Would you feel safe enough going to the cinema now, alone or with children?

We did drive in. Discounted if NHS. DD enjoyed it.

steff13 · 13/08/2020 09:32

I went a couple weeks ago. I'm in Ohio. We had to wear a mask until we got to our seats. It was dead in there. We saw 1917, it was good.

FourEyesGood · 13/08/2020 09:33

I’ve booked to see Tenet on Weds 26th. In don’t even especially want to see that film, but I really miss the cinema. I’ll be going on my own (my favourite way to go to the cinema).

Brendabigbaps · 13/08/2020 09:34

We’ve been twice to see kids films.
Only one other family in each time, foyer empty.
All staff wore masks, one way system in place, hand sanitizer etc.
We would only go to the showcase tho as they have huge chairs and plenty of space between rows unlike cineworld.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 13/08/2020 09:38

No, I’d do a drive through if there was on local but wouldn’t do an indoor cinema at present even with SD. Too many conflicting reports about how long the virus stays airbourne and how far it can spread.

We just do movie nights at home via new subscriptions which works out better value and more choice plus no set times than adhere too.

Lazypuppy · 13/08/2020 09:40

I was going to before we had to wear masks there. So now i won't.

Not about feeling safe, as i have no major worries there but i hate masks, so i'll go to the minimal number of places i have to wear them.

Lucindainthesky · 13/08/2020 09:41

God no. Transmission happens indoors and I can watch films at home. The cinema experience really isn't worth the risk to me.

greensnail · 13/08/2020 09:42

We've been, it was the showcase so big seats and normally feel spaced out, but currently even more so. It felt very safe, much more social distancing there than in shops and restaurants. Plus it was really cheap compared to normal prices.

millymollymoomoo · 13/08/2020 09:45

Well to answer your AIBU yes I feel safe
Would I go? No as I dont want to sit in a mask for hours - totally spoils it. If I could go with no mask then I’d happily go with my children

LaurieFairyCake · 13/08/2020 09:48

Yes, you're at least a meter away from people (more like 3)

LaurieFairyCake · 13/08/2020 09:49

You don't wear a mask in your seat

angelofthelight · 13/08/2020 09:50

I went on Tuesday with the kids and I felt completely safe. Only wore masks in the foyer and walking to our seats. Didn't wear them when watching the film. It was very empty.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 13/08/2020 09:55

No way if you have to wear a mask throughout the film. I hate shopping in supermarkets now, walking through a hot, sweaty blur with steamed-up glasses, having to grope around and kneel down right in front of shelves to be able to remove my glasses and see the items - and then getting told off for not following arrows and signs that I simply cannot see.

I'm not going to pay good money to sit in a dark room, breathing uncomfortably and listening to a film whilst watching steam for two hours - not when I can sit at home in comfort and watch TV or use my laptop free of (additional) charge.

AudacityOfHope · 13/08/2020 09:56

No, I wouldn't.

cherrybakewells3 · 13/08/2020 09:57

Me too. I would of definitely went before this while sitting in the cinema with a mask on was enforced and everywhere else! I couldn't think of anything worse now.
WonderWebbs · 13/08/2020 09:59

Went with my DD and felt safe. Wore masks on the way in and took them off for the film, same as a restaurant. When you book all done electronically so no manual tickets and they automatically leave a seat free between groups. Probably had one or two groups per row so not busy.

nagynolonger · 13/08/2020 09:59

No for me it is an unnecessary extra risk. I enjoy going in normal times but not now. I can live without cinema, theatre, museums and pubs.

I would consider an outside performance.

Sparklesocks · 13/08/2020 09:59

I think it depends on how big the screen room is and how many people were in there. If it was a large room with people heavily spaced out then I would feel comfortable, but less so if it was one of the smaller ones with more people.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 13/08/2020 10:00

Ah, thanks to the PPs for clarifying that masks don't have to be worn once seated. All I heard was 'masks have to be worn in cinemas'.

The government need to be very careful when issuing confusing blanket statements, especially when it deters people from patronising businesses that are now on their knees.

Sparklesocks · 13/08/2020 10:02

Also there haven’t been any films out since cinemas reopened that have tempted me back yet, but tenet may change that.

steff13 · 13/08/2020 10:02

I also used the ladies' room while I was there, and it was spotless and the smell of bleach just about knocked me over. They're definitely keeping it clean.

HermioneWeasley · 13/08/2020 10:05

Have been to showcase. It was very clean and felt very safe. Only a few other people in the same screen as us

Shoxfordian · 13/08/2020 10:06

Wouldn't feel unsafe but not that into the cinema so probably wouldn't go

velourvoyageur · 13/08/2020 10:07

I’ve been three times in the last three weeks, and am so happy to have it back! The last time everyone wore masks and there were no more than 10 people each time, very spread out.
Lots of sanitiser available everywhere too.

LakieLady · 13/08/2020 10:08

Yes, but our lovely independent, run by a community asset trust, hasn't reopened yet.

I don't like going to other cinemas now, I've been spoilt by its really comfy seats, spacious auditorium, superb quality sound and the fact that you can buy drinks at the bar and take them in. It's so nice to sit in a cinema sharing a bottle of wine, and the seats have a bit at the side for you to stand the bottle in!
