In finding “I’m crazy!” people boring & annoying

The type of person who is all loud and “life & soul of the party” often saying “I’m so crazy... I’m mad, me!” talking about themselves all the time and oblivious to others. I’ve recently encountered such a person, who’ll be hard to avoid. Any coping strategies? Or am I just a dull, misery guts?

I once (briefly) dated an “I’m mad, me” guy. On one of our dates, we were walking on the beach. I commented that as the tide was very far out, we’d likely be able to pick periwinkles, and I suggested going back to the car for a bag. He replied with “great idea, I’ll be able to tell everyone, that’s the sort of mad thing I do”. Ehh, really? Picking periwinkles is mad?? Since when?

I hope you told him you would go back for the bag, got into your car and drove off 😂😂

Argh yes, people who introduce themselves with 'I'm X, I'm a little bit mental but don't worry you'll soon get used to me', go instantly on my shit list.

Also hate 'only I could XYZ' or 'XYZ could only happen to me' or 'trust me to XYZ'.

I think it's got worse with social media and grown adults keraaazy tik tok dances in public etc

@NowYouListenToMeFella

God they really are tiresome. One friend I have is non stop going on about how crazy they are. Jesus wept I think she is the most boring fucker alive who hasn't done one crazy thing ever.
I have one too, who now as an equally dull dh and baby. Not that there's anything wrong with the baby, he's adorable but doesn't really do much. At 1 he still just sits in a bouncer happily but she tells these stories about him being 'crazy' that either never happened or are pointless- 'oh my gosh baby is so crazy! He picked up a toy and put it in his mouth!!! Ahahahahahah'

They're a 'mad' family 🙄

@Sittinonthefloor

🤣 I’m a teacher!
There is nothing worse than arriving back to school after a holiday for an inset day and to have a ‘don’t mind me, I’m crazy’ type leading the day. (Particularly as they usually haven’t had to deal with an actual class of children in a decade)
Margerine78 · 30/07/2020 17:54

The 'I'm mad me' types are always so dull. It's the same as men who make a big point of saying they're 'really honest', I instantly think only a man who desperately needs me to believe that as it won't be obvious from his actions needs to stress this verbally!

Craiglang · 30/07/2020 18:03

I have a work colleague like this. Of the rainbow dungarees and novelty earrings. She got married a few years ago and had a pirate themed wedding which mostly consisted of Poundland Halloween decorations - plastic skull glasses, eye patches, etc and her DH wearing a red bandana on his head. In July. It was truly bizarre. But hahahah, that's her! Keeeerrrraaazzeee! Hmm

LimeTwist · 30/07/2020 18:08

I have a friend & every day out/night out she goes to is posted on Facebook usually saying ‘what a mental time!’ ‘We’re so crazy!’ Nope...you’re not. Really not. It’s embarrassing

winniestone37 · 30/07/2020 18:09

I think I agree with this one! Anyone who labels themselves as anything seems in some repack desperate/ inauthentic. Hey maybe you are a bit zany, eccentric and funny but surely we’ll find that out. The need to explain who you are always seems incredibly childish and yes often these people are a tad narcissistic and insecure.

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 30/07/2020 18:14

I cannot stand people like this. Its like a constant performance to be zany and crazy all the time. Its fake and false and cringeworthy.

Mummyyyyyyyyyy · 30/07/2020 18:22

Usually if someone has to keep telling everyone how ‘crazy’ & ‘fun’ they are then they are just trying to convince themselves & are really rather sad people.

Fedup21 · 30/07/2020 18:29

I knew a few people like this at university. I didn’t spend any time with them and would actively avoid them. They generally had issues maintaining friendships and seemed to have significant mental health difficulties.

DagenhamRoundhouse · 30/07/2020 18:32

Reminds me of that character in The Fast Show, Colin played by Charlie Higson. He was the office joker and wore bow ties and a curly wig.

DagenhamRoundhouse · 30/07/2020 18:33

Annabel: old Chinese proverb - "An empty vessel makes the loudest noise" !

Good grief. Everyone is entitled to their own personality and those who think them ‘too much’ - just stay out of their way! I can’t believe this is a whole thread dedicated to rubbishing a personality type. How boring if we were all the same.

IHeartKingThistle · 30/07/2020 18:51

I'm a secondary teacher. I am guilty of wearing all offending items listed on this thread, because dressing like that makes me happy. And I'm fun. I think. I'm an extrovert.

But I would be MORTIFIED if anyone who knows me read this thread and was like 'oh yeah, Thistle's like that, so annoying'. MORTIFIED.

Because I don't describe myself as crazy and I take my job really seriously and I care about other people and I work really hard. Surely I can be fun and credible at the same time? Now I'm wondering if I spend my life pissing people off with my sparkly shoes...

THIS! So true.
Lifeisgenerallyfun · 30/07/2020 19:01

This exact person just appeared on the news, running shed school from his shed )which has been short listed for shed of the year!)

RiverCrossing · 30/07/2020 19:10

These sorts of people make me crack out my best and extreme planned ignoring - I have a friend who likes to paint herself as the quirky crazy one and will do daft things whilst looking around the room to catch people’s eye and see who is watching her so she can be all ‘yeah I’m so mad.’ I literally will look hard in the other direction!

Lordamighty · 30/07/2020 19:10

I have a friend like this, I’m mad me, keerrraaazy, a night in is a night wasted. Don’t be boring is her catchphrase, the reality is it’s a cloaking device for her raging alcoholism.
