I'm an idiot aren't I? That's it.

The weather has no effect on the food I want to eat. My mother used to complain that she had no appetite in the heat but I've never had that problem.

nocoolnamesleft · 08/08/2020 17:36

Depends. Did you use a decent cut of beef? I like beef rib trim for a good stew.

orangejuicer · 08/08/2020 17:38

Not a particularly special cut of beef I'm afraid, but decent wine. Just seemed a simple option for tea! (Not dinner)

I have just made a steak pie to have with mash - we can be idiots together Smile

Leaannb · 08/08/2020 17:39

I would die for a good, hearty beef stew. But since it's 40 outside that will not be happenjng. To be honest I haven't touched my cook too since June

AdoptAdaptImprove · 08/08/2020 17:39

I’ve done exactly the same thing! It’s easier than making something which needs you to be in the kitchen for a long time. Now it’s blipping away on the hob I can leave it to cook itself till we’re ready to eat, while I languish in the living room.

vodkaredbullgirl · 08/08/2020 17:49

Ive got sausage casserole cooking, with mash.

orangejuicer · 08/08/2020 17:50

Idiots unite! Grin

Adopt that's it exactly. It's too hot to be faffing about in the kitchen. Plus we get to finish off the wine!

We had a stew this week. It's too hot to use the oven so I'm making anything that can go in the pressure cooker as it creates no heat in the house

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 08/08/2020 17:54

Nope. Not at all unreasonable. Personally I make more slow cooker food in the summer than the winter because its too hot to be in the kitchen. I prep it all the night before once its cooled down and then bung it in the slow cooker in the morning.

elp30 · 08/08/2020 17:59

I live in the southern part of the US.
Right now, it's not quite 12pm and it's 33C and the humidity makes the "feels like" temperature 39C.
It's actually not as hot as it usually is at this time of the year so I am making a stew for dinner today, as well.
If I waited for a cold weather day to eat stews and soups, I'd only eat them in January.

Enjoy your stew! I know that I'll enjoy mine.

ButteryPuffin · 08/08/2020 18:01

Well, I wouldn't but it's your tea! I'm sure it'll be lovely.

My easy option tea tonight is supermarket pizza..

PontiacBandit · 08/08/2020 18:05

I've made chicken soup, it's definitely not a summer dish however it only involves prep and was left bubbling for a few hours in the hob.

orangejuicer · 08/08/2020 18:07

Yay not just me. And it was supermarket pizza last night Grin

You are a superwoman. I love in NC and no way in hell would I be making a stew today. Today does feel like a cold front but the earliest I can eat stews is late October and November....Maybe

My easy option is tomato sandwiches on sourdough and fruit salad
IncrediblySadToo · 08/08/2020 18:30

Yep -seems like several of you need certifying.

We're on the rabbit food!! Anything warmer than a tomato isn't getting a look in!

Pipandmum · 08/08/2020 18:35

I went to a birthday lunch Thursday and got brisket. Regretted it, even though it came with cole slaw. Wish I'd had the caesar salad.

MinnieJackson · 08/08/2020 18:57

Way too hot but it sounds delish! I'm having a takeaway. Looking forward to tomorrow's lunch already, hot beef baguettes, homemade potato salad and side salad

JoeCalFuckingZaghe · 08/08/2020 18:58

It’s not the food for me it’s the heat the making the food creates. Beef Stew in a slow cooker... fine. A bubbling pot adding to the sweaty air.. not a chance!

Madein1995 · 08/08/2020 19:00

I never quite fancy anything mega hot or filling in this weather as it does feel too hot for me. Tonight is halloumi vurger and sweet potato fries, tomorrow is couscous and something. I do find the heat makes me want to eat less. Each to their own tho

Oysterbabe · 08/08/2020 19:02

Sounds good to me. Beef stew in one pressure cooker, potatoes in the other, tasty dinner with minimal work.

HeyAsdaIAintGonBeYourBitch · 08/08/2020 19:04

I did this last week! Beef in Guinness stew to be precise. To make it 'summery', I served it with ciabatta and veg instead of potatoes. Soooooo summery Grin.

ExplodingCarrots · 08/08/2020 19:07

I've got chicken Cacciatore in the slow cooker and we've just come down the beach for a quick walk and there's loads of people having BBQs and now I'm salivating for a burger Grin.

Furrydogmum · 08/08/2020 19:08

Nope - I'm doing minced beef "stew" with dumplings and mash tomorrow 😁
