I literally would eat anything that I was given and it just wouldn't bother me - apart from extreme foods like insects or unusual animals

Am I really unusual or do many other people have no strong feelings about food?

maybe there is something wrong with me and my tastebuds? Most people seem to hate a certain vegetable or a certain meal...

The only thing I really dislike that I can think of is coriander. I'm not sure whether I could force myself to eat it.

There are plenty of things I probably wouldn't choose to eat if there was an alternative (offal, brains...) but that I would eat if someone put them in front of me and not eating might offend or upset them. Apart from coriander, I haven't found any food actually inedible yet.

It sounds like if you only don't like insects or unusual meats - that's probably more psychological than taste-based.

I am quite fussy, but more like the critic in Ratatouille - I like food so much that I begrudge eatings foods I don't enjoy (as opposed to hate) unless I have to.

I love trying different foods but some things I just wouldn’t/couldn’t eat. These are mainly offal based like brain, tripe, eyes, kidneys. I don’t know anyone in real life who would eat absolutely everything. I’m fascinated by Andrew Zimmers videos where he eats extreme food from different parts of the world. There is nothing he won’t have a try of.

I'm the same Op, I even enjoy bitter gourd. One thing I have never been able to eat is mango thkugh, can't stand it

I like pretty much everything...I'm not at all fussy. As long as it's cooked well, I'll eat it. It's only if things have been badly cooked that I dislike them...I rarely dislike the actual food item iyswim.

Can't stomach aubergine, falafels, spinach, fried bananas and oddly cheese. But cheese is because it fizzes my tongue.
Anything else, even offal and fish eyes, I'll happily try/eat.

I tried brains once...it was truly vile. I wouldn't do that again...I'm not crazy about offal but I'd eat it if I was given it at a dinner party.

There's vegetables, fruit, meat, spices that I prefer more than others but not so much so that I'd refuse to eat anything.

I have little patience with grown adults who fuss over things like onion, garlic, various herbs in things etc

I also struggle to find foods I don’t like. I don’t like lamb or liver much, but that’s about it and I don’t dislike them so much that I couldn’t eat them if I had to.

My husband used to say he ate anything, didn't have any sensory issues or dislikes.

We don't have tuna in a tomato sauce because that's weird. I don't cook the peanut based thing I really like because it's weird to have lumps of peanut in with potato. Something else, can't remember what, is unreasonable because it's too cloy-y. If there are tiny lumps in mashed potato it is simply impossible to eat.

He has just about accepted that he does have issues with certain foods. Still deep down believes that anything he doesn't like is Inherently Wrong.

I really like brain Blush... well duck brain anyway. Like a very meaty pate.

I haven't found anything I am unable to eat, although I have my favourites of course. I have never tried insects (although I did once eat a scorpion).

I think I might struggle to eat one of those huge barbecued tarantulas, mostly because I hate spiders.

I eat most things too. I can't stomach offal but grasshoppers were rather tasty, had chocolate covered spiders once, also tasty.

I have (or had covid has dampened it) good taste buds in that I can pick out each herb or spice in a dish, in just open to most foods. Just no not tripe in a jar!

I remember trying some weird game animals in a trip to Kenya as a child.

But I wonder if it correlates to personality type as I am not fussy about things other than food as well. Do easy going people tend to be more easy going eaters?!

I’m one of these people who have never ever tried anything I don’t like. I haven’t even tried a single thing that I slightly dislike. I can’t understand the sensation of what it is like not to like a taste or texture when people say they don’t like something. Maybe it’s coming! It’s just an experience I can’t recall having with anything I’ve ever eaten. Perhaps it’s because I don’t have a very discerning palette. I will put anything down my throat like a pelican!! I could literally pick food from a random menu blindfolded or have a stranger order from a menu for me and I would be happy with whatever is served.

I’ve eaten everything travelling from fermented shark to exotic African meats to snails, froglegs, cured insects etc (but obv I don’t eat things like this each day) I just don’t know of any everyday foods or ingredients I dislike. It’s helpful for things like people cooking for me or hosting me but I would love to choose a restaurant every now and again as I still definitely have foods I love more than other things!!!

I think this is how I feel too. I think this is why chefs and most foodies are notoriously unpicky eaters because they love food and food culture so much that a lot of food is more about so many other things than just literal taste. Happily eating a blind 10-course tasting menu for example would be no problem.

Same. I don't particularly like offal and don't like the thought of eating insects, and I'm not a fan of blue cheese. However, if I was out in a restaurant and someone presented with a nice looking fish that contained any of the above I'd give it a good go.

I’m jealous, I have sensory issues with food so can’t eat as much as I’d like (although with CBT it’s improved drastically). I’d love to be able to eat whatever!

Not sure if it’s a personality thing though. I’m very laid back and relaxed in most other areas of my life, but food is a very specific issue for me.

I've found that my tastes have widened as I get older, and most things I eat I find palatable. The other day I had a dish with a weird herb flavour which I didn't actively like - yet I still enjoyed eating it.

Food textures rarely bother me, yet fabric textures do. I'm far fussier than I used to be about what I will wear and touch, and far less fussy about what I will eat.

Unfortunately my gut disagrees with my head and heart, and I now have to avoid certain foods. I still enjoy them (I just know I will have to pay for it later).

I love food. Eating it, cooking it, feeding it to other people, talking about it, everything Grin
