To feel sorry for Scottish children?

Imagine having to go back to school in this suffocating heat in new blazers and school shoes. I know September can be warm too but, it seems to me, there’s nearly always a heat wave like this in mid-August. My DC have been sleeping in the basement on and off for weeks because their bedrooms are like saunas. Schools don’t always have air-conditioning. AIBU to think Nicola Sturgeon should just push the start of term back to Sept?

No heat wave here in Scotland at mo and our primary school is polo shirts, shorts and kids can wear black trainers. Despite feeling anxious about them going back due to Covid I have great confidence in Scot Gov that if things kick off again in our area they will deal with it swiftly. Nicola S has been superb throughout.

Local education dept has emphasis on their health, wellbeing and nurture going back for the first couple of weeks and lots of outdoor learning. Guidance sent through from school for them going back has been great - really well thought out and extensive info.

24 pages and only one mention of a macaroni pie? I'm disappointed in you vipers.

Exciting lightening storms here in S lanarkshire

winkywonky · 11/08/2020 22:18

YABU to think we would we want to match England. You clearly know nothing about Scotland, it's temperature or what the people of Scotland want. Have you changed your username from Boris? 😂

We're at the centre of the excitement here. Normally it's two men and a dug Grin

God is love to be sleeping in 14 degrees right now. Ffs it's 27 right now at frigging nearly 11pm

Snowman123 · 11/08/2020 22:35

Lol Scotland never has suffocating heat 😂

jerometheturnipking · 11/08/2020 22:40

The sky is awake in Fife! No noise which is eerie, just constant lightning flashes. Not much in the way of rain either. At least it’s feeling cooler. It might have only been 16C earlier but by god it was muggy.

MdNdD · 11/08/2020 22:50

Serious?

West Lothian - mad lightning, thunder.... but no rain, which is weird
naptimeismyhappytime · 11/08/2020 22:52

@jerometheturnipking we were badly needing this to clear the air!

tabulahrasa · 11/08/2020 22:53

Oh, spoke too soon... loads of rain just arrived to go with the glowy flashy sky and noises

Started that way in Edinburgh, went on for about an hour, flashes now still going strong but its absolutely teeming down and very angry constant thunder so hold fire. Planes still taking off from the airport too. Rather them than me

nannykatherine · 11/08/2020 23:06

Didn’t you know scotland is another country ??
It’s further north than England
It gets darker earlier
Seasons are different
Makes perfect sense their school years are different toon

Komacho · 11/08/2020 23:12

@Zenne

There is no such thing as bad weather. Just wear weather appropriate clothing. Schools have summer outfits. My daughters wear school summer dresses.
I'm in Fife right now and I'd dispute the point about bad weather.
midnightstar66 · 11/08/2020 23:15

@Komacho ach no, you just need to remember to wear rubber soles and leave the brolly!

Mistressiggi · 11/08/2020 23:20

I'm actually getting a bit scared now, I don't think I've heard a storm like this!

menacingvern · 11/08/2020 23:23

My daughter has her 1st day of school tomorrow and she wants to go in the full shebang (sic) kilt, blazer, shirt, tie. It was hot today in Glasgow and is pretty warm tonight so not sure how she will feel in the morning. However she has the checked summer dress if it is too hot. She is very excited about seeing her nursery friends. X

LovelyWeekAway · 11/08/2020 23:23

Have you just been reading the Daily Mail headlines of “ British heatwave “ “ UK heatwave” ... because it really isn’t and never is ...

It’s usually a heatwave specific to the south east region of England , yet all press publicize it as a “ UK “ heatwave

As all other posters have already said , Scotland is an entirely separate country with much more temperate / cooler climate

To assume that Scotland is at 35c the same as London is so ridiculous

My DC will be back at school this week in polo shirts / jumper and be absolutely fine. Nice dry , warm approx 20c temps forecast for our areas , no rain coats needed .

kimmsutt · 11/08/2020 23:47

We drove from Surrey to Borders on Friday... temp difference was 15 degrees.

Willow2017 · 12/08/2020 01:07

Warm and muggy and foggy here in S.E Borders 17.5 but felt more. Then rain showers off and on. Still only 16 tonight but feels much more. We need a good thunderstorm.
