I sympathise, bland diet and lots of water to dilute acid.

Aworldofmyown · 21/08/2020 08:56

Horrible Sad as pp very bland low fat meals. Keep telling yourself its only temporary.

steff13 · 21/08/2020 08:57

Milk helps me

cultkid · 21/08/2020 09:08

It’s horrific, and I have every sympathy. I didn’t think I was going to manage but I did somehow. I seem to remember I was allowed gaviscon up to, I think, 48 hours prior, but you’ll need to check with the clinic first. I tried to eat little and often to absorb the acid, all very bland and carby to give it something to work on. I couldn’t wait to get the omeprazole down when I got home. Hang in there: this, too, shall pass.

welshweasel · 26/08/2020 21:16

It’s totally unnecessary to stop the omeprazole in the vast majority of cases. Why are you having the test?

TAKESNOSHITSHIRLEY · 26/08/2020 21:16

nexium

Mellonsprite · 26/08/2020 21:17

Can you not have rennies either?
I’ve swallowed toothpaste in desperation with heartburn sometimes.

Yeah, I never had to stop taking it except during the fasting period right before the test. I couldn't have done without it for a week, I have bad GERD.
BlueManakin · 26/08/2020 21:22

Are you allowed Gaviscon?

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 26/08/2020 21:42

Spoonful of extra thick double cream helps. Doesn't do much for your cholesterol, mind but it helps with heartburn. So does drinking milk.

Tatapie · 26/08/2020 21:50

My doctor told me to stop omeprazole before an endoscopy, was told at the clinic it was unnecessary, outdated advice.

It is.
Dessicator · 27/08/2020 06:19

I had a gastroscopy and didnt stop.taking it.As the whole point was to see if it was effective. I'd had a gastroscooy a few weeks before and put in it because of what they found.

cultkid · 27/08/2020 07:09

Oh for god sake that is so frustrating

I have a letter which lists basically all of the heart burn remedies telling me not to take them

I've hardly been able to eat
My chest feels like food is trapped in it

I feel like my muscles to get the food down are going at the wrong time

The stabbing pain under my arms and shoulder blades as well as in the centre of my ribs is just horrendous

I'm really cross

One more sleep to go

I've been eating the chalk tablets and taking pain killers

OP posts:
InDeoEstMeaFiducia · 27/08/2020 07:50

I wouldn't have been able to go without, my mouth would be full of acid. I wouldn't be able to sleep as I'd wake choking on acid.

MrsMonkeyBear · 27/08/2020 08:18

I had to stop omeprazole to do a h.pylori test. 2 flipping weeks of agony and the results came back inconclusive, so im now waiting on a gastro referral.

I was chugging gaviscon like there was no tomorrow. I did ask for ranitadine but its impossible to get hold of and they wouldn't prescribe and alternate H2 antacid.

cultkid · 27/08/2020 19:08

It's tomorrow at 145

I am sooo scared

Health professionals have been told not to prescribe it and stocks of the effervescent tablets were recalled by Teva because of the fear of it being contaminated with NDMA
(N-nitrosodimethylamine) which has been identified as a risk factor in the development of certain cancers.

cultkid · 28/08/2020 06:32

I've just been eating rennie

Its today at 145 I am so worried bad terrible nightmares

OP posts:
Sleakeasy · 28/08/2020 06:57

I’m really worried about this. My 11yesr old has been on omaprazole since last November. Currently waiting for a date for endoscopy. I’ve got no idea how she’s going to cope without her meds in the run up to it.

Hope you get sorted OP

cultkid · 28/08/2020 08:35

I've been in pieces 😭 I've lost weight due to hardly eating
Been taking co codamol to help with the pain 15/500 and eating chalk tablets
Its one week only that they have to do it

Can you call for an update
I waited less then 14 days for the procedure date from referral and referral was within 3 weeks of flagging with my doctor the terrible indigestion

I

Have had several of these (they are grim, opt for sedation) and no need to stop tablets, only the fasting element the day before. Hope it goes OK.
