Those who conceived naturally after a year?

iswhois · 14/08/2020 11:54

can I hear some stories please? Coming up to the year mark now and not keen to push on to IVF straight away really.

Got tested in February and all ok with me, husband having SA in September.

I just wanted some real experiences from people who took a bit longer but still managed it naturally

Thanks Smile

First time 2 months. Lost the baby then about 14 months.
Then about 9 months the next time.
Then 6 months and lost the baby.

My sister conceived naturally after 3 years. She had accepted she wasn't going to have a child by that point. She was 40 so a nice surprise.

Jenny3141 · 14/08/2020 11:59

I started TTC in September 2018 , periods didn't restart when I stopped taking the pill so went for fertility investigations ,eventually started Clomid in January to induce ovulation which worked until I had an early miscarriage at 6 weeks but then 5 weeks later , with no more drugs or treatment as I'd had to wait for 6 weeks after the miscarriage I found out I was pregnant again this time naturally, and now I'm 26 weeks

So it took a while , and all the stress of fertility treatment and the miscarriage but it came naturally in the end, although there must have been a lot of luck involved

Emeraldshamrock · 14/08/2020 11:59

It took us over a year for two pregnancies. I think it was 18 month's with DD our first stressing really doesn't help though it is understandable I thought it will never happen on my first.

Emeraldshamrock · 14/08/2020 12:02

I know two couples who conceived naturally within months of giving birth to their first baby with the help of fertility treatment on the first. The pressure was off.

AriettyHomily · 14/08/2020 12:03

18 months but I didn't even track my cycles.

HellsBills · 14/08/2020 12:05

About 14 months for first one. Second baby conceived without trying sadly miscarried. Third pregnancy also happened very quickly and all went well. My sister in law was the same. My best friend was 18 months. For my circle of friends it's not unusual to take more than 12 months. We were all mid 30s which may be relevant.

Nichola2310 · 14/08/2020 12:08

I'd love to hear positive stories too. It took me 2 months to conceive my son, and I'm 10 cycles into trying for a 2nd baby with no luck.

We saw a consultant to said to give it to Christmas and then see if we want to consider IVF but I'm almost 37 and my DH is 44, so we don't want to leave it too long.

RuthW · 14/08/2020 12:09

A year of trying, a year of fertility treatment and then got pregnant during the year to think about the next steps.

Broomfondle · 14/08/2020 12:24

Conceived naturally after well over a year, found out the day before our fertility clinic apt. All went well and now expecting number 2 which happened quicker than 1 bit still longer than it seems most people take!
But it's much more common than it feels to take a year or more.

iswhois · 14/08/2020 12:30

Thanks for sharing.

It is a bit daunting especially with all the statistics thrown at you about the vast majority conceiving within a year! Makes you feel like you're the only one!

About 20 months. DH checked out and Dr cancelled my appointment to start investigations as he was going on holiday. Told me to call when I got my period again. It came after DS was born!

orangeicecream · 14/08/2020 12:37

Took 16 perfectly timed and tracked cycles to conceive my DS.... No issues on either side

3 months after DS born and one wine too many.... Bang DD was conceived.

Good luck.

SallyLovesCheese · 14/08/2020 12:37

It took us 19 months to conceive the first time, miscarried. Then another 5 months to conceive again (successful birth). I had acupuncture after my mc and firmly believe that helped.

Crazycakelady17 · 14/08/2020 12:39

Ds1 was a happy surprise ds2 took 18 months dd took 4 years no rhyme not reason we were relatively young and very healthy
Good luck

DratThatCat · 14/08/2020 12:42

15 months the first time, I didn't track cycles or anything, just thought if it happens it happens. 2nd dc conceived the first time we had sex without using protection. It was only 9 months after having 1st dc, maybe thats why it was so easy. Good luck. I think its pretty common to not conceive within the first year.

Strangestthings · 14/08/2020 12:43

About 18 months with my first. Was just beginning to investigate medically when I found out I was pregnant. I was 30 though so age was on my side. If I was older, I may have investigated earlier. With my second, we got pregnant first try.

LuxyHugs · 14/08/2020 12:44

4 and a bit years of trying in total. 6 months of trying ended in a miscarriage at 12 weeks. Then nearly 4 years of nothing at all. Then we were going to start the IVF journey, and fell pregnant naturally all of a sudden. He is nearly 2 years old now.

22Giraffes · 14/08/2020 12:45

18 months for my 1st child
12 months for my 2nd, had booked into see GP about potential fertility check up and then got positive test just before the appointment!

AGreatUsername · 14/08/2020 12:47

We conceived after a year and being told we’d need IVR. Both had kids already, never an issue getting pregnant.

We did everything right for a year, after about 8 months we asked for tests and it came back that DH had very very low sperm something or other. I forget now. Numbers and mobility were fine but the nicely formed ones were rare. The doctors told us it was likely we’d need IVR to conceive and off we went to grieve. We sent an email to a private fertility clinic, then about a week later discovered I was pregnant! The private clinic actually came back to us later and said they’d be very surprised if the results were accurate as DH had kids previously, they think he may have had a knock or injury and not noticed which affected his production for a while.

That was our only baby so we’ve never found out for sure if that was the case but it certainly felt a bit miraculous to us.

MeredithJim · 14/08/2020 12:47

Took me about 3 years and then I conceived twins

Youvegotafriendinme · 14/08/2020 12:48

Took 15 months to conceive DS. Then 2 months but ended in MMC. Then another 16 months to conceive this time. Currently 14w.
Neither of us had any additional testing and had decided if it hadn’t happened by 2 years we would have.

OneIsAWorldOfBooks · 14/08/2020 12:54

Currently 37 weeks pregnant. We tried for 2.5 years with various investigations and some meds to try and regulate my cycles. Decided to stop trying and got the coil fitted. I had it removed after 6 months due to the side effects and we figured we didn’t need to be too careful with contraception, was pregnant within a month marking 3 years since we initially started ttc.

1point21gigawatts · 14/08/2020 12:56

I conceived first month without contraception, but sadly had a tfmr due to trisomy 18.
Then nothing for 18 months. I bought a clear blue ovulation tracker, had acupuncture and used pre-seed. After 3 months of acupuncture and in the second month of the clear blue tracker I was pregnant. She is now 9! I had to call the gp and cancel fertility investigations.

grey12 · 14/08/2020 12:56

First baby took about 8/10 months. DH ended up going for a semen test because we got worried (one of his uncles has fertility issues)

I think what happened with us was that we were relying on the phone app tracker and my ovulation seems to come a few days earlier than normal.

I would suggest you get a pack of really cheap ovulation pee sticks online and check everyday around ovulation.

Good luck!
