To ignore the door to chuggers?

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 05/08/2020 17:57

They have taken to door knocking where I live as they clearly can't accost people in city centres while they're out on their lunch break any more.

Have just watched one walk up our garden path while I was cooking dinner. She saw me there. I completely ignored the knock. Had one last week as well when we were both on conference calls who kept persisting. Feel like making a sign saying 'don't disturb me in my office'

Can't be doing with them. What do you do? Ignore the door? Answer and tell them to bog off? Or something else?

Why on earth would complete strangers be turning up asking for money during a fecking pandemic?

formerbabe · 05/08/2020 17:59

Ignore

If I want to have some fun I ask what charity they're collecting for.

Whatever the affliction or cause I tell them I'm suffering from it and what help can they give me?

That shuts them up

Maria, this is your trunk, these are your gowns. You may arrange them in any way you wish.

Substitute 'trunk' for home, 'gowns' for chuggers etc.

Ameanstreakamilewide · 05/08/2020 18:06

Lady Catherine will never know!

recklessruby · 05/08/2020 18:07

Just ignore them. You didn't invite them so not your problem.
We have blinds on our front Windows so you cant really see in and a spy hole on the front door (that only ds can see out of. Council must think everyone is 6 ft tall).

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 05/08/2020 18:12

My husband insists on answering the door as he things it's rude not to! He wasn't here though. I hate anyone door knocking.

Ignore.

I feel bad for them, it's a shit job. But asking me to give my direct debit details on my doorstep, IMO, is awful and it should be outlawed.

YANBU also noticed people going door to door trying to sell energy deals. Had a guy from Shell do it, sent him packing and made on official complaint to them. Doubt I'll hear anything.

recklessruby · 05/08/2020 18:17

@chocolatesaltyballs22 me too unless you know a friend is coming or its the postie/delivery people/workmen. Used to lose my temper with chuggers etc when nightmare sleeper dd had finally gone to sleep.
House down my road has a sign saying DO NOT KNOCK BABY SLEEPING. No babies here but a good idea

ShadylilFocker · 05/08/2020 18:18

Dont be so wet! Door to door people are scammers ignore them. Invest in a door bell like RING to speak to randoms and video them without opening the door.

CasaLuna · 05/08/2020 19:28

We had one yesterday mid-afternoon which we ignored, he came back at 6pm right at DP was in the middle of a really important final stage job interview and the guy KNOCKED ON THE WINDOW. The curtains and windows were open so he could see and hear inside, he tried to be all jokey “I can see you’re home...” until he saw DP’s furious face.

They were back again today (!!) but interestingly didn’t come to our door, wonder if we’ve been marked as Do Not Disturb or something.

mosquitofeast · 05/08/2020 19:30

I hope I get one. I could really do with an opportunity to let rip at someone

Somewheresun · 05/08/2020 19:38

I hate chugger that come to the door they always tend to say...
"all your neighbours have signed up" I always say good for them but your not getting my direct debit details and close the door.

cologne4711 · 05/08/2020 19:39

I ignore the door to anyone but invited guests the post(wo)man and people doing jobs for me.

Some MNers think that's weird but I don't see why people should invade my privacy to flog me stuff/ask for money.

If you're working and they can see you, you need a big sign to stick in the window saying DO NOT DISTURB I AM WORKING. I have pulled the curtains across before now and ignored them.

Iwantacookie · 05/08/2020 19:43

I've just had one to do with energy. I just tell them I dont deal with it and dp dont do door sales.

Make a sign asking not to be disturbed as you're working from home? I had this before I put (huge) gates outside my house. Cold callers can really be a nuisance

Grapesoda7 · 05/08/2020 19:55

I just ignore them, even if they've seen me.

Drives me mad, I'm usually cooking when they knock the door.

Picklypickles · 05/08/2020 19:55

YANBU to ignore, my oh always answers the door and then calls me to deal with them and I just tell them I'm not interested, haven't got any money so don't waste time pitching to me!

Fatherbrownsbicycle · 05/08/2020 20:02

My best ever purchase. Used to get half a dozen people knocking a week, since getting the sign a couple of years ago I’ve only had one.

To ignore the door to chuggers?
hiredandsqueak · 05/08/2020 20:05

I never open the door to chuggers apart from the once that I though it was my son's friend. Opened the door, said "Hi James, I'll give him a shout" leaving him standing in the porch. Then started making chit chat asking about his mum, was he going on holiday, had he seen much of Tom. Ds came through looked and asked who it was.
Chugger then revealed he was working for Sightsavers. Ds then said "well as you might guess my mother is as blind as a bat so could do with your help herself. We don't sign up to anything at the door though"

Nat6999 · 05/08/2020 20:13

Definitely a no cold callers sign on your door. I've stopped being polite to anyone who ignores it & knocks, especially Jehovas Witnesses. I've even given them back any crap they put through the door.

itsaratrap · 05/08/2020 20:14

Ignore.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 05/08/2020 20:33

Don't even get me started on Jehovah's Witnesses. I live in a mainly Jewish area. What are they thinking?!
