Hi everyone,

Sorry for a very boring AIBU but does anyone have any interesting facts they’d like to share? I need a good fact for a work meeting this morning - any ideas?

Thank you!

I've been told that streets in London start their numbering at the end of the street closest to St Paul's. No idea if it's true or not!

Jim Morrison was born in a van, and Van Morrison was born in a gym

I really wanted this to be true but 3 seconds on Google tells me Van Morrison was born at 125 Hyndford Street, Belfast which is a 2 up 2 down terraced house....

if you hold down the unlock doors button on your car key fob for 5 seconds it lowers all the electric windows in the car - ideal when approaching a scorching hot car....

herbivore dinosaurs used to eat rocks to help crush up the plants in their stomachs

Some animals still do this today, I think cows are one of them

Tyburn gallows were close to where Marble Arch is today (actually the traffic island at the end of Edgware Road).

The City of London contains no roads. Well nothing called a road. (Technically as it does now contain one side of Goswell Road which used to be Goswell St)

One of the reasons Fitzroy chose Darwin to accompany him on HMS Beagle was because he liked the shape of Darwin’s nose.

Jakarta is the fated sinking city on earth and is sinking as much as 25cm a year in some places (the rest is between 1-15cm)

A Blue whales poo around 200litres in one dump, it looks like ping pong balls and smells like a giant dog turd.

Not on every car.
littlewoollypervert · 04/08/2020 12:03

@cooliebrown the opposite is true as well - if you leave a car window open and realise after you have locked the car and walked away, if you hold down the lock button the window will close.

Redraptor · 04/08/2020 12:10

Amazing thread

Dont think I have anything to add. A chicken is the closest living thing to a t-rex

Mypathtriedtokillme · 04/08/2020 12:10

The largest known single living organism on Earth is a honey fungus that covers a 9.6 sq Km area and is thought to be between 1900 and 8600 years old.

Fungi are more closely related to animals than they are to plants

Found this out to my cost years ago when I had been fiddling with the keys to my new Audi parked outside. When I got back to the car the front windows were open and the seats were soaked through from torrential rain storm. Wet arse for the 4 hour drive home!

Had anyone else just gone out to check their car key can do this?! Grin

The Ivy League colleges on the east coast of America were funded and built because of heroin.
Really?

Harvard founded 1636.

Heroin trademarked 1898.

I watched a fascinating documentary on China , the poppy trade and the US colleges on Aljazeera a couple of months ago.

The money that was made due to poppies being grown and made into a drug funded the building of key US colleges

I’m trying to find the program again.
