To think friend is wrong?.....

So two friends and I met for coffee. Let’s say ‘Anna’ and ‘Debbie’.

Anna proudly told us that her son has secured a job as a trainer chartered accountant. He’s a graduate with a degree in something unrelated.

Debbie asks Anna if she’s disappointed?! Shock and said ‘well I suppose it’s better than some jobs, but I thought he would have done something different to be honest’

Cue me fumbling around and trying to swiftly change subject.

Now knowing Debbie, I think she was having a bit of a dig and trying to put Anna down a peg or 2. She’s done similar in past eg another friend bought a brand new gorgeous house. It was stunning. Debbie piped up and said ‘has it only got 3 bedrooms. The master suite is quite small eh?’ Confused that kind of thing.

If my DC got a job as a trainee chartered account, I’d be over the moon. I would be very proud indeed! In fact I would actively encourage it.

I think it’s a career be proud of and that Debbie is wrong. It’s not something everyone can do and takes a lot of hard work and dedication!

Ditch Debbie. It’s not her first offence. She’s a bitch. You’d better hope Anna doesn’t ditch you.

What are Debbie’s kids then, astronauts?

Kisskiss · 04/08/2020 17:42

She doesn’t sound very nice!!! Think a PP was right when they said you should challenge her and make her squirm next time

bigvig · 04/08/2020 17:44

I'm another one who'd really like to know what 'Debbie' does for a living.

2pinkginsplease · 04/08/2020 17:44

Debbie is a bitch, my ds is at uni studying accounting and finance to become an accountant and I couldn’t be prouder!

Debbie obviously has something lacking in her life that she feels the need to put others down.

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 04/08/2020 17:47

Debbie sounds like a bitter, jealous old hag. I dont really know why you'd want to be friends with someone so bitter and catty. Its clear she enjoys putting people down and rubbishing their success to boost her own low, fragile sense of worth. Its horrid behaviour and more fool you for putting up with it!

runrabbitrunrunrun · 04/08/2020 17:51

Ditch Debbie downer!

Moonshinemisses · 04/08/2020 17:51

Debbie sounds like a joy sponge and probably pisses on other people's chips at any opportunity.

SantaClaritaDiet · 04/08/2020 17:51

Debbie is nasty.

What can be the point of putting down anything a parent is proud of? It's irrelevant if a chartered accountant is considered average or an outstanding achievement, everybody has different backgrounds and expectations. Debbie must have a massive chip on a shoulder if she opens her mouth for anything else than congratulating the mother - normal people keep their thoughts to themselves.

L8Bloomer · 04/08/2020 17:52

Disappointed her son has a secure well-paying job of his own choosing!?

YEH, I"M GUTTED

''Debbie'' sounds like she makes herself feel better by making other people feel bad.

BumbleBeee69 · 04/08/2020 17:53

Friendship should not be this hard.... I have to question your friendship choices OP... Hmm

AcrobaticCardigan · 04/08/2020 17:53

Debbies a real bitch!

Isthisnothing · 04/08/2020 17:58

You know she's a bitch. Next time smile and say "why are you saying that? It's very bitchy and we all know untrue. You are clearly jealous"

BadTattoosAndSmellLikeBooze · 04/08/2020 18:01

Debbie is a twat. Do you want to have a twat as a friend?

Tappering · 04/08/2020 18:02

And is Debbie herself a Nobel prize winner, living in an historic mansion, and mother to a child who is currently leading the field on curing cancer and facilitating world peace?

Thought not.

IseeIsee · 04/08/2020 18:03

What does Debbie do?

burnoutbabe · 04/08/2020 18:04

I'd assume Debbie was a bit stupid and didn't know what an accountant is?

TableFlowerss · 04/08/2020 18:04

@billy1966

Why indeed the fumbling around such rudeness...

If I was Anna I'd leave the two of you to your coffee.

Well if already said how great it was.

We knew what she’s like. There’s been situations where’s she done things before when Anna was - who also didn’t say anything. Not sure why Anna would fall out with me for the fact we’ve both got a friend that we both know can’t keep her mouth shut.

I mean Anna’s been present when she’s done this before. Folk just roll their eyes at her

Anna knows what she’s like. She’s the one in the group that we all just wince at.

Debbie actually works at a local luxury car dealership as a salesperson. She probably offends more people than she secured sales in Grin

SweetBillie · 04/08/2020 18:11

Ditch Debbie.

donnatellme · 04/08/2020 18:14

& what kind of career did St. Debbie have?

caramelbun · 04/08/2020 18:14

Put Debbie in her place. I guarantee other people do and she just picks on the people who don’t complain.

Hilda40 · 04/08/2020 18:14

"Debbie the only thing you've ever done is Dallas"

TableFlowerss · 04/08/2020 18:16

I agree with you all about ditching her. There’s a group of us and we all know she can like that.

Everyone just takes it really, I suppose we make excuses for her but yes, I think we’re all getting very fed up of it. Especially when it’s personal like that.

I think she’s not wired right to suggest a Chartered Accountant is a shit job!

Call Debbie out on it.
