When did you last wash your hair?

I'm doing the no poo thing and my hair is incredibly soft right now.

I have long, thick hair which is often complimented but I got into terrible habits of overstyling.

Yesterday morning. I have to do mine every other day as it's very fine and looks greasy quickly. Will wash again tomorrow morning.

FiveShelties · 30/07/2020 11:55

This morning. What is no poo thing? Do you mean you are not washing it? When did you last wash your hair?

ShebaShimmyShake · 30/07/2020 11:55

I like no poo but I need to use styling products in my hair and co washing doesn't get rid of them. Not sure what the solution is. If I go without using products, it works really well, but I can't do that if I want my hair to look decent. Soft hair that isn't greasy or dry that feels lovely but looks a hot mess!

millerjane · 30/07/2020 11:56

For anyone with my hair type I really recommend the "no poo" method. But tbh it did take 2 months of horrendousness.

Are you saying you have not washed it for 2 months?

It usually means washing with conditioner, or co washing. You basically take a ton of conditioner and just massage it well into your scalp. It lifts out excess oil and dirt without stripping your hair. It really does work but styling and styling products can be a problem.
girlicorne · 30/07/2020 11:57

I wash mine every Monday, it’s long and thick and mega time consuming to wash and dry and I hate doing it. also it doesn’t get greasy. I do shower every day though!!

FiveShelties · 30/07/2020 11:58

@ShebaShimmyShake thank you. I thought it meant not washing at all.

cosmo30 · 30/07/2020 11:59

Every 4 days. It's fine so gets greasy quick but when I wash it it's too soft and flat! So dry shampoo is my life until the next wash. Gives it texture and volume

ShebaShimmyShake · 30/07/2020 11:59

Incidentally, I got the benefits of co washing as soon as I started doing it, didn't take anywhere near two months. But it was the height of lockdown so I wasn't using any styling products. Now trying to figure out how to make it work when I'm putting serums and mousse in every day.

millerjane · 30/07/2020 12:00

I haven't shampood with actual shampoo in 4 months (would never have attempted this without lockdown).

I wash with apple cider vinegar once a week. I use kerastase products to condition.

Hair is in very good condition. I normally get very dry ends but they're amazingly soft rigth now.

I do remember some years back when some people recommended that! I don't think that's a good idea. Co washing though...

Hairthrowaway · 30/07/2020 12:02

For the first time in my life I’m aiming for 1x per week. It’s really hard!

I had an awful cut/colour last week and my hair feels damaged so I’m trying to use the least amount of heat and lots of treatments etc.

Fatted · 30/07/2020 12:02

Every three days usually for me. I have curly hair and no shampoo is recommended for my hair, but it goes disgusting and greasy if I don't shampoo it. I also use a lot of product that doesn't help!

Honestly, giving up the straighteners has been the best thing for my hair. Although I love my hair straight Sad

millerjane · 30/07/2020 12:04

Giving up straightners has surprisingly not been difficult. My hair is much straighter now I don't shampoo!

Shampooed/ conditioned on Monday & it’s starting to separate today. My hair is very fine & can tend to be greasy.

whichteaareyou · 30/07/2020 12:06

Saturday- I wash mine once or twice a week

ShebaShimmyShake · 30/07/2020 12:07

OP, does the vinegar get rid of yesterday's styling products?

MsEllany · 30/07/2020 12:08

Monday evening. I know because it was the first hot shower I’d had in 2 weeks!

I’m going to wash it again now. My hair is so so so dry. It’s very curly so I need lots of product on it though.

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 30/07/2020 12:09

Every week. I use Funky Soap bar shampoo and conditioner. It's natural and no sulphates or silicones. So as good as co washing but it still feels clean.

moklty · 30/07/2020 12:12

I have never really understood the point in not using shampoo tbh. Shampoo isn't bad?

eatyourcake · 30/07/2020 12:13

Every 7-8 days. I've done no poo a while ago, lasted 2 months, it solved the dry scalp issues I had, my hair looked really really nice from the outside, no flyaways, shiny lovely curls. I have thin dry wavy hair type. But I couldn't stand the actual feeling of it, waxy roots, it felt so thick and horrible and was only getting worse. So I started washing it again, with natural products, it's been about 6 months since then, I wash very gently with only a little shampoo. I'd say the no poo improved my hair and I may do it again in the future for a re-set if I feel like I need it. Each to their own though, I can't imagine this working for someone with oily hair!

amusedbush · 30/07/2020 12:15

I wash my hair twice a week, or once if I have no Zoom meetings for a few days! I gave co-washing a good go, I really tried but even though it looked and smelled clean, it felt very "heavy" and didn't move/swish properly. I bought different Curly Girl approved conditioners, a rubber scalp scrubber, apple cider vinegar, I tried different rinses and masks... I gave up. I invested in Philip Kingsley Elasticizer, Redken shampoo/conditioner and some Moroccanoil, and I limit heat on my hair to once a week.

millerjane · 30/07/2020 12:15

Sheba - the only styling products I use are the SheaMoisture Coconut & Hibiscus Hold & Shine Moisture Mist and Kerastase Oil.

Brushing my hiar with a tangle teaser (very thoroughly) and washing with apple cider vinegar leaves my hairproduct free. But I stay away from heavy products and gels etc

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 30/07/2020 12:16

I wash mine every day - it’s a short sharp bob, and looks crap unless it’s washed and dried.
