As is the case for many, we have missed out on a few holidays this year.
Our final holiday - a week in our caravan in Wales - was not cancelled and the thought of it has kept me going. I actually extended the 7 nights to 12!
Well we are here. The weather is shocking and is for the foreseeable. Thoughts of lazy days on the beach have not come to fruition. Instead, I am working incredibly hard to make it fun for everyone (Including two teens!) by planning outings in torrential rain (and all indoor activities are closed!) We are on the campsite next to the noisiest group of people who think playing music, swearing and shouting until 1am is acceptable!
I know I should be grateful that we have a holiday at all but it would be much easier to just go home and relax!! Obviously, I won’t but I want to!!

I hope you got a good sleep in your own bed last night!

I like bad weather holidays when I had an inkling beforehand, so brought extra games, wet weather gear, more snack food etc.

We had a great week in centre Parcs one year where it poured most of the week, so the outside pool was reasonably calm, we had lots of fun walking in the woods in rain gear and wellies, and DH and I drank copious amounts of wine while dd drew on the blackboard (she was about 3 at the time).

We also go to the west coast of Ireland at all times of the year, bringing rain gear, wet suits and alcohol (latter as much because they are often family gatherings!). We escape to the good "local" (10 miles away) cafe at least twice for breakfast. Walk the beach in the rain, surf unless it's dangerous winds, play cards at night (and sometime rack up data use on phones as there's no internet there). And we've also learned to bring the ingredients for at least 1 baking session to distract us for a few hours and later enjoy the results.

And my Cub pack's fondest memories of camping are the ones where it lashed down on us (not necessarily the leaders favourites!😂) and they got wet pulling down the tents. Or jumping into the lake fully clothed. (One family loved recounting for years the tale of their older DSis who had to go home dressed in her pjs because she had jumped into the lake in her last dry clothes shortly before the last tents went into leaders cars - luckily her dad was a leader and knew his family well too, so just rolled his eyes, but it still comes up some years in the "what you shouldn't do" talk before we go....)
