To be bloody fed up and ready to go home!

As is the case for many, we have missed out on a few holidays this year.
Our final holiday - a week in our caravan in Wales - was not cancelled and the thought of it has kept me going. I actually extended the 7 nights to 12!
Well we are here. The weather is shocking and is for the foreseeable. Thoughts of lazy days on the beach have not come to fruition. Instead, I am working incredibly hard to make it fun for everyone (Including two teens!) by planning outings in torrential rain (and all indoor activities are closed!) We are on the campsite next to the noisiest group of people who think playing music, swearing and shouting until 1am is acceptable!
I know I should be grateful that we have a holiday at all but it would be much easier to just go home and relax!! Obviously, I won’t but I want to!!

What part of Wales are you in?

HeronLanyon · 17/08/2020 07:12

Definitely come home unless the neighbouring nightmares will leave soon. Sounds as though without them you
Could just about cope. (‘Cope’ = holiday !Grin)

carlyfrench · 17/08/2020 07:17

Just go home. You've at least had a change of scene. 2 holidays now cancelled at the 11th hour for us and everywhere near us way too busy to go. Resigned to day trips to scratch the itch to travel.

Anyone who has had anything resembling a decent break this year is bloody lucky. Thankfully we live in Cornwall so it could all be a lot worse. The weather here has been pretty decent since March.

IndiaMay · 17/08/2020 07:33

This is exactly why I'm going abroad this week and isolating on return

Waytoomuch82 · 17/08/2020 07:35

Wales, Scotland - chances are shite weather. Spoils so much.

Stick down south! I’ve had to SE holidays this year - could have been in the south of France!

Tash6000 · 17/08/2020 07:35

We are in Wales atm on a caravan holiday and although it was forecast a bit of rain it was actually beautiful sunny and warm weather from 10.30am onwards and only a bit cloudy before. So have hope the weather will turn! Meant to be sunny with potential thunder today but it is what you make of it at the end of the day. Also get some wetsuits and go in the sea, it's incredibly warm in my opinion. Thought the kids would be in and out in 30 seconds but they spent hours in the water.

Waytoomuch82 · 17/08/2020 07:35

Two SE holidays

Pelleas · 17/08/2020 07:37

I'd stick it out in the hope the weather might perk up. I once abandoned a tent holiday because of the awful weather and forecast - the forecast was wrong and the day after I got home the weather perked up and was lovely for the rest of the week.

itsgettingweird · 17/08/2020 07:41

The one holiday I actually can remember with some detail was the one where it went tits up Grin

We did actually have a good time but it's hard when it's not what you expected.

We've had a few where it's not quite gone how we expected

The above one - tornado in France followed worst storms whilst camping.

Stuck due to Icelandic ash cloud

Diverted to Glasgow when landing in Gatwick due to snow and other flights being diverted to Gatwick.

Not fun at the time but something to talk about after!

TheBusDriver · 17/08/2020 07:42

I am currently in the Cardigan Bay area and we were having fun in the sea and walking in a wildlife park yesterday

PaternosterLoft · 17/08/2020 07:44

We came home from our holiday a day early as I couldn't be arsed with another night's crap sleep on a crap mattress, listening to the campsite next door, then getting up at the crack of dawn, dragging 4 teenagers out of bed, getting them fed and dressed, totally cleaning the house, bagging up all the bedsheets and towels in some complicated system and packing the car - all by 9am, only to drive for 8 hours back. We left the night before and by 11pm I was in my own comfortable bed in my own quiet house. Bliss.

Nikori · 17/08/2020 07:47

Can you move your tent away from the noisy people? If you’re not having fun, then come home. Have you checked the weather forecast?

FippertyGibbett · 17/08/2020 07:50

This is exactly why I stayed at home. I’ve had too many crap holidays this country.

GarlicMonkey · 17/08/2020 07:51

I'm just back from Wales. It was my first & last time. I feel even more ready for a holiday now than before we went.

Friendsoftheearth · 17/08/2020 07:51

I want to live next door to you hellokitty

Are you sure it is only the weather op? Holidays with teens wherever you are can be hard work. I would stop the exhausting one woman holiday entertainment programme (it is not your job to provide this as well) and find a spa for the afternoon. Leave them with some instructions to come up with four activities they would all like to do for the next few days.

Make a rainy day list of the things you can do, harder this year with covid but bowling alleys etc are now open at long last. Enjoy being outside as soon as the weather brightens.

