To feel sorry for Scottish children?

Imagine having to go back to school in this suffocating heat in new blazers and school shoes. I know September can be warm too but, it seems to me, there’s nearly always a heat wave like this in mid-August. My DC have been sleeping in the basement on and off for weeks because their bedrooms are like saunas. Schools don’t always have air-conditioning. AIBU to think Nicola Sturgeon should just push the start of term back to Sept?

Well I’m very surprised by all this, to be honest. I didn’t think it was that different.

@silver3

How can it only be 18 in Glasgow when it’s mid 30s here?

Sorry, I had just assumed it myst be about 30 up there.

Confused😂 oh OP
Chickychoccyegg · 10/08/2020 12:20

I wish it was 30 degree's here. its cold and drizzly today,im just outside Edinburgh, ive got my heating on (turned down low, but still on)

DanniArthur · 10/08/2020 12:22

Did every other Scot read the OP, walk outside, shudder then look puzzled at the grey sky? Lmao

Esspee · 10/08/2020 12:22

Grin Tell Boris to bring his thermals.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 10/08/2020 12:22

This has cheered me right up. Thanks for the laugh, OP.

Come to Scotland, but, bring a jumper and a cagoule.

uniglowooljumper · 10/08/2020 12:22

FFS. Such a narrow viewpoint. Schools don't all require blazers Hmm and it's 18 degrees up here.

TheAquaticDuchess · 10/08/2020 12:22

Paris is about 200 miles further south than London - half the distance between London and Glasgow.

EchidnasPhone · 10/08/2020 12:23

🤣🤣🤣 I wish! Scottish summers are non existent other than one nice day a fortnight.

LemonBreeland · 10/08/2020 12:23

Do you not see weather forecasts on the news OP?

If it gets above 30 in Scotland it is a rare event indeed.

I opened this thread expecting it to be about the kids in Scotland being guinea pigs for how school will work with coronavirus.

999caffeineplease · 10/08/2020 12:23

To clear things up for other posters, holidays are normally 2 weeks in Spring, 6 weeks in Summer, 2 weeks in Autumn, 2 weeks in December/Jan.

Schools in my area normally have polos/shorts/summer dresses for warmer months, shirts and ties/jumpers/trousers/skirts with tights for warmer months.

silver3 · 10/08/2020 12:24

Well you may laugh, but Britain is not a massive island really is it and so when there is a massive red zone covering most of Western Europe and weather warnings etc etc, you just presume Scotland is probably experiencing at least slightly warmer than normal temperatures too.

Pmsl.

Tbh, I always feel sorry for the English children having to go to school in lovely June weather. We all have our crosses to bear.

999caffeineplease · 10/08/2020 12:24

for colder months, rather!

merrymouse · 10/08/2020 12:25

Sorry, I had just assumed it myst be about 30 up there.

Its 26 degrees in Hampshire and 17 degrees in mid Wales. You don't even have to go 400 miles away to find different weather.

YesINameChangeEveryDay · 10/08/2020 12:25

🤣🤣🤣🤣

I can't remember the last time it got into the 30s in Scotland. It hardly ever happens.

The weather tends to be better here in June than it is in August.

I always feel sorry for the English kids still in school in July when all the kids I know are in their paddling pools a month before that.

Dahlietta · 10/08/2020 12:25

Is anyone really this dim?

minnieok · 10/08/2020 12:25

Have you been to Scotland? It's was 16 degrees and torrential rain last week when I was there, had to go to buy extra clothes. Rarely is it a heat wave ever (well 23 is a heat wave.) They are already back in school in parts of much warmer Germany too i read.

MissRabbitIsExhausted · 10/08/2020 12:26

Totally off topic but I need to ask @Dugheed are you actual TikTok Dugheed or did you just use the username? 😂

Cabinfever10 · 10/08/2020 12:26

🤣
@silver3 thanks so much for this thread I really did need a good laugh.

Ps its 15°C up here

MintChocAddict · 10/08/2020 12:26
Grin This thread has made me laugh. OP weather is fairly shit quite a lot of the time in Scotland so children won't overheat. You can rest easy in the big smoke Wink
TheAquaticDuchess · 10/08/2020 12:27

It’s just surprising to me that you’ve never before realised that the U.K. doesn’t have homogenous weather. That’s why we have local weather reports - it can vary hugely over relatively short distances.

minnieok · 10/08/2020 12:27

Ps it's only 20 degrees here in the sw of England, should have brought a cardi

hapagirl · 10/08/2020 12:27

I’m in my light down today in sunny Fife 😂

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 10/08/2020 12:28

South East Englanders: consider occasionally the rest of the UK does not have the same weather as you!

We're not all as thick as the OP.
