Found this on Reddit, it's too good not to share.

archive.org/details/@musicfan100 - searchable full catalogues

dev.argosbookofdreams.co.uk/ - less searchable but cool interface

Wow, it really takes you back to look at them!! Brings back so many memories!! (and, I am a bit shocked at how expensive things were 20+ years ago!).

Thank you!Smile

That was really interesting, thank you for posting. As a child in the early 90s one of my favourite activities was cutting the Argos catalogue to bits to make mood boards of my future house Blush

Gingerkittykat · 03/08/2020 01:58

I've just had a look through the 1987 catalogue and the kettle my grandma had was £24.99, the kiddy watch I had was £7.95 and the cheapest microwave was £99.99 with most of them costing a lot more. A basic portable TV started at £150!

I recently bought a decent kettle for £30 and a mid range microwave for £60. You can now get a 32 inch, Freeview ready smart TV for the same price!

BitOfFun · 03/08/2020 02:03

Amazing! I'll send it to my brother- he used to memorise the item numbers to list them in his letters to Father Christmas Grin.

Mrstwiddle · 03/08/2020 02:55

Oh wow, that’s a trip down memory’s lane, good find!

BadTattoosAndSmellLikeBooze · 03/08/2020 04:01

Oh wow. Just had a look at the 1988 one and found so many toys that I had.... Popples, Pound Puppies and Keypers. I can’t sleep so I’m going to go through some more. 🤣 Thanks for sharing. Smile

Seeleyboo · 03/08/2020 04:37

I used to cut out the pics of the bedrooms furniture etc and stick them on the sides of a box. This was Sindys house. We were too poor to buy real furniture

Longdistance · 03/08/2020 04:58

That’s just amazing 😊 thanks for the link.

I’ve spotted loads that I had, it’s like a trip through memory lane. I’d forgotten about RainbowBrite, Poochie, I’ve still got the mini Cabbage Patch Doll figures.

magicmallow · 03/08/2020 07:30

So many memories aren't there!!

Not sure if you’re all aware but they’ve just announced it’s not being printed anymore

YANBU and it's a lovely combination of personal nostalgia and wider social history. YY to the prices of things though!

labazsisgoingmad · 03/08/2020 08:00

I thought this was why this thread was here 😊

Twinkletwinklechocbar · 03/08/2020 08:08

Yes I've seen this it's just wonderful.

I could waste hours looking at these. Dh thinks I'm insane.

It always shocks me how expensive everything was.

alicequartz · 03/08/2020 08:47

I love looking through the Argos catalogue.

magicmallow · 03/08/2020 12:00

It's weird how many memories it triggers! The cost of electronics and appliances seems very expensive compared to today.

My favourite blog often has articles on 80s Argos and Index pages.

No more Book of Dreams!!! I know it's a massive waste of paper but it's one of the highlights of Christmas in this house ☹️

Soubriquet · 03/08/2020 13:34

Whilst it’s sad they aren’t doing these no more, it’s good for the environment that they aren’t

But wow what a trip down memory lane

Thecazelets · 03/08/2020 13:35

Those 1980s prices are quite shocking - shows how expensive things were before cheap production in China. Same for clothes I suppose - I can remember new socks and underwear being quite an event in the 70s.

Skigal86 · 03/08/2020 13:37

I typed a random page number in and it brought up the forever friends clock my godmother bought me one Christmas!

Grumpymum789 · 03/08/2020 13:40

Wow thanks for this! Just looking at the 1986 one, I actually remember some of the jewellery as my 10 year old self must have spent so much time staring at it in this catalogue!
