Hi everyone,

Sorry for a very boring AIBU but does anyone have any interesting facts they’d like to share? I need a good fact for a work meeting this morning - any ideas?

Thank you!

The western end of the Panama Canal opens into the Atlantic, while the eastern most end opens into the Pacific.

My brother sent me this the other day...
What about the moon landings and the various forays into space that haven't landed anywhere?

Beethoven was once arrested as a tramp.

So do drakes. They're the only birds to have a penis, it's so that they can mate in water. As to why other birds don't - DH was once doing some sort of ecology course where this subject arose, and he suggested it was because of the weight. Apparently this got some raised eyebrows from the others on the course who were all women.

The Ivy League colleges on the east coast of America were funded and built because of heroin.
Really?

Harvard founded 1636.

Heroin trademarked 1898.

I think people are misunderstanding the space one. Yes people have been in space before that but then there have been periods inbetween where there hasn't been anyone in space. That's saying that since that date there has always been at least one person in space at any one time. Not that I can vouch for it being correct!

Every single Thoroughbred horse that has ever lived can be traced back to one of just 3 Arabian stallions - the Darley Arabian, the Godolphin Arabian and the Byerley Turk.

Some cats are allergic to humans.

I love this thread!

I have no interesting facts, but my 6 year old just offered this: herbivore dinosaurs used to eat rocks to help crush up the plants in their stomachs.

Haiti and Lichtenstein discovered they had the same flag at the 1936 Olympics. Lichtenstein added a crown to theirs shortly after.

Sharks continue to grow and replace their teeth throughout their lives, and can get through up to 1000 of them.

I don’t know 🤷🏻‍♀️

Star fish don’t have a brain and they eat small shellfish such as crabs. They don’t eat with their mouths but grab it with their stomachs. (Heard this on Milkshake this morning)

What about all the manned space ships? It would be earlier surely.

Prior to the ISS there was no permanent residence (for lack of a better word) in space. So manned crews went up but then came back earth, meaning that at various points everyone was on earth. Since the ISS there's always been someone in space.

Speaking of space my fact is that
Stegosaurus lived on the other side of the galaxy from T-Rex. Or to put it another way between the last Stegosaurus and the frist T-Rex our solar system travelled around 5,585,000,000,000,000,000km.

When you say the word "poop," your mouth does the same motion your bumhole does, when pooping. When you say "explosive diarrhea", your mouth also makes the same motion as your bumhole...

Northern Britain is slowly rising after being covered by glaciers in the last Ice Age, which means southern Britain is slowly sinking. This is called isostatic rebound:

We read in our dinosaur book last night:

How many dinosaurs could fly?

Answer: NONE. The flying creatures alive in dinosaur times were pteradons not dinosaurs.

Also all carnivorous dinosaurs walked on two legs but not all dinosaurs on two legs were carnivorous. I view that as something JK Rowling would have carved on a rock c.100 million years ago.

@Scautish

Pirates wear eye patches not because they are injured but for when they raid a ship, they can go below deck where it’s all dark, swap the patch to the other eye and the newly uncovered eye can see as it’s already adjusted to the dark.
This is so cool I'm thinking if I can possibly incorporate an eye patch into my life somehow!

A slow worm is neither a worm or slow! They look like small snakes, but are intact a type of legless lizard as they can blink and regrow their tails if they break off. The UK actually has two other native lizard - the common lizard and the sand lizard.

You can work out the speed of light by using a standard microwave.

Btw - babies do have kneecaps. They're not visible on x-rays as they haven't calcified yet.
