I’m vegetarian and have just had a veggie breakfast delivered. Does this look real? It has a skin/film around it like a real sausage!

YABU - it’s vegetarian eat it
YANBU - don’t chance it, looks real

Could be either. What does it smell like?

I really fancy a fry up now.

CremeEggThief · 17/08/2020 12:12

Double check with the restaurant/cafe staff.

FlamingoAndJohn · 17/08/2020 12:12

I can’t see the picture but I know why you worry.
I’ve had many sausages that I’ve been dubious about.
In my experience though you can tell a real one. The fat is obvious.

Is it from somewhere you trust? Are there other vegi items like vegi bacon?

Jargo · 17/08/2020 12:13

Impossible to tell but veggie sausages also have film/skin around them to help them keep their shape.

I find it out that you are vegetarian but using a place which delivers in horrible polystyrene boxes though.

Pelleas · 17/08/2020 12:13

Offer it to a cat - if it's veggie, the cat won't be interested.

vodkaredbullgirl · 17/08/2020 12:14

Looks horrible what ever it is lol

FlamingoAndJohn · 17/08/2020 12:14

The way it is crisp around the edge is the worry isn’t it.
That said I have one like that in my local vegan cafe. If I didn’t know for sure I would check.
Ask them what brand of sausage they use.

frustrationcentral · 17/08/2020 12:14

The shape of it - pinched ends- reminds me of a quorn sausage

FlamingoAndJohn · 17/08/2020 12:15

My cat loves a vegi sausage, she also will run across the room for hummus.
ByeGermsByeWorries · 17/08/2020 12:17

Can you ask someone else with you to taste it?

thunderandsunshine01 · 17/08/2020 12:21

This is the first time I’ve ordered from this little local place, I wouldn’t normally order a fry up like this but the kitchen is being gutted! It is the crispness that’s a worry I guess although I know some look so real now. My 8 yr old DD who eats meat reckons veggie Hmm

FlamingoAndJohn · 17/08/2020 12:27

You can generally tell. It’s the fat, no matter how good a vegi sausage is the fat isn’t ever the same.

AdultierAdult · 17/08/2020 12:28

It could be veggie! I’ve had veggie sausages like that. The Richmonds/Denny’s also look REALLY realistic.

evamumm · 17/08/2020 12:29

That really looks like a quorn sausage to me

Nottherealslimshady · 17/08/2020 12:30

How firm is it? Meat sausages tend to be fattier and mushier. Cant think of a veggie sausage I've had that has a skin though

AnnieOH1 · 17/08/2020 12:31

Looking at it I believe it's a veggie sausage, it looks the same as ones my MIL serves up I just don't know the brand unfortunately.

dottiedodah · 17/08/2020 12:31

Pelleas My old dog loved veggie "ham" and would pester my veggie friend for some every time she cam round for lunch!

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 17/08/2020 12:31

It could easily be veggie. Look at the cooked photo on this.

Areyouquitesure · 17/08/2020 12:32

Looks veggie to me

And delicious 😋

Notreallyawaitress · 17/08/2020 12:34

I’ve just had some Richmond meat free sausages that had a skin on. They look far too much like cheap pork sausages for me to buy again- I’ll stick to the Cauldron ones.
Yours look like they’ve been deep fried

notso · 17/08/2020 12:36

Grin for some reason this has really made me chuckle.

BigBadVoodooHat · 17/08/2020 12:37

I doubt the OP was planning to eat the packaging, but even if she didn't I'm pretty sure polystyrene is not made from meat.
