Or just bitching about him in general...

So far iv seen a woman slagging him of because he will invest in bikes for obese people but her GP will not give her a tummy tuck.

People with eating disorders complain about calories on menus as it will stop them eating! Understandable but for people like me who BINGE eat and have to calorie count to not become obese would give freedom to!

And so much more... I feel like he can't do right from wrong!!

A friend was complaining last week because the free school meals she was getting for ds are boring 🤦🏻‍♀️

I just SMH... would love to see these people run the country!

Calories should be asked for, or easily looked up online I think. Having them printed on a menu encourages the idea of good and bad food, and takes away the enjoyment of eating what you fancy without feeling guilty. In my opinion anyways.

Freddiefox · 29/07/2020 21:03

I think people just like to moan. Not just about Boris but everything. People aren’t happy if they’re not moaning.

bbbbitxhy · 29/07/2020 21:05

@WendyImHome that is a very good idea, or maybe one of those box things you can scan to get the calories on an app?!

I hate calories on menus. If I've gone out for dinner it's because I want a treat, not because I want to diet.

FudgeBrownie2019 · 29/07/2020 21:08

If you want to find fault in someone, you will.

Similarly, if you want to think someone's faultless, you will.

The whole "I'd love to see these people run the country" is nonsense - no you wouldn't. You'd probably be surprised at how incredibly easy it would be to make compassionate, decent, honest decisions to ensure society was well-ordered, protected and maintained for those who aren't puppets with Cummings' hand up their backsides. How easy it would be to make cogent arguments in Parliament instead of blustering and bluffing and relying on other MPs jeers to cover your total inability to hold your own when challenged. To live a life of honesty, respect and kindness; to not cheat on your wife and children. Attributes I'd say come easily to most people I know (most of whom think Boris is an amoral turd).

This is just another "but Corbyn would have been worse", which I still hear people saying, like politics is now a choice of shit or shitter.

ButterflyRuns · 29/07/2020 21:10

People with eating disorders are raising perfectly valid concerns about calorie counting

amylou8 · 29/07/2020 21:11

At the risk of enforcing your point......he's not exactly doing a great job! It's contradiction after contradiction...get healthy....bikes bikes bikes.....no sweets in supermarket aisle....AND.....half price pizza for the whole of August!!! MASKS everyone...but only four months in, and especially important when you're picking up your 2000 calorie BigMac meal....because the nation's health is foremost. He's got an impossible job, I wouldn't want it...but could I do better...YEP wouldn't be difficult.

Too bloody right I’m complaining about this. My eating disorder nearly killed me and I fight every day to stop it taking over again. Calories are massively triggering for me and I suffer incredible panic whenever the information is in front of me in black and white. It’s exhausting and boring and incredibly limiting but I have to keep fighting the stupid ED voice. To have calories on every menu would mean I can’t go out for supper. Ever.

I do get the good intentions with the initiative though, and I would welcome them if they made provision for those of us who would be harmed by them. Maybe calorie free menus available upon request - surely that wouldn’t be too much to manage?

Eating disorders are incredibly difficult and expensive to treat properly and there isn’t funding to help most of us (treatment is targeted at the young and those dangerously underweight). I fear that this directive will result in the need for more treatment and more cost. It can be avoided if there is just a little lateral thought.

qwertyuiop098 · 29/07/2020 21:12

I tend to agree with most things said against Boris Johnson but those complaints are very frustrating! I understand the difficulty for those with eating disorders but with 63% of UK overweight or obese, this issue needs to take precedent. We could have an opt out system for a menu without calories.

Pumperthepumper · 29/07/2020 21:16

Boris Johnson is responsible for thousands of unnecessary deaths. His bold new target of pretending to tackle obesity is so he can deflect from the hideous way he’s handled the coronavirus crisis. He’s a liability - a coward and a liar.

KenDodd · 29/07/2020 21:17

BJ is quite possibly the worse PM we have ever had. He is a lazy, lying, racist and his complete incompetence over covid has cause caused thousands of people to die.

