Or just bitching about him in general...

So far iv seen a woman slagging him of because he will invest in bikes for obese people but her GP will not give her a tummy tuck.

People with eating disorders complain about calories on menus as it will stop them eating! Understandable but for people like me who BINGE eat and have to calorie count to not become obese would give freedom to!

And so much more... I feel like he can't do right from wrong!!

A friend was complaining last week because the free school meals she was getting for ds are boring 🤦🏻‍♀️

I just SMH... would love to see these people run the country!

I wonder if there is actually any evidence to suggest it would work. Lots of chains have made their calories available online and e.g. wetherspoons already printed them on the menus. Has anyone looked at the data and seen whether that actually gets people to make healthier choices?

Also, it's a dumb initiative to launch right when they are also making it half price to eat in the most calorific food chains.

The whole thing seems like an easy deflection to me, and once again avoiding the roots of the problems this government has created with low hanging (and calorie) fruit fixes that won't do anything.

One of the biggest single causes of obesity in the western world is the loss of nutrition from our food caused by intensive agriculture and factory farming, but Boris wants to import our food from the USA, who invented and exported these horrific practices to the rest of the world.

@Japanesejazz people trying to recover from ED do eat out yes. It's an important part of recovery - learning to ignore the lack of information, lack of accountability and ability to count calories, enjoying social eating again.

My recovering anorexic friend eats a children's meal at restaurants but she comes. If she saw the calories she may not be able to make herself do even that.

CorianderLord · 30/07/2020 10:32

@Malbecblooms seeing an advert about cancer doesn't give you back the cancer though does it?

Calorie counts trigger a relapse - not just a bad memory.

talkingkrustydoll · 30/07/2020 10:56

That's what I was trying to say but not very well. Seeing the calories on a menu stopped my dd 15 from eating for a day and a half. She has been doing so well since being in hospital for a slow heart and signs of starvation. Things like that can really knock her for 6. I know she needs to learn to deal with it but it's so hard.

anon444877 · 30/07/2020 11:13

There are many things that can trigger relapses in eating disorders -social eating is one of the hardest aspects in any case as you’re not fully in control of the setting, what’s in the food, what the people with you think about what you’re eating etc.

The govt does have to make changes to deal with obesity, we are failing those children who will be suffering long term consequences from childhood obesity. I hear the multi buys on junk are stopping and hoping we get more fruit and veg offers.

It's more about the nudge effect, making small changes that lead to bigger lifestyle changes.

Which won’t work unless they’re prepared to put some serious money behind it. Which they’re not.

On a slightly different note, I wonder if adding calories to a menu might make some establishments try harder to offer more nutritious, less calorific, but still tasty dishes. 🤔

Emeraldshamrock · 30/07/2020 14:57

It is a bad idea calories on a menu for many of the reasons on this thread.
Most people have information at their finger tips they don't need it in their face.

Most people have information at their finger tips they don't need it in their face.

Some people do to be honest. But in a way that might harm others it's not neccessarily the best tool.

Bluemoooon · 30/07/2020 15:01

Unfortunately, obesity is political - I’m embarrassed you don’t know that. People are not overweight because they live a jolly life eating exactly what they fancy all the time, which unfortunately happens to be high-calorie junk. There’s an entire spectrum of reasons - time, money, trauma, genetics, ability, equipment and so on.

Well I'm overweight because I live a jolly life eating exactly what I fancy all the time. Unfortunately that is quite often a biscuit or chocolate. And I need to lose a stone. Most of the food is good for me but there is so much nice sweet stuff around that I succumb like most of teh people I know.

HeIenaDove · 30/07/2020 15:30

Someone else posted in my tenant group this morning. Yet another letter recieved reminding them that bikes prams disability aids , plants etc must not be stored in the communal hallways.
Very small flats,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,the hallways in the actual flats themselves are so small you cant walk in with a shopping bag in each hand. So unable to store them inside flats..........there just isnt room.

MarshaBradyo · 30/07/2020 15:31

It’s be great to have more lockable bike racks in residential areas, particularly for flats.

MarshaBradyo · 30/07/2020 15:32

Lydia, would you really not have some kind of idea what dessert is likely to be 1000 calories vs one that is 500?

fallfallfall · 30/07/2020 15:41

Not dessert but the saag vs the aloo gobhi, or the Kashmiri naan vs the cheese and garlic and maybe I can have the whole order vs sharing and having half.

Lose that stone then. Why haven’t you already? Probably because there’s a bit more to it than ‘fancied a biscuit’.
Lifeisgenerallyfun · 30/07/2020 18:57

I actually think Boris is good. He’s different but appreciate he’s very marmite.

KenDodd · 31/07/2020 17:51

@Lifeisgenerallyfun

What good things do you think he's done for the country?
