Or just bitching about him in general...

So far iv seen a woman slagging him of because he will invest in bikes for obese people but her GP will not give her a tummy tuck.

People with eating disorders complain about calories on menus as it will stop them eating! Understandable but for people like me who BINGE eat and have to calorie count to not become obese would give freedom to!

And so much more... I feel like he can't do right from wrong!!

A friend was complaining last week because the free school meals she was getting for ds are boring 🤦🏻‍♀️

I just SMH... would love to see these people run the country!

Yes surely most people with eating disorders know more about calories than anyone!!

I think I pretty much know the foods to eat that are healthy in a restaurant. However calories counts that are available on the website of pizza express for example are helpful as some of the salads are ridiculously high in calories if you have the dressing.

Some calorie free versions of menus available on request seems like a good idea - as has been said.

zoemum2006 · 29/07/2020 23:28

Don't call him Boris; he isn't your mate.

This is all just pure distraction from the government's incompetence.

Many other countries have managed this difficult time with more success and previous PM's would have done better.

SusieOwl4 · 29/07/2020 23:41

I am surprised and interested. So if you are calorie obsessed could you go out for a meal and not have a rough idea of what the calories are or even google it ?

Not quite understanding the argument ? You are able to totally relax if nothing on the menu about calories ?

For other customers I would think sometimes yes it would be very helpful to make the right choices but there will be sometimes you think blow it tonight I don’t care . And go for whatever you want.

Ot every meal out is the same.

SusieOwl4 · 29/07/2020 23:44

@zoemum2006

And we are not your mates either .so don’t tell us what to do .

We all have our own opinions about Boris . And we are ALL entitled to them .

Does not make them right or wrong .

HeIenaDove · 29/07/2020 23:46

Where does he think ppl in small flats are going to store a bike? Given that storing ANYTHING in communal hallways has been banned since Grenfell!!

PickAChew · 29/07/2020 23:46

To be fair, he's a grade A pillock.

Isolatedizzy · 29/07/2020 23:46

The telling everyone who can WFH to go back to work is the one killing me!
Lots of employers saying people are more productive, employees having more time to spend with their families, exercising more, cooking from scratch, feeling less stressed, fewer cars on the road, less carbon emissions but we've all got to go back to work because the coffee & sandwich jobs might go out of business.
At the same time as we're supposed to be following his 12 week WeightLoss plan we've also got to be buying a gingerbread latte as a baguette 🤨

zoemum2006 · 29/07/2020 23:49

@SusieOwl4

You're entitled to your opinion and I'm entitled to think you are being manipulated.

Calling him Boris makes him seem cute and cuddly when he is anything but.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 30/07/2020 00:04

It's all been a massive fuck up by people who live very different lives to the majority of the people affected by their decisions.
Calories on a menu does nothing to address emotional eating or othered disordered eating that wouldn't be better addressed by psychological help. A calorie listing might help me choose between 2 options but I rarely look at desert menus because I'm full and I don't want to eat any more. DH has a pudding stomach.
It's a headline grabbing cheap, short term measure that won't address the actual cause.
Spending a billion on a hundred ineffectual measures is not as good as spending it on one effective measure but it does get more election winning headlines.

gutentag1 · 30/07/2020 00:26

Did you watch Supersize Me, where the large McDonalds granola turned out to be 1000 calories?

Restaurants sneak sugar into things to make it tasty, you may think you're eating something healthy when actually you're really not.

Showing calories would hold them accountable IMO.

fallfallfall · 30/07/2020 00:44

fast food chains in canada have the calories listed on the menu, just saying other places do it. i'd love for my fave italian and indian to list the calories it would help me with my choices for sure (maybe even my food choices the next day and my exercise choices).
that aside my biggest problem with the bike idea is that morbidly obese people would need specialty bike frames. even my dh who is not crazy heavy has needed to pay attention to bike frames and strength (no cheap Chinese recycled metal).

squeekums · 30/07/2020 00:50

@bridgetreilly

I hate calories on menus. If I've gone out for dinner it's because I want a treat, not because I want to diet.
Same here, dont read it, useless info for me But i dont read any food labels either. I dont buy my food based on numbers, i buy on taste, then price but taste first and foremost

They do show them though. The chains. It would be pretty pricey for small independent
squeekums · 30/07/2020 01:27

Showing calories would hold them accountable IMO.

