To be completely bored of the constant coverage of Harry and Meghan

It's just too much! Way too much media focus on a them and all their drama. There's a global pandemic, explosions, oil spills etc. etc. etc. There are so many more important things going on in the World than a bunch of over-priviledged plebs and their family drama. It's not interesting, it's not relevant to the rest of the World and it's not in any way beneficial to anyone to keep speculating about them. I get that some people may find it interesting but so interesting it dominates headlines for months on end?!?

I should point out, I'm moaning about the media's obsession rather than them as an individual couple; whilst I'm not a fan of theirs by any stretch, it's the ridiculous number of articles I've seen about them across different news sites that's bugging me. Surely there's not that much to say about them?!

We are back to the same issue now though! The paper published extracts of the letter. Meghan felt her copyright was breached. Meghan chose to sue. This is what brought her friends into it. Her choice. No-one is forced to issue proceedings (especially in relation to a carefully handwritten letter, shown in advance to several people, that Omid Scobie, biographer extraordinaire, said that Meghan always thought would eventually become public anyway).

LaurieMarlow · 12/08/2020 14:00

it seems they can do no wrong in your eyes

No. But much of the material levied against them is ridiculous.

Roussette · 12/08/2020 14:01

Totally disagree with this. Good on Harry getting out. We will look back on this time and be ashamed at how the press were allowed to treat them. Because not everyone feels like you Daisy

They are a couple of entitled idiots who do not know when they have got it good and just want more and more and more

What is it they want more of?

MouthBreathingRage · 12/08/2020 14:02

This event did somewhat change the nature of their press coverage.

They/she was having extremely negative press coverage long before Frogmore/deciding to leave the Royal lifestyle Hmm.

LaurieMarlow · 12/08/2020 14:02

Meghan’s copyright was breached and her friends were brought into it as part of the papers (shaky) defence.

Sorberret · 12/08/2020 14:03

MSN seem to have lots of articles- probably because there's a new book coming out

Serenster · 12/08/2020 14:05

Frogmore was due refurbishment, there are articles stating that, it was in a dodgy state, it was due to happen anyway.

I also hear that Royal Lodge Windsor was also in a dodgy state, after being largely untouched for 50 years while the Queen Mother used it as her Windsor residence until her death on 2002.

@LaurieMarlow you are wrong, but it's quite clear that you're not interested, so I'm leaving it now.

Roussette · 12/08/2020 14:07

Difference is Serenster M&H are paying back the refurbishment. PAndrew isn't.

Serenster · 12/08/2020 14:08

At least he and his family are living there!

Roussette · 12/08/2020 14:16

At least Frogmore is now refurbished and other Royals can use it, or H&M can when they pop back to the UK. !

AdaColeman · 12/08/2020 14:25

The way that the refurbishment costs of Frogmore Cottage are being repaid is that H&M pay a monthly rent on the property. They pay at a rate slightly higher than the commercial rent, and this excess is set against the sum they owe the taxpayer.
It will take them more than eleven years to pay back the whole amount.

Roussette · 12/08/2020 14:27

I wonder how Andrew is paying back his refurbishments given that he's left official duties too?

GetOffYourHighHorse · 12/08/2020 14:28

Imagine if Kate's pals got together and told all to a tabloid journalist and a book was released. Mind the old expression don't lower yourself to their level is very apt here, it's just all so childish and tacky. Fine, rightly demand privacy but why give friends the green light to breach everyone else's privacy telling tales?!! I mean the one about having to wait to choose a tiara, really??

C130 · 12/08/2020 14:30

@Serenster

Is now a good time to remind people that Kate spent tax payers money on moving a tennis court a few feet to one side to get a better view

It's an excellent time to remind us of that, as the only reason we know this is because Kate also got lambasted in the press for squandering tax payers' money to do so.

