Well... I was going to say “classy” but I don’t think that’s a particularly classy word!

Following on from the “tacky/common” thread. What sort of things would you say are “good taste” “middle class” etc

I’ll start... appletiser

That's the third time I've seen Florida on the tacky list... Confused. Is it the Disney connection?

bravefox · 07/08/2020 20:09

Some interesting posts re: cars.

I've always thought owning a car outright and running it into the ground (and then some) because it still gets the job done and that's all that matters is the effortlessly classy thing to do.

Shiny, trendy cars bought on finance and replaced every 3 years just because is definitely not classy!

I am not rich or particularly tasteful but members of my family and extended family are. I would say some tasteful things they have are original art in their houses. Not by famous artists but paintings they have picked up in small galleries on nice holidays. Expensive cutlery and bowls, plates, wine glasses etc which they use when they are entertaining. Luxurious carpets and bed linen. En-suite bathrooms and dressing rooms in more than one bedroom. Expensive shoes and obviously well maintained nails and hair. Subtle but expensive jewellery, nothing too blingy. Molton brown products and fluffy towels. Bookcases with lots of books on but nothing too trashy. Nice garden furniture. Holidays off the beaten track and never package deals.

Christ. I find this sort of thread rather disturbing.
Good manners have fuck all to do with class (and OP did ask for middle class things); it is, quite frankly, offensive to suggest so.

JeSuisPoulet · 07/08/2020 22:53

Shizzle - I don't know about politics any more. More and more I see people of all classes discussing and posting on social media about politics. This would never happen with money or religion.

BonfireStarter · 07/08/2020 23:40

Not having tattoos or fake nails, being polite, confident but understated, from the people I've noticed.

MumsyMumIAmNot · 08/08/2020 00:15

Appletisers not classy.

Porridgeoat · 08/08/2020 00:39

Good taste- Log burner, Scandi style furnishings,

Middle class - hand me down children’s clothes, bell tents, John Lewis, Sainsburys, Aldi, rambling,

Gailplatt95 · 08/08/2020 01:16

I wouldn’t say class has anything to do with money because I think we all know money can’t buy class don’t we?😂
I don’t think class is about the flash car you drive or the fancy places you go, class is about how you carry yourself, your manners and your integrity. Class is more than just a visual I think.
I’ve known elderly woman with nothing but a state pension carry their selves better than a millionaire!

A bit random but an appreciation for good food and the ability to put together a delicious, healthy meal on a whim.

I'm hopeless at this but I have a friend who does this effortlessly and for some unknown reason it always strikes me as "classy" when I watch her do so.
