There is nothing I don't like eating

hisonny · 18/08/2020 11:20

I literally would eat anything that I was given and it just wouldn't bother me - apart from extreme foods like insects or unusual animals

Am I really unusual or do many other people have no strong feelings about food?

maybe there is something wrong with me and my tastebuds? Most people seem to hate a certain vegetable or a certain meal...

OP posts:
Iggypoppie · 18/08/2020 12:35

I'm the same, it's a burden :-(

AriesTheRam · 18/08/2020 12:36

Anything apart from raw tomatoes and radish for me.

GunsAndShips · 18/08/2020 12:39

I'm vegetarian but eat whatever people give to me, even if I don't particularly like it. I have preferences but I see food as fuel. I really don't like beetroot but even that I eat if it's served up. I don't see it as a burden though, it's efficient!

IndiaMay · 18/08/2020 12:43

I'm the same, I cant think of anything I don't like. I wouldnt eat offal, brains, raw meat etc. But in terms of food I eat anything, cant understand this no fish, no smelly cheese etc. It all goes down

thepeopleversuswork · 18/08/2020 12:47

There are not many things I absolutely can't stomach. Basically all offal is completely off limits for me. I also hate rhubarb. I'll eat more or less anything else.

AintOverUntilTheCatLadySings · 18/08/2020 19:45

I'd eat basically anything. Only things I can think would possibly be something still alive (although I eat oysters), eye balls or that cheese that has live maggots in it.

I've tried insects and wasn't keen.

I've eaten crocodile, snake, rat and other 'exotic' meats. Weird how everything tastes like pork.

I wouldn't like to eat anything endangered but had birds nest soup and shark fin soup on a business trip when much, much younger.

Anything you'd encounter in most normal circumstances I'd be ok with.

AintOverUntilTheCatLadySings · 18/08/2020 19:45

I love offal too.

totallyyesno · 18/08/2020 19:53

I'm the same I think. There are things that I wouldn't ever choose to eat (avocado, eurgh) but I would still eat it without a fuss and make appreciative noises if I was served it. I don't hate it, just don't like it.

LioneIRichTea · 18/08/2020 20:06

Same OP I wouldn’t eat insects though as I have this thing they have bitter juices inside them 🤢 I don’t like liver and I tried kangaroo once and it was so tough and chewy it wouldn’t go down. (Took a lot of wine!) 😆

Myotherusernamewastakenagain · 18/08/2020 20:16

There's a few things I'm not keen on (cabbage type, some others) but I can eat them. I can safely say I'd eat any food or drink any drink you can buy in Tesco if it was served to me.

RiteAid · 18/08/2020 20:18

I’m not fussy but I am vegan and the thought of eating animal products now grosses me out. But they didn’t used to. In the bad old days I would happily eat almost anything.

Dilbertian · 18/08/2020 21:50

I've heard this, too, though I've also heard that snake and croc taste like chicken.

I wonder whether it's to do with whether the animal was a herbivore or a carnivore/omnivore. Pig is the only western meat-animal that is not a herbivore, and poutry are also not herbivores.

BluebellCockleshell123 · 18/08/2020 22:12

I’m the same. I eat a wide range of things and never found anything I don’t like. All meat, fish, carbs, veg, herbs, sauces, fruits, drinks etc fine with me. Insects are ok but wouldn’t eat them out of choice. Same with offal (apart from liver & heart which are totally yum).

I like cooking and I like variety. We rarely eat the same meal twice in a month.

I feel really sorry for people who can’t eat everything for whatever reason although I’m always happy to cater for folks with different tastes, allergies, preferences, etc.

NonsensicalWitch · 18/08/2020 22:19

I studied in Paris and lived in student halls. There was a young man there, who was a farmer's son. He had this way with food; he saw it purely as fuel. As in, he took NO enjoyment from nice food nor any displeasure from bad food. He would do things like buy a cheap piece of horsemeat and cook it in the microwave till it was cooked through and grey and smelly. He'd eat that in exactly the same way he would eat a beautiful pastry or something. It was quite strange.

I don't like cheap meat or very processed food. I'm not mad on butternut squash and sweet potato. Other than that, I eat almost anything.

zeddybrek · 18/08/2020 22:22

I'm the same, will eat anything including liver, bitter gourd and wired stuff. Have eaten ostrich and crocodile before but that was decades ago.

Married to a man that is the fussiest eater ever and allergic to onions so we balance each other out!

Pikachubaby · 18/08/2020 22:28

Lucky you!

I can’t eat blue cheese or anything mouldy really

I can’t do chewy meat with gelatinous fatty bits and sinews

I can’t eat silk worms or grass hoppers or other insects

I can’t eat kidneys or guts

I’ve had to eat all of the above, to be polite to the hosts, whils concentrating very hard on not gagging Envy

Stannisbaratheonsboxofmatches · 18/08/2020 22:28

I don’t think I’d eat brain or certain types of offal, like tripe (I think tripe is offal?). Kidneys or liver are fine though.

The only things I don’t like within the “normal” range are tomato ketchup, or certain types of mayonnaise or mustards, or anything containing those things. There are also things I wouldn’t put together or things I prefer to other things.

Basically I’d always say i eat everything but the above suggests that’s not strictly true!

I don’t like red bull either.

Stannisbaratheonsboxofmatches · 18/08/2020 22:30

I can’t do chewy meat with gelatinous fatty bits and sinews

^^
That’s a point, I don’t like that either! I don’t think I could physically swallow those things.

IHaveBrilloHair · 18/08/2020 22:32

I'm similar, I'll eat most things in the realms of normality.
I absolutely love trying new new foods.

TigerDroveAgain · 18/08/2020 22:35

Yeah. I eat everything and you can tell, I’m pretty fat!

In 58 years the only truly inedible thing I have come across, apart from rotten food of course, was a cuttlefish stew in Greece last year: pricey fancy-pants restaurant- utterly rank dish!

SenorFrog · 18/08/2020 22:40

But I wonder if it correlates to personality type as I am not fussy about things other than food as well. Do easy going people tend to be more easy going eaters?!

I think you have an image of picky eaters recoiling away from foods they don't like and making a fuss. I'm super laid back but there are lots of foods I don't eat, I just say no and move on. I know there are plenty of the recoilers around, they get on my nerves too, lol

LirBan · 18/08/2020 23:03

Duck brain! euruughghgh. I have never tried it but I feel sick that somebody on this thread tried it.

LirBan · 18/08/2020 23:05

@senorfrog, yeh, if I'm at somebody's house, I could eat almost anything although I'm going to hope i'm never served brain.

Raella50 · 18/08/2020 23:13

Must make it easy eating out! I’m quite fussy really. I love food but I like simple-ish cooking where j can actually taste the meat/ veg being served. Can’t stand a lot of sauce or spice thrown over foods. Proper French/ Italian cuisine is my favourite.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 18/08/2020 23:15

I thought that, too. Until someone served me century eggs. I couldn't eat them.
