In England face coverings must be worn unless eating and drinking

help.odeon.co.uk/hc/en-gb/articles/360014729559-Face-Coverings

When seated in the auditorium you will be socially distant from other guests, and you may remove your face covering to enjoy food and drinks.

MorbidMuch · 13/08/2020 12:16

I went to Cineworld this week and felt very safe. On their rules you keep a mask on unless you are eating or drinking.

"In line with government guidelines, face coverings must be worn in the cinema but can be removed when eating and drinking."

You can only book seats with two empty seats between you and another booking. There was a one way system with staff members letting us out of the fire exit at the end of the film. It felt very clean. Limited numbers in the toilets and alternate cubicles / sinks blocked off. There were very few people in the screening I was at.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 13/08/2020 12:18

I thought the rule was you had to wear a mask in the auditorium unless you were eating?

I think it is - but given that few seem to observe the guidelines, and the vast numbers of people that seem to thing wearing a mask means draping it around your neck, I can't see anyone prowling round a cinema in the dark to ascertain and enforce that people wear them.

dwiz8 · 13/08/2020 12:24

I did when ours first opened but won't now as they are asking for masks to stay on during the film and I can't stand wearing it for too long

KeepingPlain · 13/08/2020 12:34

Nope. Not going again until a vaccine is made.

JovialNickname · 13/08/2020 12:35

No, I love the cinema but won't go now that masks are mandated. I go to the pictures for a bit of escapism, not to be brought back to reality every time I breathe in or out because of the sweaty piece of fabric over my face. No fun would prefer to sit at home and watch the telly!

Megnificent · 13/08/2020 12:36

I loathe wearing masks, so I won’t go to the cinema. My local is Cineworld and their info says you must wear a mask unless eating and drinking, so nope, I won’t go. I go to the cinema for enjoyment, and I can’t see much enjoyment from that.

I’ve actually just cancelled my Unlimited membership - I used to go every week.

Runbitchrun · 13/08/2020 12:48

Yes, and I have been in the last week.

melj1213 · 13/08/2020 13:06

I dont feel unsafe going to the cinema but at the moment my local cinema is only showing old films, it's a faff with the social distancing rules etc and not worth the effort.

Why would I spend £10 for 2 tickets to sit in a dark room in a mask with a load of other people to see an old Disney movie when I already pay £6pm for Disney+ so can watch it mask free in my living room with the curtains shut?

Even if you dont want to buy streaming services permanently, £6 for Disney+ or Netflix for a month, or NowTVs movie pass (which I think is £12 for a month) that you cancel after the initial month means you can watch unlimited movies at home for 4 weeks without the faff of the cinema for the same price as cinema tickets for a single film (or even for cheaper if you have a larger family/more expensive cinema tickets)

SengaStrawberry · 13/08/2020 13:07

I’d feel safe enough, but I’m not undertaking any leisure activities which requires wearing a mask.

islockdownoveryet · 13/08/2020 13:11

Yes I've been it was fine and you don't have to wear your mask watching the film .
Tbh if you don't feel comfortable don't go like anything.

Juiceey · 13/08/2020 15:16

We've been a few times in the last few weeks. I love the cinema and have Cineworld Unlimited memberships.

I don't wear the mask once in my seat though. I buy a drink and some snacks.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 13/08/2020 15:22

I've been, it's fine.

Angel2702 · 13/08/2020 15:23

No we are avoiding enclosed places as much as possible. Especially as they are only showing old films we can watch at home.

PablosHoney · 13/08/2020 15:25

Yes and there were very few people in there and they were nowhere near us.

LaPoesieEstDansLaRue · 13/08/2020 15:25

In theory I would go, but only if it was a film I/DC really wanted to see, as wearing a mask for that length of time does put me off (despite it being me necessary). But our local cinema seems to be mostly showing repeats of old films at the moment, so probably won't go for a while.

PablosHoney · 13/08/2020 15:27

I watched Sonic with DS whilst my DD’s watched My Spy, this was when cinemas first reopened and didn’t require masks

Fairyliz · 13/08/2020 15:30

Yes went on Tuesday to the evening showing of American Pickle, there were 8 people in large cinema.

CherieBabySpliffUp · 13/08/2020 15:30

Are you in England? I thought the government said you had to wear masks in cinemas now?
Fatted · 13/08/2020 15:31

I'd go if decent films were on!

islockdownoveryet · 13/08/2020 21:14

Yes you do but once you sit down and watch the film you don't need to . The cinema hardly anyone in anyway I'd say 5 or 6 others watching the film so a lot more than 2 meters away .
Walking around before and after you do .
Masks are only necessary anyway if social distancing can't be done .

Takingabreakagain · 13/08/2020 21:24

I had planned to go once they reopened but then the requirement to wear masks was brought in and now I won't be going. I find masks uncomfortable to wear so that would take away the enjoyment of being at the cinema.

noswaith · 13/08/2020 21:38

I have been, alone. Five people in a cinema with 28 seats. A whole row for me though I sat in my designated seat.

GoingBackTo505 · 13/08/2020 21:43

Definitely. Really hoping the new James Bond will still be out this year. I can't wait for normal life to be back.

Clickncollect · 13/08/2020 21:47

Just got back from watching Elvis:That’s the way it is concert at a Cineworld cinema. There were two seat spaces between groups and everyone was wearing mask unless eating.
Only problem was my mask kept slipping as I tried to sing along to the songs!
