To think this is not right. Salad with gravy!

Went out for dinner tonight and ordered sausage and mash from the menu. It said it came with garden peas, but mentioned nothing about salad.

This is gross right?

That's absolutely vile! With Lasagne? Sure! But gravy?!?! Ew!

Does the chef think it's a master chef classic?

Domestic boar rolliche with butter pomme purée served au boeuf jus with with a side of cucurbit, French leaves and fresh vine tomatoes?

HouchinBawbags · 13/08/2020 07:36

I'd have sent it back and asked if I need to be worried that they'll serve ketchup with the apple pie for dessert!

Comtesse · 13/08/2020 07:38

Yanbu - salad and gravy is wrong.

PickAChew · 13/08/2020 07:41

Despite the time of day, I now have a compulsion to make up some bisto and dip some cucumber in it.miggt just stick to my muesli, mind.

Grilled tomatoes would be delicious with that meal but those just look cold and hard.

Jayaywhynot · 13/08/2020 07:44

I have salad and gravy usually with chicken and potatoes, didnt think it was weird until I served it to my son in law, he was horrified Grin its delish, dip your lettuce in the gravy yummy

SimonJT · 13/08/2020 07:48

Thats gross, surely you sent it back?

Ohtherewearethen · 13/08/2020 07:48

What the actual fuck? What goes through the mind of someone who would do this? What other questionable life choices have they made? I feel we need to stage some sort of intervention for this person.

BarbaraofSeville · 13/08/2020 07:51

That's totally wrong and I like lots of combos that most people think it wrong, eg lasagne and salad touching/mixed up, chips and gravy, but salad and gravy, no way.

Did you say anything?

Maybe it should have been carrots or cabbage and they'd run out. I once ordered a pizza that should have had peppers, onions, mushrooms and asparagus on it, but they'd substituted the asparagus for carrots.

I didn't say anything as the service had been very slow, it was late and I was starving and I didn't want them to take the pizza away, so I just ate it, the carrots weren't bad, as they were nicely sliced up and it sort of worked.

But I was a bit miffed as obviously carrots are far cheaper than asparagus. As this was in Malta, DP and I now jokingly refer to carrots as 'Maltese Asparagus'.

blacktop · 13/08/2020 07:52

I'm more bothered by the fact that they haven't cut the green bit off the top of the tomato. It's so basic. 'Chefs' who serve food so badly should be dishwashers, not Chefs. Food presentation? Sad

Ifailed · 13/08/2020 07:53

looks bad, but no worse than gravy on chips.

MrsMaglev · 13/08/2020 07:54

YANBU this is an affront to decency.

Felifox · 13/08/2020 07:55

I hope you sent it back! Grilled tomatoes and baked beans yes!.

Chanjer · 13/08/2020 08:01

I only ever send stuff back if we're leaving Grin

I'd have asked for a side plate and cleared it though

Very strange that someone that presumably cooks food for a living would do that, wtf else do they think is reasonable

bigbluebus · 13/08/2020 08:02

I like gravy on lots of things. I like lots of mayo on salad. In fact I like sauce rather than dry food but gravy on salad - just no.

HouchinBawbags · 13/08/2020 08:06

I've had some crackers of horrible meals made by our Uni friend who thought that there probably wasn't much difference between Passata and Ketchup (his "spaghetti Bolognese" was nasty!) but a paid chef should not be making errors like this. Really. I've worked in kitchens all my life and did once work for an arse of a boss who would always come out with, "These are friends of ours! Make it nice! Put a bit of kiwi on it!" As if kiwi on a salad garnish made it all fancy.

It didn't. It was pub grub and as such looked ridiculous.

Namechangearoo · 13/08/2020 08:07

@MordredsOrrery

2020 strikes again! That is an abomination - sorry it was actually your tea Sad
Really laughed at this!
Wavescrashingonthebeach · 13/08/2020 08:08

@BarbaraofSeville

Chips and gravy i would say more people like than dislike for sure. I dont understand how anyone can not love chips and gravy!

Ohtherewearethen · 13/08/2020 08:18

@Wavescrashingonthebeach - that is one thing I wish I could tolerate but just can't. Chips should be crisp and dry not soggy and mushy after being covered in gravy. Gives me the shudders.

IsAnybodyListening · 13/08/2020 08:21

Did you not send that back? No way would I have paid for that. I don't think there has been anyone in the history of mankind that would make themselves a salad, then think, oh, missing the bisto gravy.

stayathomer · 13/08/2020 08:23

That's an abomination!!!!! Gravy only with potatoes and meat. Only!!

JoeCalFuckingZaghe · 13/08/2020 08:26

That is an abomination!

TimeTruthandHearts · 13/08/2020 08:27

I think that plate has been a victim of the Eat Out To Help Out curse.

Thursday -Sunday I bet you get an extra sausage and no sad salad

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 13/08/2020 08:29

@Ohtherewearethen

Oh i dont like the soggy ones either. I get my chips nice and crispy in the air fryer then thick gravy added at the last second and they are inhaled before they go soggy Grin

CherryValanc · 13/08/2020 08:33

Well, that's... different.

Is there any mash? I'm going to get my magnifying glass to recheck

stayathomer · 13/08/2020 08:51

CherryValanc I think it's under the, um, tomato!!!
