To think of saying '16' to this?

I sent a query to a business that hires out vehicles - bikes, cars and vans.

I asked one simple question.

'Do you have electric bikes for hire?'

I got a response telling me they could hire me a small car for £160 for 5 days, and if I wanted to book to let them know and include the age of the driver.

WIBU to reply saying 'great thanks, he's 16'?

They rent out electric bikes and you asked them if they rent out electric bikes?

And now they think you’re talking about a car?

Just reply with the fact that you’re enquiring about a bike for a 16 year old.

YABU to find the time in your day to allow so much thought over this.

Waytoomuch82 · 11/08/2020 17:27

The most Pointless thread.

Ever!!

AvoidingRealHumans · 11/08/2020 17:36

I would assume a very busy person had mis-read my email and replied to what they thought I had asked. I'd reply clarifying what I was actually asking rather than being cheeky

ElainaElephant · 11/08/2020 17:43

I don't know if they rent out electric bikes.

I do know that they rent small cars though!

I am aware it is an utterly pointless thread. Most impressed that it is THE most pointless one ever though. Do I get an award? Hope so!

I can't see how they misread my email. It was literally 'hi, do you have electric bikes for hire, thanks, Elaina.

They possibly were replying to someone else's question though, who might be most confused to find out whether or not they have electric bikes for hire.

You sound like REALLY hard work. Jeez.

ElainaElephant · 11/08/2020 17:45

@2155User I'm not sure how much time you think I've spent on this, but I can guarantee you it's not a lot. I'd have come up with a much more interesting response if I had bothered to spend a lot of time on it.

I just found it mildly amusing.

I guess not everyone does.

OP posts:
ElainaElephant · 11/08/2020 17:46

I'm not hard work at all. It takes very little to amuse me.

I thought that would be obvious Grin

GrinGrinGrin made me chuckle!

@AtLastEarwax

You sound like REALLY hard work. Jeez.
Why?

For asking a business that hires a variety of vehicles if it hires out electric bikes?

And getting a completely pointless response about cars?

🍋

OP YANBU, they obviously won't last long with that kind of business plan!

CuriousaboutSamphire · 11/08/2020 17:50

What's hard work about asking them if their hiring includes their electric bikes?

What's hard work about being bemused by an email that didn't directly answer her question?

What's hard work about pondering a daft response?

What's hard work about posting said musings here?

Nope! Don't see it!

MrsGrindah · 11/08/2020 17:54

I don’t see what’s funny? What am I missing here?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 11/08/2020 17:57

Funny?

I think OP was bemused rather than amused!

CuriousaboutSamphire · 11/08/2020 17:58

She did say ' mildly amused'. Which is about right given the unhelpful response she got.

ElainaElephant · 11/08/2020 18:01

I thought my idea of a daft reply was mildly amusing. I wouldn't say any of it would be worthy of a Perrier Award. I'm not THAT good.

OP posts:
AlwaysLatte · 11/08/2020 18:01

Just do it!

whirlwindwallaby · 11/08/2020 18:24

What's relevant is that the individual doesn't have a driving licence, not their age, wouldn't matter if they were 16 or 30 if they didn't have a licence.

supersop60 · 11/08/2020 18:30

I wouldn't be amused - I'd be irritated. Your question was perfectly clear OP.
I'd try again. Don't reply 16, because they'll not be inclined to help you if you sound like a smartarse.

stoploss · 11/08/2020 18:34

OP, have you really never made an error on your life?

Ffs, grow up.

stoploss · 11/08/2020 18:34

in ffs

cdtaylornats · 11/08/2020 18:36

I would assume they don't hire electric bikes but suggested an alternative.

Hodge00079 · 11/08/2020 18:37

I am guessing they do not hire electric bikes. Probably trying to be helpful. A bit of a jump but they are not to know person it is for is 16.

RiftGibbon · 11/08/2020 18:38

I'd be tempted to message them again, saying thankyou, but my original enquiry (attached) was about electric bicycles. I need to hire one for my 16 year old...

islockdownoveryet · 11/08/2020 18:38

I don't know if it's the heat or maybe a symptom of Covid but people seam to have lost their mind at the minute.
