To be bloody fed up and ready to go home!

As is the case for many, we have missed out on a few holidays this year.
Our final holiday - a week in our caravan in Wales - was not cancelled and the thought of it has kept me going. I actually extended the 7 nights to 12!
Well we are here. The weather is shocking and is for the foreseeable. Thoughts of lazy days on the beach have not come to fruition. Instead, I am working incredibly hard to make it fun for everyone (Including two teens!) by planning outings in torrential rain (and all indoor activities are closed!) We are on the campsite next to the noisiest group of people who think playing music, swearing and shouting until 1am is acceptable!
I know I should be grateful that we have a holiday at all but it would be much easier to just go home and relax!! Obviously, I won’t but I want to!!

And let’s face it, after the year we’ve all had who the fuck wants to go for a walk

haha right?! My eye starts twitching now whenever I hear the phrase "we could always go for a walk!"

ginghamtablecloths · 17/08/2020 09:31

Either cut your losses and come home or see if you can swap your pitch to another which hopefully is quieter OP. What's the point of staying if it's miserable? Sorry you're having such a bad time.

WhatifIfeellikeacat · 17/08/2020 09:32

Can't you visit some castles or anything else to see?

myusernamewastakenbyme · 17/08/2020 09:32

An ex of mine had relatives that lived in Wales...whenever we visited it was always raining...I'd come home op...I cant stand camping or rain so id be miserable.

jakeyboy1 · 17/08/2020 09:34

@annie987 having a tour south then north but either way the rain is following us unfortunately!

WhatifIfeellikeacat · 17/08/2020 09:38

48 in 2018, with Covid19 would be fewer of course but maybe something will be of an interest.

Properly laughed aloud at this conversation^^.

I always remember a lovely holiday we had in Pembrokeshire, it was simply beautiful. Wales is very interesting.

I'm so sorry about your bad weather, especially considering how hot it has been up until recently. That really is bad like. However it may improve - it's lovely and sunny here today.

jessstan2 · 17/08/2020 09:39

bad 'luck', not 'like'

jakeyboy1 · 17/08/2020 09:40

The problem is all the indoor activities are still bloody shut and the castles that are open are closed Monday and Tuesday! Had found some castles to visit but they are bloody closed the days we are here!
You couldn't make it up.
Normally we go to Devon and it pisses down so had booked to go abroad. That got cancelled and now we're in wales in the rain. After last weeks sunshine where I worked a 50 hour week I could cry. Keep reading up about the £100 covid test that gets you into Barbados and dreaming...

DownToTheSeaAgain · 17/08/2020 09:41

OP we are in Anglesey too and the weather has been great. What has been interesting though is largely the weather forecast has been completely wrong. Today is the first day when the predicted rain has actually arrived. Before that we had several days of predicted rain and nothing to show for it so once we get over today you might be pleasantly surprised.

Also the wetsuit suggestion is a good one. I am not sure where you are on the island but the water is so warm and even my moody teens have enjoyed it.

Oh, that's terrible Sad I wish you luck!

Waytoomuch82 · 17/08/2020 09:47

Wales and Scotland holds no appeal to me. What’s the point when chances are you’ll be wearing your wet gear trudging around trying to find cover.

As I said, I’ve been away in south of England twice this summer and it has been glorious (in fact too it during the heat wave but honestly... it was like being in a tropical country!)

And now we leave for another coastal town for four nights, again SE England. Much milder than previous two times this summer but this is the forecast...

To be bloody fed up and ready to go home!
Friendsoftheearth · 17/08/2020 09:50

I agree way the difference in weather patterns this year has been striking. South of England totally boiling every day. North of the UK seems to be chilly and wet. If weather is important go far south as possible!

YetAnotherSpartacus · 17/08/2020 09:51

Last time we were in Wales it poured down every day AND there was a strike on too, so many museums were closed as well.

itsgettingweird · 17/08/2020 09:52

@Graciebobcat

Camping is never that relaxing and always weather-dependent.

Wales is lovely but always a risk weather-wise. South coast and Isle of Wight are far more consistent. Pembrokeshire seems to get the sunniest weather in Wales. We had beautiful weather there last October half term.

I'm south coast and can see IOW from here.

It's pissing down and forecast to do so all week 🤣

And it's usual for this time of year - hence why normally I'd be off to Spain later this week.
However this year I'm glad it was cancelled back in July.

Thewiseoneincognito · 17/08/2020 09:52

I feel your pain OP! Relentless rain just makes UK holidays miserable in normal circumstances never mind with indoor activities being closed due to a pandemic! We do Cornwall every year but this time we skipped it in fear of your experience happening. The thought of struggling to eat out without reservations or queueing in the rain makes me glad to be ‘stuck’ at home.

The most annoying thing is during lockdown the weather was absolutely glorious. I feel our summers now start earlier the past few years and seem to turn squidgy by mid August.

Friendsoftheearth · 17/08/2020 09:54

Or bloody 'family time' come to think of it alexis I have had enough f*cking quality time with my dc to last at least one life time probably two! Grin

hamstersarse · 17/08/2020 09:56

Wales just isn't a good destination for a 'summer holiday', I see Wales as an outdoor activity place. Climbing, walking, cycling, castles etc. which you can basically do in the rain. It is not a BBQ and laze around type of place.

In your position OP, I'd either go home or resign yourself to card games and monopoly. Some of the best holidays I have had have been in your circumstances - getting piss wet through in the day walking etc. then playing poker in the evening. It's not the Greek Island experience of course, but does have a certain charm.

DullDullWeather · 17/08/2020 10:00

Awww

What a lovely thing to do for them @Hellokitty82
Wish you was my neighbour Flowers

SleepingStandingUp · 17/08/2020 10:01

Given your at the bottom of a hil op is an if you can be moved re weather which will hopefully sorry the noise issue too.

Delatron · 17/08/2020 10:05

I sympathise OP and you should just go home, it’s not a holiday is it?

I do think expectations of a ‘summer’ holiday in Wales should have been lower though. Have you been before? I just wouldn’t risk it because of the likelihood of rain. I certainly wouldn’t expect to be chilling on the beach in the warm sunshine! So many indoor attractions are closed too so no back up.

Yep, people can rave about UK holidays but the truth is you just can't rely on the weather. You may get lucky like last week and the heatwave but most likely not, especially Wales and Scotland.

maddening · 17/08/2020 10:11

I think the issue with holiday parks and big campsites is that you can end up next to arse holes and there is little to no sound proofing, we had one fantastic one near tenby with no issues but it is more luck than judgement. I reckon if the neighbours were alright it would be more bearable.

Petronas · 17/08/2020 10:13

I want to stop going on holidays with my teens, they all seem to end in frustration and disappointment - even abroad they were a bloody nightmare - sleeping to 3pm (moaning at us for turning the coffee machine on a 7am) and then up half the night - it all felt like a pretty expensive, uncomfortable excursion. We talked about going a UK holiday - dd pointed out that we had perhaps seen enough of each other and we didn't need to go away together - I enthusiastically agreed.
