Spelling Name Incorrectly

A colleague keeps spelling my name incorrectly. Think Ann/Anne Sara/Sarah Hanna/Hannah. I've politely pointed it out to her and she's just emailed again with the incorrect spelling.

Do I just leave it or do I correct her? It's not the end of the world but I do find it rude and annoying.

Her name is Mary so I can't really do it back!

One of my best friends does this to my dh...he has a really simple 4 letter name and she spells it wrongly every time....it drives me insane....we talk over messenger where ive written his name....she reads the message and then replies with his name spelt wrong.

NearlyGranny · 31/07/2020 15:50

I was actually published under a misspelling of my name, which is one of those in OP's list. I lost track of how many times I corrected the publisher in the writing process, but there it was on the book cover with a redundant letter. It's just so careless and rude. 🤨

My Manager is dreadful for this. She currently has her out of office e-Mail on, advising people to contact a colleague with any urgent enquiries. Only she has spelt the colleague’s name wrong - and therefore her e-Mail address is also incorrect 🤦🏻‍♀️.

Dugsbollox · 31/07/2020 15:58

It's rude of her, I'd absolutely go down the "thanks Marie" route. It's what she deserves Grin

My mum and cousin have names like this, efenon things like FB, with the spelling RIGHT THERE people will add or remove letters.

A colleague once emailed my team leader to point out a typo I had made (in the working notes section that no customer would ever see) but in her rush to point out my error she spelled my name wrong - both first and surname. Team leader forwarded it to me with ”oooopps” Hmm

I replied all with ”irony at its best”.

@StCharlotte

I'm glad I wasn't the only one outraged at her response Grin

It doesn't bother me how people spell my abbreviation/nickname, (going with my Danielle example, I would get Danny, Dani, Dannie, Dany, etc.). Obviously there is the way I spell it, but as it isn't my legal name it doesn't really matter.

BrandyandBabycham · 31/07/2020 16:08

I have this with a friend ( English isn’t her first language but she’s fluent). She just will not spell DD’s name correctly! It’s been going on for years. I have tried capitals, everything I can think of. Drives me absolutely mad! She adds an extra letter so it’s really not difficult to remove that! Grr!

DominaShantotto · 31/07/2020 16:18

Mine's the less common spelling variant and is often spelt incorrectly. I've given up worrying about it now to be honest and just ignore it.

LynseyLou1982 · 31/07/2020 17:12

People ways spell my name wrong even if it's right there on my email signature when they're repkyingvto me. It's annoying but as there's 13 ways to spell it I can usually let it go. I loathe when people spell it Lindsay though, I hate it spelled that way.

Skyliner001 · 31/07/2020 17:16

Mari?

66redballons · 31/07/2020 17:20

I worked for someone who got this regularly and repeatedly. She ignored people and correspondence in the end, said it wasn’t addressed to her.

JammyHands · 31/07/2020 17:23

I get this. I usually ignore it, but I actually think it's INCREDIBLY rude. I'll point it out to a person once, after that I don't bother again. But I bloody judge them.

DGRossetti · 31/07/2020 17:38

Hopefully this person hasn't got "attention to detail" on their cv ....
