our problems.

canigooutyet · 22/08/2020 16:14

Are those pictures from today even?

monkeymonkey2010 · 22/08/2020 16:18

Isn't the whole "Save our Children" thing linked to a lol of conspiracy theory stuff?
I don't have facts and figures......but my gut and the 'reporting' i've seen via various mediums my whole life, tells me that there's an awful lot of people who 'suddenly' go 'missing' and are never found.
Too many children....
Where do they 'go'?

We all know human trafficking happens right in front of our eyes - we just choose to 'overlook' it as we go about our day to day business being a part of it all cos the authorities don't care.

They can go to the moon....build space stations in space....send thousands of satellites that can track even the small rodent via their technology.....yet they 'can't' find these missing people?

There's no reporting, even less independent reporting, via mainstream media cos they're owned by the very ones who like to play God with people's minds and lives.

Social media and personal sharing of info is about as independent and 'real' as we can get right now....as always we have to discern in our assessment.....but the truth is the world has tilted into a different reality.

Sciencefictionnotfavt · 22/08/2020 16:19

@Hingeandbracket

The BBC seems to have an aversion to reporting almost any march or demo. I am not sure why.
Not any demo. They reported the ‘peaceful’ BLM protest where 27 police officers were injured.

Ah - that's what the small group with the banner was all about. DS spotted it from the car (I was driving therefore not paying much attention other than to the road.

My knee jerk response was "From what? And to what end?"

If it was legit, I feel like they'd have done a much better job of their PR.

And yes, I do know trafficking covers a wide range of things - I have friends in both police and SS child protection work, and I know how busy they are and how sometimes trafficking can mean "getting a 14 year old hooked on drugs then moving her to a bedsit in the next market town" rather than "brought from Romania in the back of a lorry."

I still think this feels a bit odd.

PhilSwagielka · 22/08/2020 16:20

The one in Nottingham has far right groups involved, apparently. It’s QAnon stuff.

heartsonacake · 22/08/2020 16:20

We’re still in the middle of a pandemic. Nobody should be doing any marching or protesting.

JaniceBattersby · 22/08/2020 16:20

I am a newspaper reporter and was asked by a local group to cover the protest today. I didn’t, for several reasons

  1. we have a single, on call reporter covering the whole county at the weekends. They can only really cover huge, urgent stories. This is the same for most local newspapers nowadays. (People cheered all over FB the last time there were redundancies announced - this is the dir3ct result of that).

  2. The protest here was not very big. Maybe 30 people? That’s not a big news event, certainly smaller than many other protest that happen around here.

  3. I asked the group for some local stats on child abuse and trafficking to localise the story. They did not provide me with any. I asked them to be specific about their protest - they told me it was ‘against child trafficking’. Everyone is against child trafficking (except the traffickers) so not really a news story.

  4. Mass gatherings are banned under current Covid-19 laws.

  5. Most importantly, many of the organisers’ FB feeds were also filled with alt-right madness linked to 5g, anti-vax, anti-mask conspiracy theories mixed in with their #saveourchildren hashtags. The inference is that the police, politicians, and the media (or the MSM, as the crackpots like to call us) are responsible for child abuse. The last time I looked, the only people bothered enough to sit at court for seven hours on a wet Tuesday to make people aware of the latest paedo being sentenced, were local newspaper reporters. So yeah, if you want us to cover your protest, next not to slag us off on your open FB profile.

  6. I do not want to give conspiracy theorists a platform. I discussed this with my editor and she agreed. That’s as far as the conspiracy goes on this one. I imagine there were similar conversations in newsrooms around the country. If you want to be credible and come across as rational, don’t ally yourself with right wing lunatics.

The first six words are accurate - you don't have any facts or figures. Keep taking the pills and you'll feel better in the morning.
PhilSwagielka · 22/08/2020 16:22

Also, it kills me that they’re claiming to be pro-veteran and holding up a sign saying ‘G-d bless Donald Trump’ when Trump mocked a disabled veteran on TV.

I don’t trust them.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 22/08/2020 16:22

It is in Nottingham, I can confirm. I'm from there and I was in the city today and saw it.

However there are some videos circulating twitter that are definitely not from Nottingham but claiming to be of people attacking police.

Viviennemary · 22/08/2020 16:23

A handful of bedraggled looking ready for a fight marchers aren't going to do any cause any good. I for one don't want to see it.

FlamingoAndJohn · 22/08/2020 16:25

Are these the marches that Tommy Robinson was encouraging people to go to to protest against ‘Muslim rape gangs’?

FlamingoAndJohn · 22/08/2020 16:27

The middle of a pandemic so far.

You do have a border. It's with Ireland.

Yes. There is a strong overlap. The DFLA are involved as well.
rvby · 22/08/2020 16:42

I don't have facts and figures......but my gut ffs do give over. Everyone's "gut" says a million things. I daresay ever person beaten to death in the street will have the murderer insisting that their "gut" told them the victim deserved it. Get a brain for gods sake

BananaPop2020 · 22/08/2020 16:44

The local “paedophile hunter” group kept trying to hijack/promote this on FB, so that in itself was quite telling.