I can't knock him for trying to do something about the country's weight problem though. Finally, he seems to be trying to do some good.

MarshaBradyo · 29/07/2020 21:20

I like the idea of safer bike lanes a lot. Part of the issue in London is being knocked off.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/07/2020 21:20

It's not a 'difficulty' for those with eating disorders, it's a trigger for a health condition that can result in up to 20% of those untreated dying.

Not only will this be a trigger for those with existing EDs, it's going to take many other people down the path.

Twillow · 29/07/2020 21:20

People do like to moan. To be fair, though, Boris does give them quite a bit of ammunition.

lazylinguist · 29/07/2020 21:22

YABVU to think it's fine for you to judge Boris' obesity measures based on your eating issue (binge eating), but to call it 'bitching' when other people judge the measures based on their eating issue (e.g. anorexia). How hypocritical.

TinkersTailor · 29/07/2020 21:25

You wanting to see the amount of calories because of your binge eating is exactly the same as the former.

Because you can't control your eating, your happy for another group to suffer to the point of not eating.

Can't you see the irony in that statement?

TinkersTailor · 29/07/2020 21:28

Irony? That'll teach me to do two things a once.

Hypocrisy, I mean.

ilovesooty · 29/07/2020 21:28

He's an incompetent, lazy liar who is unfit for office. It's not "bitching" to say so.

OliviaPopeRules · 29/07/2020 21:29

I'm sick of reading people saying it's contradictory to help people to exercise while simulatenously have an offer to help the economy. It is not for the whole of August it is Mon-Wed in August so 12 days in total. Also people aren't obliged to use it every one of those 12 days but if everyone went once of twice it would be a massive boast to restaurants
RB68 · 29/07/2020 21:34

I just think food breakdown should be available separately. Often Calories are not the issue but the break down of the type of calories e.g. for diabetics carb calories and fat calories need to be separate but it should just be a separate info sheet. Obesity is the result of disordered eating and also kills. Perhaps partners or friends could just read you out the options??

Bluemoooon · 29/07/2020 21:36

So many countries having a resurgence of covid -I'm sure most electorates are whingeing about their leaders. FGS just give it a rest everyone, just tedious.

lydia7986 · 29/07/2020 21:40

I think calories on menus is a great idea.

If I’m choosing between two desserts, and I can see that one of them is 1000 calories while the other is 500-600, I’ll go for the lower calorie one.

I think menus with calories printed should be the default, but people for whom that is triggering should be able to ask for menus without calories.

Castiel07 · 29/07/2020 21:42

I really don't get how a bike and sweets not being at the check out is really going to help people that much (other then parents who get hounded by their children for sweets).
And what about calories on alcohol?
I'm unsure about on meals, most people wouldn't care about how many calories in a mean anyways, but for some like above would find it extremely difficult to control their eating disorders.
We do need to do something to help stop obesity but what Boris is doing is not going to work.
A lot of people who have weight issues need help from a dietitian,Counciling and a complete change in mindset.
12 weeks of cycling on its own is not going to help most people.
And yes Boris whats with the stopping of bogof deals but get McDonald's for half price.

jasjas1973 · 29/07/2020 21:47

When Corbyn wanted to give us all free broadband, we all scoffed at the very idea of of giving the feckless decent BB but now its suddenly perfect fine to give the Obese a bicycle and everyone and their dog a free service on their rusty hack in the garage (& no doubt will end up on ebay)
If you really are genuinely obese, riding a bike may well put you in AE or the morgue, maybe thats the idea? after all he has already killed 20k in care homes.

Newnamenewopenme · 29/07/2020 21:50

I like the idea of calories on menus, I’m working really hard to lose weight and to do that I am counting calories and comparing them to the amount I burn off. I went for a meal the other day and had no idea how many I had consumed, I would seek out a lighter dish currently and this will help.
