To think of saying '16' to this?

I sent a query to a business that hires out vehicles - bikes, cars and vans.

I asked one simple question.

'Do you have electric bikes for hire?'

I got a response telling me they could hire me a small car for £160 for 5 days, and if I wanted to book to let them know and include the age of the driver.

WIBU to reply saying 'great thanks, he's 16'?

Presumably it’s an actual person who made a mistake then it’s not right to mock them.

It’s ok to try to impress MNers with your “wit” but honestly not really worth it.

Congratulations op you win for the most pointless thread of the day

Oh no!

I've been downgraded from the most pointless thread ever.

Sad times.

How have I mocked them? If anything I'm making myself out to be an idiot for thinking 16 would be okay.

And I'm not in the game of trying to impress people. If you met me you'd realise there's little point. I'm really only trying to amuse myself.

It's working.

I'd be tempted to message them again, saying thankyou, but my original enquiry (attached) was about electric bicycles. I need to hire one for my 16 year old...

Yeah, that's closer to what I'll actually do. Probably.

I doubt it's a single person who has made a mistake. It's far more likely to be a matter of deliberate corporate training/policy/incentives that makes it more advantageous for the person responding to push product than to say a plain "no" to the OP's question.

I hate this too, OP. It wrecks my trust in a company when they are obtuse and unhelpful like that.

@ElainaElephant I think you should tell them an elephant requires this you have no idea of his age, but on second thoughts he might be safer on a tricycle Grin

Good point! They quoted me a small car. Not sure that would be big enough 🤔

I don't understand any of this.

It's too hot for riddles, Sad

Bluetrews25 · 11/08/2020 19:21

They've probably been on a course telling them never to say no to a cistomer, and always to try to upsell.
Hence the response.
I don't think this is pointless!
I can't see Richard or Xander anywhere.....

Bluetrews25 · 11/08/2020 19:21

Or even a customer

UnaCorda · 11/08/2020 19:30

YANBU. It's very irritating when people don't read emails properly. If it's a friend or relative you forgive them, but if it's a business you'd think they could pay a bit more attention and answer the question you actually asked, not the one they thought you asked or wanted you to ask.

It's tough competition there are a few Grin

CorianderLord · 11/08/2020 20:11

It's because under 25s are charged more for insurance purposes

CorianderLord · 11/08/2020 20:17

I'd have assumed that was the price for the bike

Chanjer · 11/08/2020 20:22

I'm not hard work at all. It takes very little to amuse me.

I thought that would be obvious

I think that you're the sort of person that keeps the world going round. We need more of you!

I would have answered something along the same lines...but perhaps you could add "but he looks quite a bit older"

ElainaElephant · 11/08/2020 22:07

Aww thanks @WhoWouldHaveThoughtThat, much appreciated!

I do love this idea I would have answered something along the same lines...but perhaps you could add "but he looks quite a bit older"

Wish I'd thought of it!
