Hi everyone,

Sorry for a very boring AIBU but does anyone have any interesting facts they’d like to share? I need a good fact for a work meeting this morning - any ideas?

Thank you!

In a poll in 2016, 52% of people voted to leave the EU.

Not true. 52% of the turnout, about 26% of people.

The average Ancient Roman was 5'2 tall

Male or female?

sashh · 05/08/2020 08:05

This one needs a practical demonstration

Go to a mirror and mouth the name "Van Gough" - what does it look like you are saying?

In British Sign Language there are a number of signs for 'toilet' - one is only used by children. One looks like you are making a phone call and another is the same as the sign for 'Belgium'.

If you have normal hearing you can hear whether water is hot or cold when you pour it.

The colour 'orange' only arrived in the English Language with the fruit, before this it was a shade of red. This is why we refer to ginger hair as 'red'.

Dragons are the only mythical creatures that appear in every culture

Puffalicious · 05/08/2020 10:13

swish I am completely wetting myself with laughter. Ducks have got it sussed!

Puffalicious · 05/08/2020 10:16

Maxi I did not know this! I am off to try and apply for a Canadian passport in case Brexit gets too much for me.

swishswashswoosh · 05/08/2020 10:33

@PileofToss

Female birds (don't know name) lay eggs , pee and poo through the same hole (called something and I can't remember that either)

It’s called a vent!

It's actually called a Cloaca. 3 years of developmental biology not wasted on me.
UnfinishedSymphon · 05/08/2020 10:37

@marchez

Cadbury Flakes dont melt

@BillywigSting

Dragons are the only mythical creatures that appear in every culture
That's because they aren't mythical.
BillywigSting · 05/08/2020 11:50

soupdragon well no obviously you are real and if you have ever met a saltwater crocodile you might be inclined to believe that sea dragons are very much a Real Thing.

Because a 25ft long roaring reptile with altogether too many Very Sharp teeth sounds a good deal like a dragon to me.

SoupDragon · 05/08/2020 12:19

😂😂

TheGirlWhoLived · 05/08/2020 13:57

@thefishthatcouldwish

In the Biff and Chip and Kipper books Biffs real name is Barbra and Chip is Christopher.
I thought Biff was called Elizabeth?
TheGirlWhoLived · 05/08/2020 13:59

And not that I am over invested in the Robinson family as a whole but I think that Chip is actually David and it’s Kipper that is called Christopher

Iamuhtredsonofuhtred · 05/08/2020 14:04

Figs are not fruit but flowers that bloom internally- they are also not vegan because wasps pollinate them and die inside them and are reabsorbed so they’re full of wasp carcass

cosmicpassages · 05/08/2020 14:16

@ChazsBrilliantAttitude

Peanuts grow underground and are not nuts but legumes

Pineapples grow on bushes not trees.

and US President Jimmy Carter was a peanut farmer I wish Donald Trump was

The crabby father in law on Everyone Loves Raymond was John Lennon's best man.

Liam Gallagher is called William.

Jellyfish don't have a brain.
...and yet some people still manage to make jellyfish look brainy.
cosmicpassages · 05/08/2020 14:35

Go West by the Village People had it's musical arrangement changed by the Pet Shop Boys to make it sound like the Russian national anthem.

WendyHoused · 05/08/2020 14:38

Brian Blessed's got a nickname for the Queen. He calls her Knuckles.

bettsbattenburg · 05/08/2020 14:53

@Shouldbedancingyeah

Cleopatra lived closer to the building of the first Pizza Hut than to the building of the pyramids
Now if you'd said Pizza Express I'd have asked if Cleopatra lived in Woking.

Other way round - John Lennon was Peter Boyle’s best man. As well as playing Raymond’s father in ELR, Peter Boyle was also the creature in Young Frankenstein - one of my favourite movies 😁

Oops! Thanks for the heads up!

Koalas will thrust exactly 42 times before ejaculation, every single time!
😂😂😂
LunaNorth · 05/08/2020 22:37

I love that koala fact.

I love it so much that I sent DH 42 consecutive koala emojis, followed by 💦 this morning, just so he could enjoy that ‘just shagged by a koala’ experience.

Then I remembered they’re all riddled with chlamydia Sad

Polkadotties · 05/08/2020 23:15

I love these facts.
The horse breed, the Suffolk punch, comes in only one colour ‘chesnut’ note there is no ‘t’ in the middle like the normal spelling of chestnut
