I'm in London and it's 29°C in my flat at the moment, with the air conditioning on. We only moved here a few months ago and I don't know why it's so hot indoors. Is it normal for it to be like 5°C hotter indoors than outside in this weather? Sorry if this is a stupid question.

I feel awful and my cat was ill anyway but I'm sure this heat will kill him our flat is so hot. I feel really bad for him but I can't do anything other than keep icing him down and keeping the AC on which isn't making any difference seemingly. Sad

In my house, it's 68°F (20°C). That's with the A/C. Outdoors right now it's 89°F (32°C). So not really hot hot, just warm.

timeforawine · 13/08/2020 18:26

York, managed to get it to 22, had all windows and doors open

gubbbbbddaaaa · 13/08/2020 18:28

MaxNormal · 13/08/2020 18:28

23.5 in Scotland. I've got a cardigan on though.

HelloCanYouHearMe · 13/08/2020 18:29

Yesterday the thermostat was reading 29.5... Today, the thermostat has stopped working

justasking111 · 13/08/2020 18:30

27c indoors and out. I would check your air con is powerful enough or defective.

londewy123 · 13/08/2020 18:31

28 today in our flat. It was 30 yesterday! (Greater London).

Ffsnosexallowed · 13/08/2020 18:32

No idea what temp in our house is, I'd guess around 22 . Do you close your curtains during the day to keep the sun out?

Wtfdidwedo · 13/08/2020 18:32

My living room was 31 yesterday in South Wales with all windows and patio door open. The rest of the house is normally about 2 degrees cooler. It's been about 28 most of today.

HaudMaDug · 13/08/2020 18:32

SE Scotland not sure what temp it is outside as its flippin' cold but inside its 25 beside my roaring fireplace.

Pinkflipflop85 · 13/08/2020 18:33

Our little gro egg currently reads at 31.5.

It needs to hurry up and rain here!

BluebellsareBlue · 13/08/2020 18:33

Outdoor temp is about 18, indoor prob about 15, I've got a cardigan on and a cosy cover, east coast Scotland

Toothsil · 13/08/2020 18:34

23 degrees, north east coast (England). We don't have air conditioning but live in an old house with really thick walls which is normally very cool in summer, and freezing in winter. I've no idea what's going on this year!

imnottoofussed · 13/08/2020 18:35

25.5 indoors Greater Manchester. According to the weather app it's 21 degrees outside

BelieveInPeople · 13/08/2020 18:35

Near Newcastle and I’m a bit chilly, 19 degrees inside with all the doors and windows closed, we’re stuck under a cloud here

RedTitsMcGinty · 13/08/2020 18:36

London. Red brick, south-facing flat. Currently 29.9 inside.

AgeLikeWine · 13/08/2020 18:36

22.5c in Leicestershire. The temperature inside my house peaked at 25.5 yesterday afternoon. I kept the curtains closed all day on the sunny side of the house, on the basis that this is what people in hot countries do. It definitely helps.

unmarkedbythat · 13/08/2020 18:37

25 according to the thermostat in the living room. A breeze is coming in so it feels really cool. Just on the edge of Manchester. It's much, much cooler than yesterday and earlier today; we went to Reddish Vale yesterday and my phone said it was 33 degrees, there was no breeze at all and the air felt thick.

aLilNonnyMouse · 13/08/2020 18:37

Mine is 27c currently, that's with windows open. Outdoor temp is 24c.

It's always hotter inside than outside in my flat. Even in the depth of winter it never drops below 17c. People and animals kick out heat constantly, having my TV on raises the inside temp by 1c easily and there are lots of other heat generating electronics. Add in how houses in the UK have a massive focus on insulation to keep in heat for winter and you end up with really hot houses during summer.

I think AC is finally going to start appearing in new builds soon as summers are only getting hotter.

As for the cat - make sure it has lots of water available and top it up with cool but not freezing water on a regular basis. also make sure there is some shade for it to sleep in. I've got 3 myself and they are coping ok with that.

lachy · 13/08/2020 18:38

16° In our bedroom (air con). The rest of the house is probably 20°

We had a storm yesterday which took the heat down, it didn't do a lot for the humidity though.

ElizabethMainwaring · 13/08/2020 18:39

Derby. 25

KingOfDogShite · 13/08/2020 18:39

24 inside 21 outside.

Meggie2008 · 13/08/2020 18:41

24 in my living room in SW Scotland.
22 outside apparently.

QueenCT · 13/08/2020 18:45

If you've got a gel pack or hot water bottle, freeze it then wrap in a tea towel or get a cool mat for cat. Don't worry too much, I'm sat in front of a fan melting and my cat is snoring in his fur bed Confused

TheCanyon · 13/08/2020 18:47

Says it's 24 but I reckon that's nowhere near true. I've got my cost jammies on...
