I'm doing the no poo thing and my hair is incredibly soft right now.

I have long, thick hair which is often complimented but I got into terrible habits of overstyling.

I'm using the curly girl method but do use a low poo on occasion as I have some joint issues and can't always be arsed with the amount of massaging you need to do with a co-wash.

I find a cleansing conditioner (like the As I Am ones) easier than a regular conditioner.

I wash my hair 2-3 times a week and clarify once a month with a clarifying shampoo. I haven't tried an ACV rinse yet, how do you do yours @millerjane? To answer your question I washed my hair on Monday night and will wash it again tonight.

For curly hair the issues with regular shampoo and conditioner is the silicones - these coat your hair and reduce the amount of moisture your hair can absorb. To remove the silicones you need sulfates, these strip the hairs natural oils so you reach for the silicone conditioner and the cycle continues. Curly hair is thirsty hair and needs the right balance of moisture and protein to maximise curls and waves.

Every 3 to 4 days. Only product I use is an ordinary shampoo+conditioner. Thick hair, no problems with it except that I could do with a haircut.

thenightsky · 30/07/2020 13:14

Every third day. If I leave it any longer I go mad with the itchiness.

Jennygentle · 30/07/2020 13:22

This morning, with silicone-free conditioner only.
I have straight, fine hair and co-washing works very well for me. I do use sulphate- and silicone-free shampoo every 3 washes, and a ‘proper’ shampoo about once every 3 weeks.

goodwinter · 30/07/2020 13:23

About 3 days ago? I tend to wash my hair twice a week.

goodwinter · 30/07/2020 13:25

I do low poo (started curly girl method during lockdown) and then a clarifying wash with regular shampoo when I notice buildup.

SerenDippitty · 30/07/2020 13:27

This morning. I will wash it again next week. It's very thick and slightly dry and doesn't really look or feel its best until a couple of days after I've washed it, when the natural oils have come back.

Bubbletrouble43 · 30/07/2020 13:29

I only shampoo my hair once a week, it's prone to being thick and frizzy. I wet it and condition it daily. Has been so much better since I started doing this, my hairdresser recommended it.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 30/07/2020 13:29

Last weekend - I usually do it about once a week.
CoWash is better than just conditioner - I rarely have issues with not being clean of styling products, and only need a small amount - about a teaspoonful size I guess.

Dugsbollox · 30/07/2020 13:31

Monday. It probably could've done with it this morning, but I'm at home all day, and like to stretch out hair washing where possible. It's prone to oiliness, so in my head I'm doing it good by not washing immediately. It'll be done tomorrow morning.

HeyDuggeesCakeBadge · 30/07/2020 13:31

I've been doing the no poo thing for 3 months now and have got to once a week shampooing. My hair used to get very greasy very quickly. I use shampoo bars and conditioners!

Flowers009 · 30/07/2020 13:32

I'm doing this too, just conditioner wash it's excellent. I think I will use shampoo once every two weeks

BertieBotts · 30/07/2020 13:33

I tried to do the no poo thing but my hair felt absolutely horrendous. I was doing it with a clarifying wash in between using one of the approved shampoos (DS happened to have one as it was a baby shampoo). I couldn't get the baby shampoo to lather in my hair and it just didn't feel clean. I got frustrated and gave up.

Will stick to my shampoo bar that I like.

vanillandhoney · 30/07/2020 13:33

About an hour ago when I finished work. Mine gets washed everyday as I do a physical job and it's very fine and frizzy. It would be awful if I had to leave it longer!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 30/07/2020 13:34

I wash my hair every day - I have very fine, greasy hair, and if I don't wash it, the grease weighs it down and it looks atrocious.

When I was a child, even in my teens, my mum only let me wash my hair twice a week, and I absolutely hated it. I remember leaning my head back against a window, and leaving a greasy mark - and being appalled at how manky that was.

I think I would only try the no 'poo thing if I really couldn't wash my hair for some reason, for a number of days - I can't imagine doing it from choice.

Indecisivelurcher · 30/07/2020 13:36

I wash mine twice a week with a shampoo bar from little blue hen - no sulphates, no palm oil, no plastic, and don't need any conditioner either.

Ironfloor269 · 30/07/2020 13:36

If it's washing hair with shampoo, about a month ago. But I cowashed my hair yesterday. I cowash twice a week and wash with a sulphate free shampoo once a month.

Sheknowsaboutme · 30/07/2020 13:52

Every other day. I have to. If i dont it will start to tangle and matt. Its long and naturally curly. I put products on it to tame the curls.

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 30/07/2020 14:12

I've started with CG the last few weeks, it's been 5 days now since I used a CG approved shampoo (6 days the time before) which seems to set me back a bit so planning on avoiding it unless I get too much buildup now. My hair is quite damaged anyway, but the improvement is already there to be seen. I suspect the shampoo is going to last a very long time, and say that for my conditioner though!

GoldStripes · 30/07/2020 14:15

I wash mine every 6-7 days. I have 3a-3c curly hair, and it just doesn’t need more regular washing.

Like @CaffiSaliMali I use the As I Am co wash, followed by their leave-in conditioner and a curl holding gel.

My hair actually does look better since doing it this way, but after not shampooing for a few weeks I now really feel like my hair needs some shampoo! Like OP I’m struggling with the first few weeks of no shampoo.

Laaalaaaa · 30/07/2020 14:24

Yesterday, anything longer than every second day for me is disgusting. Would love to get away with a longer period between washing though.

EBearhug · 30/07/2020 14:27

Last night after swimming. I reckon if I am dunking it in chlorinated pool water quite often, then shampoo is the least of its problems. Admittedly last night was the first pool swim since March, but I have been in the sea in between.

ifeellikeanidiot · 30/07/2020 14:36

Apart from at hairdressers, I haven't used shampoo on the ends/lengths of my hair for about 5 years. I always shampoo my scalp though, otherwise I get itchy, flare greasy roots. I cant imagine shampooing the rest of my hair - quickest way to make it frizzy and trashed. I have thick, curly hair but dont do curly girl method as I csnt be bothered to read labels.

CasaLuna · 30/07/2020 19:32

Omg @Kinkybutkind I am exactly the same and thought it was just me! Shock I get horrendous red ‘boil-like’ (sorry, TMI) spots on my neck and chin and eventually narrowed it down to not washing my hair. I can go about 3/4 days and then feel them coming...

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 30/07/2020 19:56

I never wash my hair Blush
