There is nothing I don't like eating

hisonny · 18/08/2020 11:20

I literally would eat anything that I was given and it just wouldn't bother me - apart from extreme foods like insects or unusual animals

Am I really unusual or do many other people have no strong feelings about food?

maybe there is something wrong with me and my tastebuds? Most people seem to hate a certain vegetable or a certain meal...

Just googled them. don't blame you.

CardsforKittens · 18/08/2020 23:22

My son is like that. He used to ask for broccoli for dinner when he was barely talking (I never met a baby who loved broccoli before). He eats things that make me shudder, like baby octopus. He once said he thought artichoke was a bit over-rated, which is probably the most negative thing he’s ever said about food. Meanwhile, my daughter only eats beige food: pasta, chicken, chips, bread etc. It’s so weird because I’m sure I brought them up the same way.

Clymene · 18/08/2020 23:36

I'm allergic to shellfish and some fish which limits me somewhat. And I'm not keen on kidneys. But I'll eat pretty much anything else. I've eaten guinea pig and llama in Peru and insects in Asia

flowerrful · 18/08/2020 23:41

Have you people tried Durian fruit?

formerbabe · 18/08/2020 23:44

Never tried durian but I'm really intrigued and would like to. Some people say it's vile and some people love it. I'd like to find out for myself. Can you even buy it in the UK?

aLilNonnyMouse · 18/08/2020 23:45

@hisonny

I remember trying some weird game animals in a trip to Kenya as a child.

But I wonder if it correlates to personality type as I am not fussy about things other than food as well. Do easy going people tend to be more easy going eaters?!

I'm fairly easy going day to day - I don't get stressed out by plans changing and prefer to just take things moment by moment rather than planning everything out perfectly in advance.

I am a very fussy eater though. Food with the "wrong texture" is my biggest trigger and trying to force myself to eat something I don't like is a fast track to a plate of puke.

I wish I was different but it's hard to change when I have so little control over it.

DipSwimSwoosh · 18/08/2020 23:48

I am the opposite. There are so many things I can't bring myself to eat. They make me want to gag. It feels like an impulse. They are utterly revolting to me, almost like a poison. So many...
mushrooms
celert
radishes
sweet and sour
marshmallows
sweetcorn
parma ham
smoked salmon
raw onion
parsley
rocket
wasabi

Ilovesausages · 18/08/2020 23:54

I’m vegetarian but can’t think of anything vegetarian that I wouldn’t eat.

Although my husband isn’t a very good cook and sometimes I can’t face eating what he has cooked. It means I mostly cook which is annoying but I like my cooking :)

flowerrful · 18/08/2020 23:55

You sometimes see Durian in London's Chinatown. I had a Durian chocolate once, and regretted it. Could maybe find them online?

Ilovesausages · 18/08/2020 23:56

I was very fussy as a kid though. But not anymore.

I’m reasonably easy going I think.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 19/08/2020 00:04

I'm not an easy going type but before I was a veggie I was pretty amenable to most food I came across. I liked liver, faggots, rabbit, mussels, black pudding etc.

notso · 19/08/2020 00:32

I'd love to be like that. My Dad would eat anything to be polite despite being actually quite fussy.
There's so much I just can't eat and can't even pretend as I just heave and gag often at the smell. Some bog standard everyday foods like banana, sliced bread, packet ham, chicken nuggets, raw tomatoes, I simply can't eat.

DeRigueurMortis · 19/08/2020 00:38

Well in terms of the title of you're thread re: "nothing I don't like eating" yes I'd say you are unusual.

I'll eat a wide range of foods and have tried all sorts of weird/unusual foods and generally live by the motto that I'll try anything once......but though I have and will continue to eat a wide range of foods I can't pretend I like/liked all of it.

Obviously some foods I love, others are ok, some is just "fuel" but there are definitely some foods I dislike and some I honestly couldn't bring myself to eat again without being sick...

Chanjer · 19/08/2020 07:12

I'd prefer not to eat insects or certain animals but if you put it in front of me I'd give it a go

Most offal is great, the bits I don't like are boring rather than horrible

Not overly fond of snails and not keen on oysters but I try them still just in case

Caspianberg · 19/08/2020 07:16

Same. There are some foods I don’t like as much ie coriander, so at home I don’t tend to cook with it. But if someone else cooked with it I would happily eat it and not be that bothered.

DailyKegelReminder · 19/08/2020 07:20

Well I would try anything. Doesn't mean I would like it enough to eat every week. Except olives i really dont like the taste of shite in my mouth.

Fish, lamb, Brussel sprouts all things I'm not a fan of and wouldn't cook for myself but would eat as a dinner guest.

AriettyHomily · 19/08/2020 07:27

I can't eat fish. The smell of it makes me want to hurl. I'd starve rather than eat fish.

I dislike shellfish intensely but could eat prawns or scallops if I had to.

Also really dislike lamb but again would eat it if I had to.

TeddyIsaHe · 19/08/2020 07:28

I eat everything. I honestly don’t think there is a good I wouldn’t try. Stuff like balut is delicious but looks facking horrendous.

Brains, offal, chitlins, snails, raw oysters yum yum yum!

I think my grandad is the cause, he had a love for weird food and used to get me to try everything when I was a toddler. Haven’t stopped since (probably why I’m so fat Grin )

Mintjulia · 19/08/2020 07:36

The only things I’ve ever hated are tea (the smell), and hot chilli. I’ve never been offered insects and would like to keep it that way.

So I get what you mean, some people seem to find it very complicated.

I know someone who refuses to eat anything home cooked, in case the cook didn’t wash their hands.

Eats packet food - croissants, juice etc or goes out to eat but seems to forget the chefs in the restaurant kitchens Hmm

LirBan · 19/08/2020 07:43

@Mintjulia i understand your friend! Once, years and years ago, a kind woman from work invited me over for dinner when i was going through a tough time. She had gone to a lot of trouble but i noticed one of her cats licking the knives and forks on a stand on her counter. I had to counsel myself into eating the food "she is not sick, she has survived this, eat, say mmmm".

justanotherneighinparadise · 19/08/2020 07:48

I wouldn’t eat tripe.

LouisaM100 · 19/08/2020 08:43

I'm sure I'll make a lot of people feel sick reading this, apologies in advance.

I would agree with OP however, there are some things I was forced to eat at the dinner table by my parents in my teens that I still remember and will never eat again.

In our culture, no part of a sheep/lamb is wasted or thrown therefore I have tried:

Sheep's head
Eyeballs
Brain
Tongue
Stomach lining
Intestines
Bllcks

They were all marinated in different sauces, spices, herbs etc but no I will never eat them again.

Everything else I am fine with.

LirBan · 19/08/2020 17:21

You should ho on im a sleb get me outta

Caryler · 19/08/2020 17:25

I am so envious.

I’ve got lots of things I can’t eat, but I am also incredibly picky too. I wish I wasn’t. Its texture not taste for me. I’ve actively started to introduce new things though, and it is easier than I previously found it now I am older

SleepingStandingUp · 19/08/2020 17:26

When people say they're easy anything, do they mean they're willing to just get on with way and slurp those brains, or that they've never found something they didn't actually enjoy the taste and texture of?