Would it? It still relies on people choosing to eat based in health and not taste though
Taste will always win for most
If dessert is say a rich choc self saucing pudding v a fruit salad and light custard, i will never choose the fruit salad

Emeraldshamrock · 30/07/2020 01:53

They should give people the option of menu displaying without and without calories, or advise calorie available on request. It is unfair if they are remove 3 for 2 offers on treats too.

uniglowooljumper · 30/07/2020 02:01

@Mermaido

I think they’re looking at all the wrong reasons for why people become obese. To fix something you need to go to it’s roots and see what’s actually causing it, not just stick a bandaid over it. Maybe preventing wealth inequality and making sure people don’t live in poverty in the first place would be a start? Also better mental health services for people who need help developing a healthy relationship with food. And controversial but I think the main reason why we are obese is because we are so stressed, if we worked fewer hours we would have a much more balanced lifestyle and more time for doing things we enjoy (which usually involves spending money so would also benefit the economy).
Much easier and cheaper to scapegoat larger people and victim-blame and shame. Or blame restaurants. Just anyone but the real causes of the problems, which is usually poverty.
Domino20 · 30/07/2020 02:16

Boris is shite. If you can't see the contradiction in one government policy giving discounts at restaurants while another is 'supposed' to benefit your health, then you need to exercise some critical thinking skills.

Japanesejazz · 30/07/2020 02:23

Do people with eating disorders eat out a lot then?
Asking for a friend who suffers with one
Chucks grenade and ducks

Pixxie7 · 30/07/2020 02:35

So many people feel let down by the government. To my mind calories on a menu is going to make limited difference to the problem. Most people are aware which foods are high in calories.
Cycling is good but will potentially lead to more RTAs and again is more focused on the better off.
However In my opinion he has done nothing to address the real issue of the relationship between poverty and obesity. He needs to look at ways of making healthy food more affordable. Possibly council run gyms, encouraging walking which would be accessible to most people.

Pixxie7 · 30/07/2020 02:49

MrsGoggings85@ please don’t insult golden retrievers, I am sure they could do a much better job 😂

MrsKypp · 30/07/2020 02:51

I think there should be two versions of the menu: one with the calorie content and the other without.

However, I don't really believe the calorie content - how did they test each dish? Did they or are they guessing? Who checked it?

HagridsBackTeeth · 30/07/2020 04:12

When I was in the USA all the menus had calories on. It's hardly brought down their obesity rate.
I don't care either way, but obviously for some people it's going to be a trigger, so I think "plain" menus should be available too.

rawlikesushi · 30/07/2020 04:42

I think calories on menus is a great idea. Giving people information is always a great idea. It will help people to make healthier choices and encourage restaurants to develop lower calorie options. I don't understand anyone saying 'I'd rather not know' at all.

Pixxie7 · 30/07/2020 04:45

Because most people go out to a restaurant as a treat, to enjoy themselves and forget about the diet.

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 30/07/2020 04:45

I’d like the bike voucher because being heavier I need more “robust” tyres for my bike. Frames are solid - but the average tyre whacked on a woman’s bike doesn’t bear weight.

Last time I was in the states I was astounded at how easy it was to get low-carb TASTY meals as opposed to deep-fried platters - at the same price point. All calories not being equal and all.

It’s 4:45am and I’m awake. I could go for a little jog/red-faced pant with my dog and no eyes on me.

‘Course I haven’t got a wife/staff at home to look after the kids and no protection officers to keep me safe.

Thems the breaks.