Remember you will need to do something with them at home too.
The weather has been good this year, you have been really unlucky.

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 17/08/2020 07:54

Aw sorry OP, I'd go home.

This is EXACTLY why we go abroad for holidays. Everyone goes on and on about holidaying in UK but this is why- you can spend hundreds (or thousands) on a holiday, only to be stuck indoors for two weeks with nothing to do due to the shit weather.

Of course, weather isnt guaranteed abroad but chances of sun and good weather are much, MUCH more likely and ive never had bad weather abroad. When youre spending a lot of money, its not unreasonable to not want to sit indoors 24/7.

lynsey91 · 17/08/2020 08:03

I'd come home. Holidays in the rain are not fun especially if lots of places are closed.

There have been a few threads where posters have said they are booking holidays for the UK and even if the weather is not good they will enjoy going for lovely walks. I posted saying me and DH like going to castles, gardens, museums, stately homes and if they are not open or have to be pre-booked and we can't get booked then we don't see the point of going away.

We are not going to pay to sit in someone else's property when we have a perfectly decent house, tv with sky and netflix, comfortable bed and good shower.

If we really wanted to go for walks in the rain we can do so from home

cptartapp · 17/08/2020 08:03

We've just had last week camping in Wales with teens, and apart from a thunderstorm or two at night, luckily the weather was amazing. Hot, sunny and humid.
We love our foreign holidays though so this was a gamble, and I did say to DH that rain would have completely changed the outcome.
I feel for you. Despite a great week, we'll be off abroad again as soon as we can.

oakleaffy · 17/08/2020 08:06

@Hellokitty82

My neighbours have just come back early from camping the weather was awful and 3 kids under 11 in a caravan was dreadful. I greeted them with a chilled bottle of wine and as we'd been looking after the house I had a roast dinner waiting for them

She cried and said it was the best part of her "holiday"

It was an expensive site, indoor pool and gym closed, nothing to do in bad weather and horrible noisy people

Cut your losses and go home what's the point in being miserable

Want to be my neighbour??? 😂
AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 17/08/2020 08:08

Yeah, they are fooling themselves. Noone goes on a "lovely walk" in torrential rain/lashing wind. I live right near an area of outstanding natural beauty and when its pissing it down, you do NOT see people strolling around joyously having a "lovely walk". Thats because its simply not enjoyable - also not talking light rain here, I mean lashing rain where you look like youve stepped into your shower fully clothed.

Stircrazyschoolmum · 17/08/2020 08:10

We are just back from Pembrokeshire, we had a mixed bag of weather but some really sunny days and in general it was mild even if cloudy.

My teen got totally addicted to bodyboarding if you are anywhere near the coast. Wetsuits are relatively inexpensive to buy and make a big difference. Trampoline parks are open. (bounce below and the caves in north wales are good, hangar 5 in Pembs quite quiet last week) Cinema poss a last resort?

We’ve come home early before so I get where you are at. However, like pp have said, the weather can change v quickly!

oakleaffy · 17/08/2020 08:12

@annie987

Have NEVER known a place as wet as Wales.

Wales do rain that is horizontal...One was a riding break, and even the horse hated it, I think- Having the rain at your back is one thing- but facing it... Wretched.

Proper, breathable wet weather gear wasn't thought of then, so it was a cold, claggy miserable time- but the Scenery was beautiful.
Wales is beautiful, but wet.

In a caravan, you'll not dry out properly, either.

The noisy 'neighbours' would be it for me...I'd be going home if that wet and miserable.

This. A hundred times this.

Exactly like stepping into a power shower. Soaked to the gussets.

Not talking a gentle mizzle, but a full on powerful rain with a gale behind it. Even goretex has a hard time with that.

Rain at your back isn't so bad. but you have to turn round and face it.

HoppyHop · 17/08/2020 08:20

If you're not enjoying it go home. There's no point struggling on if you've all had enough. Nothing worse than a very wet holiday with teens.

But just saying we got back last night from a week in north west wales and it was the best week for the weather that we've had there for years. 25degrees most days. Beach everyday. A few excellent storms in the evening too. (For those that say wales is always wet!).

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 17/08/2020 08:25

Head home if you are unhappy.

We are going to Pembrokeshire on Friday, we do live in Wales though so rain is the norm for us. We are going to Bluestone though so will have the pool and the Serendome to use if it is wet.
