Like, what foods are so calorific / full of fat but you didn’t realise and now think are not worth eating?

Didn’t realise quiche was so bad now I’m never eating it again!!

I agree - cake- especially cup cakes with all that shit on top.
So sweet it sets my teeth on edge.

Glamazoni · 14/08/2020 21:40

Reminds me of a lady I know called “Barbara” who joined a slimming group. Each week they took turns to bake a diet treat for everyone to eat at the meeting. When it was Barbara’s turn she baked a quiche. All of the dieters were filling their faces and making yum noises, and the group leader said “Well done Barbara, it’s delicious! Can you share the recipe?” Barbara said “Erm... eggs, butter, cream, flour, lard”... She totally had not understood that it was supposed to be a low calorie treat and had just made a full fat quiche. Apparently as she read out the ingredients these ladies slowly turned pale and started spitting out bits of quiche into their hankies 😂

Longdistance · 14/08/2020 21:43

I don’t drink full fat coke, but really I can feel the sugar sticking to my teeth.
I cut the fat off of the bacon, horrible stuff.
I don’t buy take away pizza. Not only is it greasy but bloody expensive for a bit of cheap dough with tomato, cheese and whatever else on top.

Tunnocks34 · 14/08/2020 21:50

You know what I actually don’t know of any foods which are so High in fat I wouldn’t eat them if I fancied them!

My personal worst food is prawns. Vile.

EmJay19 · 14/08/2020 21:58

@Glamazoni too funny 😂 🤣😂🤣

Fat makes you thin and sugar makes you fat, so things like iced cakes are the worst. Quiche is absolutely fine if you make it with less pastry. It’s not about calories so much as how your body responds to those calories metabolically. Fat/protein is very satiating, so you eat just the right amount. Carbs drive the hunger hormone ghrelin in ever increasing amounts, so your “off” switch gets broken.

Pacif1cDogwood · 14/08/2020 22:01

There is no such thing as a bad food.
There's too much of something or another.
There's food high in calories/low in nutrients.

Food is more than just nutrition, it's also enjoyment and a social experience.

Quiche is delicious and no worse for you than anything else. Have a slice. With a green salad. You'll be grand.
Don't have the whole quiche. With chips. Every day. Grin

AliceAbsolum · 14/08/2020 22:07

Peas

Audreyhelp · 14/08/2020 22:21

Coleslaw

Porcupineinwaiting · 14/08/2020 22:26

Fish in batter from the chippy. I now have it once a year. But in general I am more careful of carbs than fats.

Not exactly what you asked but I was proper horrified when I found out how many calories were in things like chai latte.

dwiz8 · 14/08/2020 23:16

Biscuits - I can never just have one, a chocolate digestive is like 89 calories each. I can easily eat 10-15 - for that amount of calories I could have a McDonald's!

Also takeaway pizza. Per slice of a large cheese and tomato pizza at dominos etc. is over 300 calories and again most (and me) will have more than one or two slices.

We now stick to oven pizza, still not healthy but a lot more calorie control

recklessruby · 14/08/2020 23:28

Shocked at the calories on those supermarket sandwiches. 440 for an egg and cress tasteless one, 600 for some and they dont fill you up.
Emma s country cakes are a favourite in my school staff room but sadly one cupcake has nearly 400 calories and they are gorgeous.
I want take away pizza now

blue25 · 14/08/2020 23:34

Not too worried about fat, but I do watch sugar & carb intake. I realised my favourite granola is 25% sugar, so have ditched it!

MitziK · 14/08/2020 23:46

Anything prefixed with 'Dirty'. It just means it's full of grease to make it slide down as quickly as possible, will coat your fingers, face and furnishings with semi permanent stains and will ultimately disappoint you because it's just cheap shit with cheap gloop added to disguise the taste and texture.

Porcupineinwaiting · 14/08/2020 23:54

@MitziK "dirty" ? Never come across that, sounds intriguing. Example please.

Tillygetsit · 14/08/2020 23:58

Fat on meat. I know that's supposed to be where the flavour is but YUK!

frustrationcentral · 15/08/2020 00:25

@BitchTitties

See, if it’s really calorific but delicious then I’ll have a portion but pad out the meal with a big salad for tiny calories. So it balances out but it still fills me up
I do the same. I can't totally take anything out of my diet as I'll end up craving it ( and gorging on it) so I feel it's better to have a small bit with a salad or vegetables
frustrationcentral · 15/08/2020 00:27

I can only think of dirty fries? Think they're covered in cheese and bacon?

PomBearWithoutHerOFRS · 15/08/2020 00:51

Caviar! It tastes like semen and has the texture of spots popping in one's mouth. I would rather eat deep fried lard quiche.

MsEllany · 15/08/2020 01:02

@isseywith4vampirecats

cant think of any food i wouldnt eat because of its fat content
^^ this.

You don’t hone a body like this on making sensible eating choices! Grin

(But also, all joking aside, if I wasn’t fat a little bit of everything is fine)

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 15/08/2020 01:06

Homemade quiche is worth every g of fat! Although I've never put milk or cream in it Confused. I do use a lot of cheese though.

bubblebubblebubbletrouble · 15/08/2020 01:06

Peas - green evil balls. They are the worst food.
In terms of calorific foods that are even less healthy than you expect - stollen

Peas are full of protein though! Though being in the peanut family that makes sense.
Shiraznowplease · 15/08/2020 01:16

Houmous- I adore it, with veg, falafel, wraps whatever but really high in fat. It is my kryptonite!!

Taste wise... liver🤮 (even the smell turns me), celery and olives

mrbob · 15/08/2020 01:18

@thistimelastweek

Deep fried pizza?
This is totally worth the calories
