AIBU about dog poo on pram?

DM took DS out for the second time by herself today (first time was yesterday - he's 10 months but due to lockdown she hasn't done this before). She came back and there was dog poo on the pram wheel. DP has gone mental. He is saying we need to buy a new pram wheel. I suspect he won't let DM take DS out again tomorrow. He is furious. He says it's incredibly dangerous for babies. We need to chuck the blanket out because it was in the under carriage bit of the pram near the wheel. I think whereas it's annoying at the end of the day you just clean a pram wheel with some water and it's fine? Would have run it through a puddle but it's hot today.

So the question is
YABU - DP is right and poo on the pram wheel is awful, awful, awful. Bring on the new wheel / new blanket/ DM barred from taking DS out.

YANBU - dog poo on a pram wheel is regrettable but ultimately fine.

P.S. he wants to buy the new pram wheel on eBay. Like that one won't have ever had any dog poo on it.....

Wash the blanket at 90 and clean/disinfect the pram wheel. I get the germ phobia thing, but as long as the pram wasn’t wheeled through the house then it’s easily sorted!

NoGinNotComingIn · 08/08/2020 20:43

I thought you were going to say she wheeled the pram through your house and everything is covered in shit 😆, but no. He needs to calm down. If I'd bought a new wheel every time I drove through shit I'd have a lot of wheels lol. Hose it off with the hose pipe or power washer, I keep the pram in an outside porch not inside the house though, i'd probably bleach it or something too if it was coming inside.

You can't always see the poo for the pram and there always seems to be lots first thing in the morning, I guess when there's no one around people don't bother to poop scoop. I wouldn't be mad at your mum.

BadTattoosAndSmellLikeBooze · 08/08/2020 20:46

Holy cow. If he was my DH I don’t think I could have a conversation with him about this keeping a straight face and not piss myself laughing at his ridiculousness

Or you could maybe read between the lines and realise that the person is struggling and needs help with anxiety. Just a thought. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Dogsgowoofwoof · 08/08/2020 20:51

What?! I just spray ours with the hosepipe if we roll through poo or lots of mud.

Blondiney · 08/08/2020 20:55

Keep the pram, throw him out.

Arthersleep · 08/08/2020 20:55

Well, the good news is that, the next time that he accidentally steps in dog poo, you have a good excuse to ask him to leave... Before replacing him with a chap with clean shoes!

CathyorClaire · 08/08/2020 20:56

Lordy, that's OTT.

I can only hope your DS doesn't turn out to be the dogshit magnet my eldest was. I've always sworn he could find the only turd in a five mile radius and stand in it Grin

CarrotCakeCrumbs · 08/08/2020 20:59

Hmm is he expecting your son to lick the pram wheel? Wash it down in the garden; wash the blanket and get your husband some chamomile tea for his nerves....
God help him when your son gets a bit older, ohh the wonderful things children find and put in their mouths will probably give him a heart attack.

Your poor mum though!

Arthersleep · 08/08/2020 21:00

There's being protective and there is being rather bat shit. And I can't help wondering whether he dislikes your mother. I mean, can you imagine your own mother not being allowed to take her GC out because she once accidentally rolled the pram through some poo. Ridiculous! There's over protective and then there is anxious. This definitely falls into the latter category.

Minai · 08/08/2020 21:04

Massively over the top reaction. I had postnatal anxiety and I used to stress about this but the most I’d ever do was thoroughly wash the pram wheel with boiled water and antibacterial spray. He really needs to calm down. I’d imagine there are microscopic traces of dog poo on every pavement.

Burnthurst187 · 08/08/2020 21:07

We've got dog muck on a pram wheel half a dozen times in the last year. On a couple of times I was able to get it off by going through puddles and a few other times I've got the hose pipe out

DP is over reacting in wanting a new wheel

winterchills · 08/08/2020 21:09

I feel sorry for your mum 😩😩what a strange strange man

Sunrise234 · 08/08/2020 21:14

Does he wash his hands after being on his phone and touching the baby? Because phones are one of the worst things for germs.
Complete over reaction!

Animal poo can be harmful but as it’s on a wheel it is fine. And the blanket will be fine once it’s been washed. If I was the DM I wouldn’t want to take the baby out again.

Sunrise234 · 08/08/2020 21:15

Is this your baby? Because this is going to be a common occurrence and when the babies waking it will also get on their shoes.

Sunrise234 · 08/08/2020 21:15

*first

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 08/08/2020 21:22

He can't be serious?

MiniCooperLover · 08/08/2020 21:29

That's what baby wipes are for ?!?

imissthesouth · 08/08/2020 21:29

Is he feeling okay? Dog poo is only dangerous if left to get worms. A little bit on a wheel isn't going to hurt anyone.

DopamineHits · 08/08/2020 21:35

Unless the baby was riding home on the wheel instead of in the pram everything will be solved by washing powder for the blanket and washing the wheel.

And I hope neither of you made your DM feel bad, dog shit happens. Unless you are craning your neck to see in front of the pram at all times it may happen on your watch too.

Cam2020 · 08/08/2020 21:36

Woah! Gosh! Does your OH have anxiety issues? I stood on dog poobare foot at the park today... should I chop my foot off?

Yes! Immediately! I'm sure you can find crutches on ebay! Who needs a foot, anyway?!

Seriously he needs to calm down. I get first time parent stress, but this is something to watch in case it escalates. Who knows what pram/buggy wheels go through?! Glad you were sensible!

Janaih · 08/08/2020 21:40

Hes going to get through a lot of pram wheels if he carries on like this. Nip this in the bud now. If he has anxiety he needs to get help to deal with it.

oakleaffy · 08/08/2020 21:41

Dog poo that is FRESH is not a danger for ''visceral larval migrans''
it is OLD dog poo that releases the worm eggs that are ingested by children who don't wash their hands.

Dog poo is uncivilised and annoying.. owners of dogs ought to worm dogs regularly to prevent the eggs passing out in poo.

oakleaffy · 08/08/2020 21:45

OP, I bought a new bike {second hand, but new to me}...and rode it through poo in long grass...
I could have bought a new wheel, but just do what every other mother or rider does...cursed and rode it through puddles to get rid of the worst, then scrubbed off the remains before bringing it indoors.

Anyway...DS fell over in dog poo...his hand splatted right in it.
I was fuming {public playground} but..''Shit happens''.

Frazzled2207 · 08/08/2020 21:49

My dh is really uppity about dog poo. Gets stressed every time we go near it and I remember him being a bit cross every time we got dog poo on it. And he would never suggest anything beyond actually giving it all a good wash.

oakleaffy · 08/08/2020 21:49

I can only hope your DS doesn't turn out to be the dogshit magnet my eldest was. I've always sworn he could find the only turd in a five mile radius and stand in it grin

Oh gawd! dying here...I think my DS is one of those..his bike wheel /hand/foot finds poo like a magnet finds pins too 😂
