To feel sorry for Scottish children?

Imagine having to go back to school in this suffocating heat in new blazers and school shoes. I know September can be warm too but, it seems to me, there’s nearly always a heat wave like this in mid-August. My DC have been sleeping in the basement on and off for weeks because their bedrooms are like saunas. Schools don’t always have air-conditioning. AIBU to think Nicola Sturgeon should just push the start of term back to Sept?

im moving to scotland i cant take much more

SleepingStandingUp · 11/08/2020 18:20

Isn't it all snow beyond the wall?

derxa · 11/08/2020 18:22

with a vague wave across the map, lol Yes the dismissive wave. Hmm
I have developed an irrational hatred of weather forecasters. They are so subjective in their forecasts. We're farmers and long periods of dry weather are never good. But it's all 'another lovely day'

echodot · 11/08/2020 18:26

@AuntyMabelandPippin

It's not exactly cracking the flags here.
LOL!!!
EllenRipley · 11/08/2020 18:44

🤣 have you ever been to Scotland OP? Or looked at our weather forecasts?!
Granted it's a wee bit warm today, but even then I can guarantee that the country will be at least 10 degrees cooler than the south (and we'll still wistfully call it a 'heatwave' when the wind, cloud and rain return).

I've had my log fire burning throughout much of July, and I don't even live that far north.

EllenRipley · 11/08/2020 18:47

@SleepingStandingUp 🤣

NC111 · 11/08/2020 18:54

Definately not hot weather no Scotland. My kids are back tomorrow and the
Weather has been awful for
Most of august- wind/rain etc.
Our uniform doesn't include blazers either.
It's always much colder in Scotland than the temperatures in England

Auckland11 · 11/08/2020 18:55

This has to be a joke right? How oblivious can you be to be in london thinking everywhere else in the country is the same temp? Seriously? How stupid can you be! Snd even if it was why the hell do you think we would send out kids in layers of clothes to school? Theres something called summer dresses for girls and shorts and tshirts for boys to wear to school.

midnightstar66 · 11/08/2020 19:00

If it's warm dc can wear their polo shirts and shorts/skirt. Or a summer dress. It's not hot anyway. Temps in the late teens for Edinburgh and schools will have all their windows open. I've been in work in school with my jacket on all day Monday/Tuesday because of the ventilation requirement of all windows open. I know of no schools here that insist on blazers. Primary's don't even have them as part of their standard uniform and high schools optional.

Noconceptofnormal · 11/08/2020 19:08

I'm laughing that the OP has no idea that Scotland is much colder than here in the South.

Has Scotland ever had a heatwave like this?

midnightstar66 · 11/08/2020 19:09

I'd be absolutely furious to have missed our glorious early July weather because some deluded person thought we'd want the same as England. You may get August heatwaves but we get August downpours and that's the tread here

Gottheteeshirtandlostit · 11/08/2020 19:19

To be fair to the OP, the STV weather man warned of uncomfortably hot temps in parts of Scotland tonight, reaching an overnight high of a blistering 18 degrees in some parts. Be careful out there folks.

bananasplitsallround · 11/08/2020 19:34

This is Scotland we are talking about! It rarely gets above 21 in summer!

Bettyboo1957 · 11/08/2020 19:34

Pathetic.. truly pathetic. .... what a ridiculous life lesson....if its hot, do what you damn well like...... hang on.... thats what we English have been doing.
....pass the sun cream!

GJ14 · 11/08/2020 19:40

It’s probably not that hot in Scotland. It seems to be cooler there.

I’m in Cornwall, it’s muggy and humid but certainly not as hot as some places right now.

I hate the heat and it’s not ridiculous down here which is nice.

Zenne · 11/08/2020 19:50

There is no such thing as bad weather. Just wear weather appropriate clothing. Schools have summer outfits. My daughters wear school summer dresses.

midnightstar66 · 11/08/2020 20:04

It is seldom a heat wave when I go to Edinburgh for the Fringe!

Someone forgot to notify the weather gods that the fringe was cancelled. Deluge started from day one here in Edinburgh regardless of its absence 😆

lowlandLucky · 11/08/2020 20:09

In my little corner SW Scotland it was was 26 degrees today. We had a a temperature of just 4 degrees one morning last week. The weather forecasters never get it right for this area

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 11/08/2020 20:28

24 pages and only one mention of a macaroni pie? I'm disappointed in you vipers.

Harls1969 · 11/08/2020 20:39

It's bloody hot in the East Midlands today too. 32° at 5pm. Sweaty bits 🥵

IncrediblySadToo · 11/08/2020 20:52

@Newmama29

I wonder what other crazy shit southerners think about Scottish people? Grin
How about how stupid SOME of them must be if they think all Southers are the same 🙄🙄🙄
expatinspain · 11/08/2020 20:54

I’m sure schools have a policy that you can take your blazer off or wear summer uniform in a heatwave (not that Scotland’s having one at the moment). Imagine the kids where I live in Spain, in school in June in 37 degree heat with no AC in the classrooms and many countries that are even hotter!

Serin · 11/08/2020 21:19

I would never feel sorry for anyone Scottish, gorgeous country. I'd love to live there.

Jeeperscreepers69 · 11/08/2020 21:22

Omg we all did it. This generation dont need any special treatment.

nicegirl73 · 11/08/2020 21:47

Scandinavian kids got back in August but finish early june, i think it’s horrific every year that the English kids miss out of so much summer and only get the late summer and what we would can early autumn.
Heatwave in Sweden also now