This sort of thing is what is wrong here. This is the richest family in the land. Why is tax payer's money being spent. What do the public benefit from this?
dottiedodah · 12/08/2020 14:34

I dont get this either .Apart from the rights and wrongs of it which we could debate all day long ,they left for America and are surely not that relevant to us now?The book is making someone lots of dosh ,and at the same time taking up headline space ,which as you say could be used for lots of other more relevant news. The Mail and the Telegraph must be hoping to get lots more readers ,by constantly covering this story or they wouldnt do it presumably!

lifestooshort123 · 12/08/2020 14:36

The OP started this thread to say she is fed up with all the talk, gossip and media attention about H&M and her point has been proved by the barrage of comments. I am going to add my opinion of MM which has been formed entirely from footage of her on TV.

First of all the engagement interview. She led on this entirely and Harry was the bit-part actor. She allowed him to speak and cut him short when it suited her - she acted as though it was a showbiz engagement and not one with a member of the RF.

Secondly, every single official function that I've seen footage of (i.e when they had been invited because of Harry's royal status), MM went forward first to shake hands and meet the bigwigs - Harry brought up the rear looking like a plus one. This isn't what usually happens and made Harry looked pathetic.

If MM had taken time to get to know how the Monarchy works, the order of succession and the boring stuffy protocol, she could have taken her place with grace and respect and then gradually introduced a few tweaks and, before you know it, the Monarchy has moved (very slightly!) with the times. They both had so much to offer but it's all been thrown away because she 'hit the ground running'. So, I don't like the woman and my opinion is not racist or sexist and has not been influenced by any of the tosh on here or in the media. I wish them well in their new home and hope that H can build bridges with his family as this is the saddest part of it all.

CallmeAngelina · 12/08/2020 14:36

Yeah right! Like they'll be popping back anytime soon. I will eat my hat if Meghan ever sets foot in this country again. Or Archie, for that matter.
EthelMayFergus · 12/08/2020 14:38

Lawrie, you say that no one else has been criticised as much for spending, and that the one off engagement dress was her only big expenditure, but there was a maternity dress worn in Morocco that was £90,000. Worn once. There was a £30 million wedding; even W & K's wedding didn't cost as much and not only are they still here, but they are the future king and queen.

SunbathingDragon · 12/08/2020 14:39

The Times serialised the book and alienated a number of readers by doing so, but somehow I can’t see those readers departing for The Mail. Grin

I expect The Mail is maximising the clicks and money it can make ahead of the trial, if it goes ahead.

Roussette · 12/08/2020 14:41

Ahhh you know what they are thinking then, that's clever! Who knows. The way the english press has treated her, I don't blame her TBH.

lifestooshort123 isn't it funny how different people see different things. The engagement interview... I speak far far too much when I'm nervous and I thought, oh my goodness that's like I would be, filling in the gaps. But I wasn't looking for anything untoward . Disagree on the official functions, I never saw her pushing herself forward. But you can read anything into anything if you try hard enough

Toptotoeunicolour · 12/08/2020 14:42

Just as Charles and Diana had their "whatever love means" moment, in future people will refer back to M&H's engagement interview and point to all the signs of how it was going to go wrong.

Roussette · 12/08/2020 14:43

Top you've already decided the marriage is going tits up have you?

anon5000 · 12/08/2020 14:46

Some people on here and elsewhere would have to get a life if they didn't obsess about M & H constantly.

Snog · 12/08/2020 14:50

Seems like they bought and moved to a house in Santa Barbara 6 weeks ago which sounds to me like they are now looking for a quiet life as not much goes on there.

MouthBreathingRage · 12/08/2020 14:51

I am going to add my opinion of MM which has been formed entirely from footage of her on TV.

Oh my god, seriously? Anyone daft enough to judge a person on some TV clips deserves as much respect for their 'opinion' as anyone who makes a judgement from reading the Daily Mail for the 'facts' Hmm. This is exactly the point of MM being unfairly vilified, it's absolutely no different making an opinion by just 'watching' her as it is drawing an opinion from reading a shitrag. The only difference is you're the one making up the bull rather than the reporter.

'Meghan could have introduced a few tweaks if she had just played balled and acted like a dead-eyed puppet like the rest of them' - I mean that's some level of delusion I grant you! We all know nothing short of never opening her mouth again would have sufficed, and even then she was looking at a lifetime of being compared unfavourably to Kate for not being an 'English Rose'.
