To not go?

Supposed to be going to see family at the weekend. My sister has had a massive go at me via text saying when the family gets together I only speak to my mum and I don't help look after her child. I don't think either is true and I spend a lot of time chasing her child around. She's been really nasty. AIBU just not to go?

Forgot to add, it's her and a close family members important birthdays.

Surprised you didn’t tell her to fuck off, your not there for Her childcare.

leftovercoffeecake · 03/08/2020 15:15

YANBU

Just because your sister decided to have a child, that doesn’t suddenly make you a baby sitter. She’s being ridiculous.

That being said, it would be a shame to miss out just because of her nasty comment. Could you go and just try to ignore her and her attitude?

Fedupsister · 03/08/2020 15:18

These family weekends are always dominated by her anyway. I could go and ignore her but it would be pretty hard, it's not a big family gathering just 5 of us plus her kid.

OP posts:
sageandroses · 03/08/2020 15:18

Ask her how much she's going to pay you for your babysitting services

DomDoesWotHeWants · 03/08/2020 15:18

Well, you have the perfect reason not to now.

DomDoesWotHeWants · 03/08/2020 15:20

I mean not to look after the child ... Go and ignore your sister. Her child her . Point that out.

DomDoesWotHeWants · 03/08/2020 15:20

Her child her problem. Bloody phone.

Lockdownseperation · 03/08/2020 15:21

Why would you look after her child?

GinWithRosie · 03/08/2020 15:22

Why would you be expected to look after HER child?? I really don't understand this!! She is being very unreasonable, obviously! Just ignore her! Or tell her to go to fuck...whichever is your style OP 😂

BertieBassettsBits · 03/08/2020 15:22

Did you ever agree to look after her child?

Fedupsister · 03/08/2020 15:25

No, she only let's her husbands parents look after him on their own. Our family are not deemed competent enough. But we are all expected to help look after him when we have family occasions. And I do really try, I always offer to do things and chase round after him.

DDiva · 03/08/2020 15:27

Do you want to go ? Dont let her rant out you off.

Just go and ignore the message if he wants to bring it up in person she'll just sound ridiculous.......

KorkMum · 03/08/2020 15:27

Don't go. Your sisters an idiot. Have a day to yourself. She can chase around her own child.

BumbleBeee69 · 03/08/2020 15:41

Fook and Off ... spring to mind .... don't go OP 🌺

BertieBassettsBits · 03/08/2020 15:46

Tell her you are there as a guest not to provide child care
Be as blunt as she is

maddening · 03/08/2020 15:50

Don't get pushed out if you otherwise want to go, go, be polite to dsis and dc, but don't lift a finger with her dc.

Derekhello · 03/08/2020 15:52

She can look after her own child! Cheeky mare

Ugh fuck THAT. YANBU. I'd come down with food poisoning, but I'm a bit of an asshole that way and in many, many other ways Grin.
BubblesThaDragoon · 03/08/2020 15:55

Haha your sister is a cheeky fuck! Shouldn’t have had a child if she expects other people to look after them 🤣

Doesn't sound much fun for you OP. What do you ACTUALLY want to do? Break the pattern and do THAT!

But don't give anyone the heads up until it's too late so you don't get guilted by your nagging sister and anyone else she drags into this scenario/argument. 🌹

66redballons · 03/08/2020 16:02

Cancel last minute. Sickness and bum troubles.
She sounds like a right pain in the arse.

Fedupsister · 03/08/2020 16:39

I was looking forward to going, I am working 9 ten hour days in a row at the moment and the weekend will be my time off and I was looking forward to seeing my family but now I'd rather stay home on my own!!!

OP posts:
mbosnz · 03/08/2020 16:46

I'd not be going. I don't tend to want to waste my time on people who are rude and entitled, and this includes family as well.

She sounds a spoilt little brat, who should not be indulged and encouraged to think that her behaviour and attitude is acceptable.

I would however, send her a birthday gift. A copy of 'How to Win Friends and Influence People.'

Fedupsister · 03/08/2020 16:51

@mbosnz I might get her that book unless there's one called how not to be a tw*t!!!!!
