What's your dream job?

I work in theatres (neuro) and it's good but I do worry about still being in this role when I retire! I like it but it's so stressful, on calls nearly every week, you have to be there within 30 mins day or night, angry surgeons etc etc. I think I'll wait until my husband gets his next big promotion up to 150k and I don't have to contribute my wages and then retrain. This is an agreed plan of action, he wants me to be happy and I'm so lucky I've got him.

So what would you retrain as? Or what is your dream job? I've been an odp for so long now I can't even think!

I'd love to work for a massive advertising agency who manage major accounts. I'd love to be creative and put pitches together, then see my adverts on TV. It just seems like such a fun, creative job to have. I work in marketing so I'm not far off I suppose.

LouisaKelmen · 19/08/2020 19:00

I'd love to retrain as a computer programme coder. I was really good at it as a teenager (basic language) but I then became too interested in boys.

I did knuckle down to studying and now work in a medical field but would love to leave to learn python/java etc.

Tour the world as part of an ABBA tribute band - if only
I could sing and look vaguely like Agnetha.

Failing that, I'd love to be a dolphin/ whale watching your guide but I'd need to find my sea legs first.

MyNameIsAlexDrake · 19/08/2020 23:57

I'd love to work or be a volunteer in the citizens advice bureau, after decades of being a civil servant and dealing with loads of bureaucratic stuff, would be nice to be on the other side and actually help people.

Mrscutesmummy · 20/08/2020 00:06

Definitely when I was young and free the dream was to be a travel writer / anthropologist / photographer for a magazine like national geographic. Be paid to have adventures and explore. Or do humanitarian work with Red Cross or OXFAM or similar.

Astronaut as the sky might be the limit but the universe is a whole new other level.

I love my current job (solicitor) but I would also love to own a bookshop. I worked in a library while I studied for my master's in law and I loved recommending books and sorting displays etc.

LasagneQueen · 20/08/2020 00:25

Still determined to write my novel one day.

Otherwise actor or private detective, property developer or run a lovely bookshop with a cafe attached.

I always wanted to work in radio when I was a teenager, pref as a DJ. I was mad keen on music and even now my knowledge of artists from those days (teenager in the 70s) surprises me and other people Grin I did go in for a chat at our local station but back then most of the opps in radio for women were in admin, which I thought wasn't for me. Then of course I left school and went straight into admin.

I'm a nurse, also toying with the idea of leaving and doing something else completely. The last few months have made me realise life is too short to stay doing something that I don't love, and although I love some of my colleagues, some of them really grind me down. I day dream about being a dog walker, personal trainer or yoga instructor (I'm not particularly fit or good at yoga, which may be a problem ).

Currently applying for nursing jobs outside of the hospital to see if I can be passionate about a different role. But if not then I will be seriously looking at retraining in something else, and doing agency work to fund it. I might look into a career coach to get some ideas

I always think nurses were better than average people. But love to know they struggle to and respect other 'lesser' careers as much as we respect their jobs. X

I have a few

Concert pianist. I daydream about walking onto a stage, taking my place and everyone falling silent in awe at the beautiful music I am making. I can't even play the piano!

Hotel reviewer. I'd love to travel around, stay in lovely places and get paid for it!

Wood or stone carver. I'd love to spend my days chiselling stone or wood into objects Then polish them up and have people buy them.

Restorer I've watched too many episodes of the Repair Shop and am in awe of their skills.

I could go on and on.......

When I was a little girl I wanted to run an orphanage. Later I wanted to be a veterinary nurse. I ended up working as a carer for people with dementia.
If I had my time again I'd like to be a forensic scientist or a speech/play therapist.
