Like, what foods are so calorific / full of fat but you didn’t realise and now think are not worth eating?

Didn’t realise quiche was so bad now I’m never eating it again!!

Tomatoes!

They are not calorific. And indeed they are said to be very good for you. But ..... they are the food of Satan and are never worth eating. Ever Shock

Happynow001 · 15/08/2020 14:12

@Chanjer

Findus crispy pancakes

Even if they actually gave you calories back they still wouldn't be worth eating

Disgusting

Oh I remember those in the days I'd just left home and living in digs. Also Fray Bentos meat pies with the undersides of the flakey pastry soggy though the top was cooked... 🤢
Dohorseseatapples · 15/08/2020 14:15

It’s only when you cook/bake things yourself that you realise how much butter, sugar cream etc things contain!
Quiche, cake, biscuits... fat, sugar and not much else!

Tlollj · 15/08/2020 14:20

Alcohol for me total waste of calories.

TinySongstress · 15/08/2020 14:32

Pringles are one of the worst crisps per fat/calorie wise.

Centaurpede · 15/08/2020 14:36

Milkshake! I love milkshake and will have one occasionally if I have a takeaway but I can't buy any to have at home. Gone in minutes and hundreds of calories!

Piglet89 · 15/08/2020 14:42

OMG the carb thing. I know if you cut refined carbs you lose weight but honestly, life is so miserable without them.

I’m addicted to carbs. I’m not overweight tho so maybe I don’t need to worry...yet.

I have just finished watching the Hillary Clinton documentary on Sky and it goes over her whole life. Her changing shape and middle-aged spread was notable (though obviously by no means the most remarkable thing about that documentary!) : I would say she was naturally slim when she was younger but I think once you hit middle age it’s so much harder to stay slim.

I’m dreading it happening to me. And then all I will be able to eat is fucking mackerel and broccoli and kale and no cake or white bread like Michael Moseley and his bloody “lose a stone in 21 days” where refined carbs are the devil and his wife shows you how to make a “pizza” out of those bloody huge mushrooms, but she looks a bit like an ironing board, like she’s never had an ounce of fun in her life and I just want to yell “no!!!!! Eat a sandwich, woman!!!!!!”

PHEW. Maybe rage keeps me slim.

JoeCalFuckingZaghe · 15/08/2020 14:50

Fat and Calories are not the enemy. You need them for your basic bodily functions. One slice of quiche isn't going to make you fat. Over indulgence will though.

So true! I kid myself I make it healthier by putting in, like 10g less sugar than it says....

I'm deliberately not looking at the nutritional value of Mini Cheddars...

Damascena · 15/08/2020 15:35

The worst food in the world is five year out of date tinned asparagus. Trust me.
I bloody love quiche though.

EmJay19 · 15/08/2020 19:49

Peas? I had no idea 😔
To some pp I know what a balanced meal is but my point is I don’t LOVE quiche so won’t bother with it now I know it’s so bad. Quiche is dead to me. Chips on the other hand, I know are bad but love them so eat them often!

I’d also add shop bought sausage rolls and pastry things. They are nice enough, not great but ok and are bursting with calories.

A nice home made sausage roll might be worth the calories, but a Greggs one certainly isn’t!

Angelina82 · 15/08/2020 20:59

Whatever you enjoy eating you can bet your arse is the most calorific, unless you’re a rabbit/tortoise or something like that.

Skyliner001 · 15/08/2020 21:38

Dips are pretty bad, and easy to eat loads of

gretagreengrapes · 15/08/2020 21:43

Croissants!

I've never eaten one since I saw how they are made on a school trip. I also once read that one croissant has the same amount of butter as 17 slices of toast! I've no idea how true and obviously depends on the croissant size, but it's believable.

They are absolutely worth the calories😁
Eatyourbanana · 15/08/2020 22:14

Full fat coke. Why? When you have Coke Zero & diet. waiting for someone to tell me they’re worse CaUsE SwEeTnEr

I also thought quiche was healthy, so proud of my DD for wolfing down a big slice Blush

boltzmannbrains · 15/08/2020 22:15

Michael Moseley and his bloody “lose a stone in 21 days”

I hate that show. The scene where the woman was baking chocolate chip cookies with her young son, going on about how she wasn’t allowed to have even a single taste, and the child piping up how she wasn’t allowed them. Not exactly instilling a healthy attitude towards food in an impressionable young child, is it?

I also thought making out the woman who has vertigo is unhealthy because she couldn’t do the balance challenge was ableist and unkind.

boltzmannbrains · 15/08/2020 22:16

That just makes me think that turning down a croissant is a red light to eating 17 pieces of toast. Grin

Porcupineinwaiting · 16/08/2020 14:40

@Eatyourbanana quiche is a perfectly fine part of a balanced diet and esp good for children who need calories to grow. Just serve it with vegetables/salad rather than a bowl of chips.

Lelophants · 16/08/2020 16:05

I really think there should be a trigger warning for eating disorders on this thread..

gretagreengrapes · 16/08/2020 17:04

@SchrodingersImmigrant

I'd rather try the 17 slices of toast, feels like you're getting more for your money! Grin

Depends what bread it is😂 If it's normal white "bread" than I would rather chew my arm than eat 17 of them😂

CorianderLord · 16/08/2020 21:34

Gu pots are 400 calories. I knew they were bad, but not that bad. That's what I eat for a whole meal!

Porcupineinwaiting · 16/08/2020 22:40

A bit of googling suggests an unbuttered croissant has the calorific equivalent of only 2 pieces of toast.
