To wonder where TF all these spiders have come from? SPIDER PIC IN OP

They are everywhere! In almost every corner of my house there is at least one spider. High or low, between furniture, behind radiators, I even found one that had made a home overnight in my dogs food bowl this morning! One keeps making a home in the box of dishwasher tablets Confused I don't think I've ever been so watched Grin Where the hell have they suddenly sprung from? We've never had this amount of spiders in our house before!

Don’t know but they’ cute!

possibletesco · 10/08/2020 14:09

Same! They are everywhere at the moment!

CatherinedeBourgh · 10/08/2020 14:09

sorry they’re

Cottagepieandpeas · 10/08/2020 14:10

Same here. Everywhere. 🕷

NotExactlyHappyToHelp · 10/08/2020 14:54

They look like cellar spiders. I call them my spindly babes. They don’t creep me out like house spiders and they actually eat the big clompy ones so they’re my best mates.

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 10/08/2020 15:50

My toddler has named them all Mr Skinny Legs Hmm "Mr Skinny Legs! Look! 'Nother Mr Skinny Legs! 'Nother Mr Skinny Legs.... 'NOTHER Mr Skinny Legs!!"

If you’re in the countryside like I am it could be because they are harvesting now. I always get lots of spiders and other bugs this time of year. And yes, think they are cellar spiders as pp said.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 10/08/2020 17:09

I had a huge one crawling near my head (actually on the bed) the other night. While trying to lift it off the bed and encourage it elsewhere, I knocked over my water, teapot and a bunch of other stuff.

And I do, of course, have dear family constantly reminding me that it could have crawled into my mouth had I been asleep at the time.

@EmbarrassingAdmissions
Are you Mr Bean?😂

Near enough! (I have psoriatic arthritis in my hands and I'm very clumsy at night and in the morning) Grin

I swear tho' that it looked the size of a bird-eating spider to me. At one point it was hauling itself over the pillow like it was King Kong on the Empire State - all the while sticking out random legs and shimmying like it was partway through the Morecambe & Wise routine.

It's probably dining out on this story with all the other spiders hanging around this house. Blush

Mothermorph · 10/08/2020 17:19

I dont mind these sort although they leave annoying cobwebs all over the place, but I had a monstrous big spider in the house the other day.

And I'm not listening to people who say spiders are helpful and eat insects. There are tons of flies around at the moment (which they clearly havent caught or eaten) and whenever I see them they're just lurking evilly with the intention of making me poop myself

pinkpetal2 · 10/08/2020 17:31

@EmbarrassingAdmissions
That sounds hilarious I'm sorry
I really hateeee spiders.

My Nanna used to have a caravan down in West Sussex and it had one of those little portaloo toilet type things in this cupboard that you could empty.

Well one morning I've gone in there sat down reached round for the toilet roll and honestly I could of sworn it was a tarantula 😭 it was just sitting there on it.
Never got over the fear I'm even worse now. I can actually still see it in my mind now.

Lovelise · 10/08/2020 17:43

Wow OP. That's a bold colour choice on a wall.

Cellar spiders are great because they don't move too fast and just spend there time hanging around (a bit like me actually).

MitziK · 10/08/2020 17:43

They're gathering to protect your house from all the other scarier spiders.

They eat them.

dudsville · 10/08/2020 17:45

One of these head an an sac unnoticed by me until the day it hatched. The babies are just as slow as the momma. Just hanging in the web she'd made for them. We gingerly collected them up and took them outside.

NoWordForFluffy · 10/08/2020 17:49

We have loads at the moment too. I let them stay after reading on MN, natch that they eat the enormous hairy ones. Fine by me!

Really? They look far too weedy to get rid of the monster ones....

Ontheroadtorecovery · 10/08/2020 18:07

Mr skinny legs is peppa pig Grin I too have had toddlers. I have also heard these are the most dangerous for other spiders in our country

2ndnamechangeattempt · 10/08/2020 18:09

I have these everywhere in my house too am constantly sucking them up with the hoover

NoWordForFluffy · 10/08/2020 18:12

This is great news! I've been catching these in my spider-catching contraption and putting them in the garden but I'm going to leave them be now. They are so much less scary or intrusive than the hairy scuttlers!

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 10/08/2020 21:06

@Lovelise it's my bathroom Grin (the white splats are toothpaste Hmm We love a good bright green in this house though!

Can you send some my way? I’ve just had to deal with a giant house spider and now I feel I need protection

chocolatemademefat · 10/08/2020 22:04

I wish I only had those spindly spiders. The ones in my house are big dark brown scuttly things which seem to run at me! Just put them outside - people tell me. Em - no! I prefer to stamp them to death, wrap them in miles of kitchen roll and bury them in the bin outside. Just in case stamping them to mush doesn’t really kill them.
