To wonder why we still use PayPal?

I hate PayPal.
Yet again, they are holding my money for no reason except from their ‘own internal security reviews’ . I’m forced to use PayPal because the platform I’m using insists on it. For YEARS I’ve had issue after issue with PayPal in various ways, through eBay, and other sites where there’s been no other option. Yet through my bank I have a million tools to send money safely globally, and at a far cheaper rate. Anyone else mad at PayPal? Angry

uk.trustpilot.com/review/www.paypal.co.uk

People should look at the reviews on trustpilot. A LOT of people have their money held for months and have to jump hoops to get it back. Many people who have been affected by this truly believe that PayPal do it in order to earn more interest on the money they hold, which seems likely as it often affects people with £1000+ waiting to be withdrawn. I don't know how they keep getting away with it, but apparently if you look deep in their terms and conditions, they're not actually obliged to ever give your money back, as they're not a bank so they're not regulated like one.

The last time I used it I had forgotten my password and tried to reset it. It said it didn't have my email address on record. So,I tried to open a new account and it said they already had an account with that email address so.........tried to reset password, again, we don't have a record of an account with this email address. After going round in circles like this for a while i gave up!!

@Therollockingrogue you're welcome. I really hope your problem gets fixed a lot quicker than hers. And then hopefully you can start using one of the other companies instead.

@AlmostAJillSandwich

Paypal offers refund protection, bank transfer doesn't.

This is why I use PayPal.

Yes . I assume there is some benefit in it for PayPal When they hold money. Like the woman in the video , I’ve fulfilled orders at massive expense , and while the buyers have confirmed receipt and given glowing feedback/ testimonials, the issue remains that I’m VERY out of pocket. I can’t even withdraw the shipping costs. Every single time I speak with PayPal resolution centre I’m given an entirely different reason. Or they blame someone else. They first tried to blame my bank.. they tried the selling platform, the buyer. Just everyone. Eventually they admit it’s their own ‘security checks‘. It’s just nonsense, so fed up of it.

My account was suddenly blocked and had to send in scans of ID to get it back. I worked as a copywriter for an online company that only paid out via PayPal. The only thing was, I lived in Greece in a village at the time (years ago) and scanners weren't easily available. I eventually sent a fax and the shop charged 13 euros to send it! Then PayPal said the fax was blurry and had to resend it. The woman in the shop actually tried to charge me again for having to resend and we got in a huge fight. Then waited 2 long weeks for them to unblock the account. I was so broke I found and ate some old potatoes from an abandoned garden. Hated PayPal ever since.

I have used PayPal as a business and privately for 17 years. Only had one problem where I couldn't access my account for months due to a technical error on my account. It was a pain to sort, but I still had access to my money, I just couldn't log in, I had to ring up.
More recently I have started to come away from them on my website as they removed the fee discounts for businesses with certain turnovers. I went from paying 20p +1.4% to 30p + 3% and obviously I was extremely unhappy about that. eBay are forcing everyone on to managed payments, starting with businesses, so I won't have much to do with them soon. Granted eBay couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery and the whole process of signing up has been horrendous, so I've been whittling down the eBay side of my business too.

As a buyer I always use PayPal if its an option. Offers me far more security than using my debit card

Never had any problem at all with Paypal.

But you do get plenty of scammers pretending to be Paypal who tell you there is an issue on your account to phish for data.

I like it and have never had a problem in all these years.

I think though as a buyer I’d be absolutely gutted to know the seller had received no money while I was merrily enjoying my new purchase. Especially if it was something that somebody had created especially.

I find it easier to use when buying online than using my bank card tbh.

What's the alternative?

PayPal is easy and has protections as a buyer that bank transfer doesn't.

I use PayPal as a buyer and seller and have never had an issue.

I'm a seller and have had issues with them holding my money for no apparent reason. I offer 2 secure ways for people to pay and roughly 50% choose to pay through PayPal. I've tried disabling PayPal and just offering the other method but sales went down so I'm stuck with it.

I use them a lot and have never had an issue. I've never heard anyone I know complaining about them either. Always been a buyer rather than a seller, though.

Friends of mine founded stripe, the paypal alternative. Thankfully its spreading, as paypal are useless. I moved country and still owe paypal £9.30 which they keep chasing me for but refuse to allow me to pay. They've spent more than that contacting me and arguing with me.

I use shopify to sell so have their online payment system. There are others too though like stripe, sagepay etc. These obviously won't work if you sell through ebay though.

I love PayPal, it makes buying things online much easier. I've never had an issue with it and it gives you protection as well I believe.

I've never had problems. If you take money in advance for orders, is it sort of held in escrow until the buyer indicates they're happy with the order? I wonder whether people have had problems paying for orders which don't materialise. Not saying this is you but PayPal May have this as a policy. I've not used it for a purchase over 1K and it would make sense for there to be some checks if paying in advance.

Nope, I think it's great. I've never had an issue in 8 years.

They do say they’re waiting until the buyer confirms receipt. But then when the buyer does this, the funds are still not released.
I’ll look at stripe . It seems so many buyers love to use PayPal and do so with no issue. But for sellers it’s often a different story.
